The whole point of the UFC was to see which discipline is most realistic and/or effective in the real world. And in the real world, most fights end up on the ground. Not all, but most. Let's say 60%. If you want to see two guys stand and bang and never go to the ground, just stick to boxing.
I get it tho. When I got in a fight, I didn't want to go to the ground, because that's not my skill set. My goal was to hit and not get hit. Not many people want to end up on their back in a gravel parking lot, and I'm one of them

Merab doesn't want to fight umar for 2 reasons, 1 - merab had a long road to the title, 2- he is genuinely terrified of umar and he knows he will lose the title immediately , cause if he wasn't scared he would have also complained in interviews back than when o'malley got an even shorter road and gifted a title shot vs aljo, but merab didn't because he thought it would be an easy money fight against o'malley.

They are professionals. This is the highest level, a championship bout, he will yell at them and let them fight. That's what's supposed to happen at that level. This isnt Dana white contender series they aren't learning how to operate in the octagon. They have 3 judges, if the judges want to take points away or score on things that happen in the ring that's their job.

I am glad because Sean has such a boring personality and was really being promoted as a superstar when he wasn't. Merab is also a really nice guy and hilarious.

I respect Umar and all Dagestanis but they are definitely getting favors by skipping the line. But that's how the game goes. Steve Erceg skipped the line and that's how the game goes. Umar is not a better grappler than Merab because he doesn't come from a combat-sambo background. He might be better on the BJJ aspect but he couldn't do anything with Sandhagen on the ground & he'll definitely won't bother Merab who has improved his BJJ by training with Aljo. He's better elsewhere but I don't think he has the grappling cardio of Merab. Not even Islam can grapple for 5 rounds. Merab ought to be favored in that match up and i'm certain he'll win it.
Umar is international Master of Sports in Combat Sambo and won the world championships in 2015 at 62kg. Merab is no where close to that level in combat sambo. And also. Umar trains with Patchy mix and Mikey Musemeci who have 100x the Jiu Jitsu of Aljamain Sterling. And you comparing Sandhagen's Ryan Hall type of granby roll defense style to Merab who is clueless off his back is pretty naive.
