This American Classic started out in Kelowna British Columbia Canada 🇨🇦. It's now a Freightliner with a "W" on it. Nice try. From someone who had friends and family in the Kelowna plant and supplied parts for the Kelowna plant.
My favorite type is Mack trucks, I used to work for APC in Jordan for 3 years on a project there, they used to have a huge fleet of Mack’s trucks hauling 40 tons each of potassium chloride to an export facilities at Aqaba port, Red Sea to customers all over the World.
Western Star Trucks are my new favorite. My classic interest prefers Peter-built, because, well they are the Harley-Davidson in the tractor trailer Truck World. However, knowing about Western Star Trucks, if I had to buy a fleet, Western Star would be my top choice.
great video, really enjoyed the insights into how these massive trucks are built! but honestly, i think the design of some of these trucks could be more modern. i get that the classic look has its charm, but wouldn't it be cool to see a more futuristic style incorporated into them?
Detroit muscle, I am a retired truck driver who drove a truck with a Detroit engine and I speak for myself and I loved it. It would put out 475 hp with the 10 speed manual transmission and 4:11 axles and the truck was a pulling machine.
I remember the old Detroit engines back in the 80s early 90s leaked oil they couldn’t hide just follow the oil but the newer ones are good engines I drove one for a while it had good power and good on fuel.
Been a truck mechanic since 1978 electronics has made things some what easier caused a lot of problems in other way I prefer the older stuff I can fix where ever I am
I don’t have a favourite actually I like them all..i even worked in the automotive Industry light and heavy duty for many years I enjoyed it…I worked for a Volvo truck company I wasn’t a mechanic I worked in a warehouse this was a parts supplier
Western Star Trucks are nice years ago when they first went to where I use to work the problem i never liked making right turns was sucked the turning radius was not as good as making lefts was great. Of all the trucks I love a Peter built trucks for years to me was the rolls-Royce of trucks. I love the fact today before you order a truck first thing they need to know is what are you hauling and then they go into detail on what will work best for you in the real world they really make a truck best for your use.
If you take a look at the top line from Mercedes Benz Scania, Volvo, MAN and DAF you will see we in Europe have better line of trucks and all best cabs have flat floor and are well equipped for long haul travel, plus the engine are up too 780hp and it is a company in Netherlands that make over the trucks too long noses too, and my favorite is mercedes actors whit giggaline option
Hi freightliner corporation owner bydaway now freightliner truks ki bajaye 100000000 these small logistics truks for whole world nations miltries establishment forces engineering cors. Same 7500000 billions dollars deal. Ok freightliner corporation owner babez 〽️
I've driven most trucks out there and while Kenworth is my favorite, I did love the Western Star I drove. It was quite comfortable and didn't beat up my back at the end of the day. So I'd say WS is my second favorite, and I'd gladly drive one again.
Western star 49x is my favorite truck i have one as a super dump it's very dependable it has a 13spd with a Cummins X15 4axel with a Xtra pusher axel on it it's a beast of a truck thank you Western star for building my truck ill never sell it
I had a Detroit 466 straight six in my International dump truck. Efficient, reliable, workhorse! Check out Bus Grease Monkey, Detroit 2 strokes still running! Edit for spelling.
I’ve driven Kenworth, Peterbilt and International. I love my 589 Peterbilt but nothing compares to the kenworth T680. The Peterbilt 379 is beautiful and the long hood is great. Kenworth W900 is also one of my favorites too but not a smooth ride. It’s built for work, not for comfort
Back in 1980s & 90s, western stars were built in kelowna. We owned 3. You could call kelowna plant and they would overnite you ANY PART anywhere in the USA. 2 of our 4964 western stars trucks ran over 1.5 million miles when we sold them. Freightliner buying WesternStar was a sad day. That was like mtd throw away law mowers buy international cub cadet. They turned a fine piece of equipment into junk. The very first thing I noticed was all the grease fittings started disappearing.
Hey, love your video, Kenworth is my favorite truck, but I want you to email me and tell what happen to Caterpillar Engines if and why they stop making them, please do respond ,keep up the good work. 👍
You forgot to say that most freight shackers are made in Mexico, with cheap labor and no environmental liability. Western star is now just a blown up freightshacker.
You keep saying the frames are welded. There are no welds on heavy truck frames. They are bolted and riveted so the frame can flex under heavy load use.
I have Owned nothing but Western Star Trucks. My first was a 1999 4764 EX. 5 Trucks later I own a 2021 5700XE. This truck is 100% Detroit. Engine, Front Axle, Transmission and Rears. I’m keeping my 5700XE because I’m not a fan of the new 5700X. Great Warranty and Very Solid Trucks!
I like Mack but main issue is HP and Torque with a 13-16 speed tranny. Logging needs pulling power over rugged terrain with huge loads measured in cubic yards/meters not pounds especially for companies that never use public roads.
I have driven all the major brands, all day cabs. The brand name basically only includes the body, or cab, and frame. All the rest are components built by other companies. Peterbilt is very streamlined and a nice truck, but the cab is small. One of my coworkers was very tall and another was very large, but fit, but barely. Freightliner seems to be made cheap; the dash soon develops cracks and falls apart. Volvo is a big roomy cab, but it's odd to have to move my left knee over to crank the window in such a roomy cab. Mack's cab and dash seem to be "boxy", it's hard to describe. Western Star, Kenworth, and International are similar with no qualms, other than International's windshields were flat, which made it reflective to other drivers. That brand I drove many years ago, and they may have changed it since. I personally do like the toggle switches over rocker switches. The Detroit 60 series and Cat C12 were the best engines with best fuel economy and torque. Most had Eaton Fuller transmissions and were 9 speed, 10 speed, 13 speed, and 18 speed, all performed very good.
These trucks use to be built in my home town and when they left the whole town has pretty much shut down. Thanks Freightliner for your corporate greed.
Wau, thanks a lot for your correction. You are right - "Approximately 300 thousand Freightliner models have been made in Mexico's production plants throughout history, including: Freightliner M2. Freightliner Columbia"
I’ve always owned Freightliners, starting from FTL to Century, Classic and Cascadias for past 8 years till this days. I also drove Kenworth, Pete, and such a crap as International. Tell you what. Newer engines they make “fuel efficient” and bla bla bla, this engines becoming less stronger and less reliable. Good thing they don’t make them out of some kind of pressurized paper 🤣🤣🤣 Last week my fuel pump blew (shredded in pieces) and cost me around 10,000$ to have it replaced and flushing my fuel system from debris. And guess what? Factory guarantee was up to 300,000 miles for this part. My truck was at 304,000 miles when this happened. I’ve paid from my pocket to get me going. And it happened when I stoped, went to get water and came back to start the vehicle, booom, I heard this noise from engine and fuel start dripping right away. Thank you Freightliner for such a calculated warranty that 4000 miles over 300,000 miles warranty made me skip this privilege and pay the bill from my pocket. Anyway. I love DD15 engines. If you maintain it right, all you gonna do is change injectors from time to time. Change fuel line seals every 3-5 months, with time damaged oil pan plug will make you change a pan few times, and of course the Head. Be prepared to change it at 500-750,000 miles, right after your warranty expires.
Please let me know what you think of Western Star Trucks. Are they quality, are they comfortable to drive and are they affordable?🙃Thanks so much - you are the best community on the internet!

