It's bittersweet to have the journey come to an end. You endured much in the last days of your Camino. But you kept great spirits, more perhaps than most would in similar situation. It all adds to the memories that you will carry with you. I hope you take another opportunity to walk another Camino during a warmer time of the year, and with a few more people to add to the social atmosphere. I'll keep an eye out for it. 😊It was great to see you stop at Albergue O Candil! My friends and I stayed there in Melide and really enjoyed it, too. Thank you for sharing your Camino with us, Olive.

heya Olivia , first of all: happy belated b'day! 🎂(by now of course long gone)...
...this sequence somehow looked a bit sad: long walks, rain and hail, and the landscapes got a bit more boring... and the night starts now so early... the towns... I did'nt enjoy Melide etc much myself... but - as you also said: a very crucial and uplifting part is, whom you meet, and the exchanges, which sometimes feel quite deep and authentic...
A woman, that I only met like 2 days before Santiago, asked me if I think I'm gonna cry, when I arrive, which I couldn't really answer then... what actually happened, I'll share with your Santiago-arrival clip!! Just to say: we didn't walk together, but exchanged emails, in case we miss out to see each other in the city...
...something to take away from the 'camino culture' is, as you also embarked on, a different way of meeting new people, maybe asking more relevant and sincere questions and so create more connection... in a way my life did become my 'camino' after my 2 Spanish ones... I'm walking moment-to-moment, day-to-day, year-to-year through what we call 'life', and a lot of unexpected things happen here as well, despite of my tendency to take charge of my steps and the outcomes...
What I will always share with anyone, who asks me about the camino (without having done it) is that they can expect to 'grow'... that they will feel somehow different after doing it. Its not the same for everyone, yet it has an effect on us... it has enriched our life experience; brought new nuances to it, and there's usually a huge amount of gratitude in us...

That final stretch of the walk indeed felt pretty sad, especially with the changing season, shorter days and fewer people on the Camino. I can’t wait to hear the rest of your story! 😊
I know what you mean about life becoming your Camino. I also found myself reflecting on the parallels between the journey on the trail and the journey of life. It’s like gaining retrospective clarity, realising the beauty in every moment-even those we might not have appreciated at the time. While I was caught up in my daily life and thoughts during my walk, in hindsight, I came to appreciate the beauty of the journey. The Camino definitely brings a heightened awareness to that.
I completely agree that the Camino has a growing effect on anyone! 🌱🚶♀
PS. now I'm really curious about how you did experience walking into Santiago, and reaching the Plaza del Obradoiro... will there be tears? I have to ask you the same question, that I got! 🥲...interesting stuff: tears - they can express so many different things: sadness, pain, exhaustion, being touched, relief, joy (tears of laughter), or just feeling overall very emotional 🌈 💦 😌 @@oliviaelenat 🤗
@@jornspiritI completely understand your curiosity! 😁 Walking into Santiago and reaching the Plaza del Obradoiro was indeed an emotional experience, but surprisingly, it was less emotional than I anticipated. I will try to describe it in my last video and, hopefully, I can find the right words! 😊
oh, thats so sweet of you, Olivia 🫒, giving me a 'sneak pre-view' on your arrival! I have no expectations, surely, and of course haven't yet revealed, what actually happened with me when I entered that sacred ground, but I give you a little snippet now too: music, playing in the background, where I settled for my first coffee, close to the cathedral, by the Galician group Milladoiro: 'Portico' - I hold it precious to this very day... it always transports me back to the squares and alleys of that old town centre... th-cam.com/video/k7r5ztyDxVg/w-d-xo.html

PS. as your name is in the open, it also feels fair to give you mine: Jörn (or 'Joern' in the English version)- its Scandinavian, but I was born and grew up in the South of Germany; now living in Scotland since many a year... and now for SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA (its name - St. James of the fields of stars - goes back apparently to oral lore, stating that rural farmers of the area, before the city was built, had a nightly vision of St. James high up in the air, after his death) @@oliviaelenat

Congratulations on a truly wonderful and well made story of your Camino. I have been looking at many but have rarely stayed engaged. Lack of balance poor presentation etc were the hallmarks of many but not so yours. So thank you. In a last minute decision We did the Sarria SDC last May with an Aussie friend who we had only seen once since we left Australia for Scotland 20 years ago. It was great to spend hours and hours chatting and catching up with her and her life and the days went by quickly. I have to say I found the 115 k aside from the people a little boring visually and almost too busy. What you did so well was show how mentally challenging it is as well as the real beauty especially from Leon to Sarria and it was much appreciated and inspiring. Muchos Gracias Buen Camino
