- I wish I knew this sooner, but being a Dad in New York City is not what I thought it would be like. You have to carry everything, especially with no car. On top of that, you have to keep 3 eyes on your fam because new york city is such a crazy crowded place! Anything can happen so check out our family vlog & family trip adventure and let me know if you had fun with us at the central park zoo!

A couple of tips for your next trip to the zoo: 1) go a little later in the day. The animals are more active in the afternoon. 2) Cooler weather is better. Most of the animals don't like the heat either. 3) Find out what color uniforms the zoo keepers wear and wear that color shirt. The animals associate that color with meal time so they're more likely to come out where you can see them. (Learned these tips from years and years of zoo trips with school and family)
I wish you have a Night Safari Zoo like the one we visited in Singapore
The nocturnal tour at the Belize National Zoo is a trip not easily forgotten… hearing/seeing the howler monkeys trumpeting is a sound heard once, will always be remembered.. ( that trip’s for later, when Violet is older) 🙂
In hot weather, animals are normally sleeping

I would also recommend seeing the animal houses in the hot part of the day to avoid the heat.

Cash, your managing and navigating that stroller all through NYC only reminded me about the importance of handicap access. Imagine what our fellow sisters and brethren along with others (parents with strollers or people with lots of packages) go through? Let's ALL remember these folks and willingly help them if we can and when needed. OH! I truly enjoyed this video!

@@barbizen same. As crappy as the LA Metro is, at least we have elevators (that even work occasionally). For the greatest city in the world, this is an absolute travesty. Regardless, Cash is still dad of the year! :)

That is so nice of you! I remember sometimes riding the train with the stroller and carrying the stroller and my son up the stairs in the subway. Everyone passes by without asking if you would like some assistance. Very few would ask me if I needed help and the ones that did, I really appreciated their act of kindness.😊

I was never physically more strong than when my kids were little (divorced my husband very early on). Just lugging the hardware of strollers, car seats, diaper bags, etc., is way more physically taxing than most would imagine.
I really miss those days. And miss being able to introduce them to experiences they've never had (they are grown and gone now). Enjoy every minute of it, Cash!! Don't stop seeking out new things to expose her to.

Hey Cash, I work at an aquarium and I just want to let you know that piranha are not as dangerous as people think they are. You could stick your hand in a piranha tank and be fine as long as they are on a regular feeding schedule. They only earn their reputation if they haven't eaten in like a month or more. Like sharks, Hollywood sure did royally mess with their reputation.
Sharks should get the respect of an extremely large, efficient predator! I know, because I was almost lunch for a giant hammerhead shark! Luckily I didn't lose any body parts and just required stitches. But, he followed me and my boys almost two miles down the beach as we walked at the waters edge. He launched himself out of the water at us several times,, once we pushed him back in because he was stuck on a bump of sand. Sharks are predators and should be respected as such, I have surfed my life and it didn't stop me from getting back out there, but I am more mindful now and don't let my guard down anymore.
@@oranjmusemeyer968 Just know that it was more than likely a case of mistaken identity. Sharks have not ever eaten people. We have too many bones and bones are not tasty for sharks. Remember, you are more likely to be killed by a cow than a shark!

@@queens6583 I work at an aquarium, in fact, I’m educator at an aquarium. It’s literally my job to tell people that sharks aren’t man eaters. There is literally zero evidence of sharks actually eating humans.

You can avoid Starbucks for restrooms in the area and get decent coffee by going into the Todd English Food Hall. It’s the lower level of the Plaza Hotel across the street from the lower eastern corner of Central Park (across the street from the Apple Store on Fifth Avenue).

I love the zoo. But I love Central Park more. When I go, I visit Balto, Alice in Wonderland, watch the radio cntrolled boats go by in the pond (and remember Stuart Little) and pass by the Zoo and the Merry Go Round. We were loved kids spoiled by our single Mom.😊💖😊

I love your home life videos as much as your apartment ones. I mean, I’m as likely to visit New York as I am to rent an apartment there since I’m English and I have a small army of children. But I would love to eat in some of these places!

Ken’s rating A+. I’ve never been to the Central Park Zoo, so thanks for the visit! Yes, a zoo visit for me is looking at rocks and bushes because I don’t see any animals. The zoo where I saw the most active animals was the Toledo zoo. Now, I don’t know if it’s considered a zoo, but Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Orlando is amazing. You have to ride the safari ride to see many of the animals, but you will see elephants frolicking! LOVE THESE FAMILY VIDEOS!!! ❤️❤️❤️

I wish i was as happy about one thing in my life as Violet is about those sea lions...you have a beautiful family friend. ..just watching you guys actually get to the park was exhausting to me so i can only imagine how exhausted you guys were at the end of the day...as a proud mother of 10 i can say from experience the most important thing you can give you child is your time...for it goes so quickly one day you look up and a grown woman will be standing where your sweet baby girl was....so savor the flavor friend....every minute..you can tell you guys spend a lot of time together and that's a beautiful thing.
The best time to visit almost any zoo to ensure that the majority of animals are active exhibits is early to mid-spring and September to mid October (give or take a few weeks dependent on weather and where you live). Most animals are sleeping off their 'heat hangovers' during summer months.

I was born and raised in NYC, I'm in my mid 60's now, I remember going to that zoo as a child. It was very different back then, all the animals were in cages, very inhumane to say the least. There was a merry-go-round there also. Enjoy these years with Violet, they go by way too quick, believe me, I know. My kids are in their 30's now, we took them to the Bronx Zoo when they were little, it was a fun time back then, not sure how it is now, but worth checking out.

Every year, when I worked w/children, we went to the zoo. I noticed two things about the animals: they were a 'no show' or they were mating. Try to explain that to pre-school children :) I found the birds, penguins and reptiles to be the most fun and reliable.

Btw, skip the gift shop at the end by buying a toy BEFORE the trip and presenting it to your kid at the end. They'll be thrilled and you save money. Takes some planning though

Zoo tip. Go first thing in the morning or when it’s a bit cooler outside. The animals tend to nap more when it’s hot out. They are most active in the mornings and evenings overall.
You need a collapsible stroller. They make the umbrella type.
Yes, but might not be so comfy for Violet to nap.
I did that when my daughter was little. I hooked on a guitar strap and slung it across my back when going in and out of the subway.

This was so hilarious and fun! I haven't been to a zoo in many years. The rat was a laugh out loud moment since, well, I've been to New York so I was expecting rats. And I am not surprised that the penguins won the entire ratings day. Penguins are just the best. I recall during the pandemic, when the CA Academy of Sciences in San Francisco was closed to the public, the keeper noticed that the penguins were getting bored and depressed with no people coming to visit them. So she let them follow her around while she cared for the other animals. The penguins had a blast and cheered right up!

Your family reminds me of my family when I was a kid. Caucasian dad, Japanese mom, and one Hapa daughter. Disappointed that Violet didn’t get to see my favorite, the Red (lesser) Pandas. She would have loved them.

I travel around nyc with my daughter using a backpack carrier. Osprey poco plus. So awesome and she loves it way better over the stroller. Perfect for needing to go to stairs.
I just googled this and OMGosh that would be epic for living in NYC with a child. Cash really needs to get one of these and make his life easier