Canada sucks. Socialism is not good. I hope they don't become a part of the USA. We need LESS dumb people, not more.

US trucks are all fur coat and no knickers. The biggest US truck engine is smaller than the smallest European truck engine.
Yes. They are weak.
Cite your sources… 😂
@@nicholasrice8693 I am not allowed to post a link because it will be removed, so type this into Google. US and European truck engines.
@@nicholasrice8693 I am not allowed to post a link so type 'US and European truck engines' into TH-cam and look for 'Why so Different'.
There is American pick-up trucks with bigger engines than most European semi trucks
America, king of the big truck's!
You should try a Scania, it'll be like a trip to the future. 😉
Impressing....soon Abrams will need to roll out, the Nuclear Bear is coming :D
I was an army mechanic of M-113s, got to work on some DD engines

I agree, truck factories in Western Europe look more professional than those in America... Plus there's more robotics
Volvo
Long haul, that is a joke as your countries are so small....European trucks are junk.

Gigantic? No , we haven't built Gigantic Trucks really since the 70's.

I HAVE DRIVEN FREIGHTLINERS FOR YEARS ARE SOO ENJOYABLE TO DRIVE AND USE!! I HAVE ASO DRIVEN MACK TRUCKS WHICH IHATED TO DRIVE! ANDSTILLHATE!!
There are very interesting trucks, I am not a trucker but, I would probably prefer the Peterbilt truck for its reliability. 🙂

I drove a 60 series Detroit in a Pete. Loved that engine and it was way more fuel efficient than the Cummins and Cat
