Thanks for bringing Nara on again. I appreciate how honest and frank she is about her experiences and that she is willing to share them. Seriously, your videos with her made an impact on me and I’ve read so much about North Korea and defectors experiences as a result. Thank you!
Alone from the social-cultural perspective everybody should watch this video. Two fundamentally different value- and normsystems clashing together, raising eyebrows and awkward feelings. Much respect for Nara for sharing her experiences. Speaking so freely about her culture is surely not always a pleasant thing to do. P.S....glad you’re back, Kevin. :)
It's so refreshing to see someone just present a language and country with all the unnecessary demonizing politics for clickbait. Nara is such a fun personality too❤️
Love these culture vids with Nara! Her bluntness is on point lol. I kinda wish a mukbang was possible, but...most likely not. Tell Kevin we miss him too 😜😭😭
I’ve just discovered your channel and have been non stop binging videos!!! I really love your content and it’s super helpful when learning korean! 😁😁😁 Thank you for putting both English and Korean subtitles I know that’s a lot of extra work ❤️
Something I found interesting is that the word 사향쥐 typically means "muskrat" in Korean (사향 is the word for "musk" in Korean and appears to have roughly the same meaning in Korean as it does in English), but as Nara said is used in North Korea to refer to hamsters. It makes me wonder other foreign rodents are also referred to as 사향쥐 or if it's just hamsters.
I rate this video... All the burn ointment in the pharmacy for Nara and a trip to the hospital burn ward for Dave. Saltiest video I've seen in a while!
It's so interesting that North Korea incorporated the English word for jeans and South Korea didn't. That's really rare. I guess it makes sense considering how strongly they associate jeans with America.
These vids with Nara are always so eye opening. So surprised that North Koreans know about and actually have a term for Captain America being that the country is so anti-US. I wonder if his character was just used as a caricature or if people there actually watched the bootleg movie for entertainment.
I've been watching your videos dave since 2016 and now the 4 of you got on separate ways and things aren't the same 4 years ago😭 i hope the 4 of you comes back like the old times❤️
I think it would be good to put the (real) translations as well Dave! For example 사향쥐 is also a word in Korean but it means Muskrat! And another example was explaining 색안경 and describing it but you never gave the real word for it in English (coloured/tinted sunglasses). Happy holidays!
the thing is this isn't only a north korean thing. i mean, any poor person will have no choice if they are poor enough. have u ever seen a vegan that's poor? morals come with wealth, that's what my parents always said to me
American Koreans who don't know Korean that well and North Korean vocabulary have a lot in common. When I was younger and barely knew Korean or didn't have the (maturity of wanting to learn), I also call Jeans, "Jean Bah jee" as well
in peru, we also eat a certain kind of animal guinea pig, we have farms and some people form the andes region have them in their kitchen's. It tastes good, doesnt have a lot of meat but its good.
I'd really like to see a video where you talk to Nara about American culture and teach her different it is to how it was taught to her. It would be really interesting.
Very interesting video! Didn't know North Korea had anti American songs that severe 😃. But eh where did Dave gain weight? He looks great 😕. What's Nara seeing....
When cursing out or talking bad about Americans in n.korea, do they only use a white, blonde, blue eyed American as an example or do they know the US is very diverse?
It makes sense that it does. When Korea was split into, the North was fighting a largely segregated US military, where they highlighted fighting White guys. Their society is so isolated from the world, they can only base it on 1950s era. You can see how this isolation has led to two distinctly different versions of the Korean language just in this video alone, like how American English terms and slang differs from the UK or Australia.

색안경 (色眼镜) in Chinese actually means stereotypes as well though it literally means coloured glasses.
