But why the mom is standing so far away from the chicks.the poor birdies have to stretch out to get their food.

The older sibling has shown enormous forebearance in not giving #2 a proper thrashing.

From what I've seen, he gets very little. But its mostly his fault. he doesn't make the effort to move closer to Mom or Dad- whoever's feeding. He just sits behind or stares at and bites at the older one as it feeds.

The youngest seems pretty aggressive. That's great. They should both do well.

Better??? First off, it might be dad doing the morning feed and both chicks where feed just perfect. Remember, it’s an apex predator with large pointed and powerful talons as well as beak, they don’t want to accidentally injured their offspring which can happen, so hence the space between parent and chicks during feeding at this age. Also while the other parent is out of the nest this parent must be ready to fight off any predators who see the chicks as a meal. Adult eagles don’t particularly have any predators (usually humans) but the chicks do. Hope that gives some insight to your question.

No, not necessarily…..the females when fully grown are bigger than the males. Not by much about a 1/3 bigger.
