I don't think my generation realizes how recent this all was. She's 62, for God's sake. That's younger than most the rock n rollers, younger than most the Vietnam vets...younger than most of our grandparents. Never again (did I say something like this before? i might've) will I say that everyone should just get over it, knowing the people scarred by these events ARE STILL ALIVE.
Hi my name is Bre'Anson and I played you in the 2nd grade I'm in the 3rd now I like your movie and I pray people will change and pray that black and white come together.
I cant belive when ever you were 6 that happened we are learnining about you at school we read the story about what happened my teacher said that you are 63 years old and you are almost 64 it was sad and I sall the movie I love you I hope you feel better now.
For her to continue to make a difference, this time, knowingly, speaks volumes of her character. A teacher, like my Mom, Ruth E. Moneke, who cared about young people deeply.
I would love to bring all those yelling parents together today and ask them if they're proud of what they did back then. I find it difficult to understand racism - I honestly don't get it. I think I even love foreigners than my own race because every other race has an history, a story, an experience I can learn from. I believe racism back then is like a contagious disease spread within the family and among friends. I am from Africa, but I've noticed that when I often meet very friendly white people, more often than not they're well traveled. Hence racism is a function of ignorance!
Young interviewer, with great interview questions... Ms. Ruby Bridges is living legend! Your story is powerful and yes, more work needs to be done... no room for racism!
What a badge of honor to know that YOU are the person that was the spearhead that busted up the dam of racism and oppression, and that YOU did it as a small child. Her family lived a nightmare of fear, so that the next generation of kids could fully integrate without requiring the help of the National Guard. Amen.
Racism is brain-dead stupid, and I don't spend 5 minutes around people that I don't enjoy, and who don't enjoy me. Divine Mother's creation is so beautiful, and I'm going to have a ball relaxing, laughing, dancing, eating, and having fun in it.
One of the things I like about her among other things is, she's said discrimination goes both ways now a days. I've found that to be true having gone to a school that was prodominently black. That kind of aditude has no place in anyone's heart. Thanks for posting this.
I did not allow my children to go to school because of racism. When I was in school all books favored Euro-American culture, and ignored the culture of Native and African people in the U.S. And this is as much racism as people screaming and spitting at you, so I taught mine at home so that they would feel empowered, loved, and know their own culture first, and to save them the heartbreak of being ignored.
The other children's curiousity, and their wanting to be friends with Ruby show right there, that children aren't born with any type of hatredness. They just want to be friends, They learn all that hatred from their elders hating and cursing right next to them, and telling their children, 'They're not good. Don't go with them.' If the children are wise, they won't go down that path. It just leads to a bitter life.
