Thanks for this amazing video @UrbanPlumbers. As an end-user with limited knowledge of inner workings of how boilers work and how to optimise them, your videos have helped me understand much better what to look out for. I've recently managed to purchase my first property (3-bed semi, with 1 bathroom). We are adding a toilet downstairs (How can people live without one there?) and are one day looking to add extra bedroom with bathroom in the attic. I almost made the mistake to go for a combi system and am now convinced a system boiler is much more suitable for our needs (running multiple appliances and bathrooms at the same time if required). So far I thought I need to get something around the 30KW mark but I was surprised when you said a 10kW system should be the standard for system boilers. I am looking to have the ecoTec Plus range fitted with a tank (150-200L capacity) but I am now unsure what kW to have now. The house wont even have 10 radiators but my current builder suggested 30/32kW but having watched your video it seems excessive. Am i missing something?
My experience is that few installers understand controls and tuning the boiler for the house heat retention (every house is different and as you noted- will alter over time). Did you consider a heat pump (again if crap insulation and old rads then this will be harder). How many installers told you to use valliant thermostats, TRVs on all rads, weather compensation? Doubt many did and when you ask them, its like an rebuke to their knowledge over yours... Will the (if old) rads be power flushed first. What makes you think a combi is not an answer if you'll have at best one main bathroom and one future extra hot tap, one more Rad (attic) and would all the rads be in full heat use all the time (nope for most)
@ 7:52 the same as Viessmann started doing with the Vitodens 200 series a few years ago … :p This feature should be mandatory for all gas boilers… as well as a minimum of 10:1 power modulation
Hi mate, enjoy your videos but there was something you said in this one that doesn't ring true to me.When you say installing third party controls like nest or hive is not compliant with current Regulations, which Regs are you referring too? many thanks,
Great information. I’m going to installer on Thursday, hopefully see you there 🫡. Is the senso control built into the boiler now like on the viessmann boilers? That would be a game changer
Hi Szymon !Outstanding technology and premium system I can tell. I have installed an ecotec plus combi VUW 36cs a few months ago on my detached 220 sq m house in north Greece. We are 6 people including 2 young children so The 36kw was on-way choice for hot water because I have 3 bathrooms with 3 showers , sometimes at the same time ! I use LPG fuel and connected via esbe solar kit with my solar panels for max efficiency , more hot water plus economy ! The results are amazing & I’m very happy for it! Also the ecotec work as hybrid with my arotherm plus for central heating at the sub-zero days! It is very quiet and easy to use .And yes As you said NEVER use third party controllers. I’ll wait to see you install it as a hybrid with arotherm plus and also the settings on 720 senso! Greetings from Greece!
What size (kW) of aroherm plus do you have for that 220 sq m house? I also live in a house of roughly the same size. Pretty well isolated, good efficient radiators, no underfloor heating though.. and also an ecoTEC Plus boiler that is hybrid ready. Investigating heat pump solutions nowadays to expand the system. And could you perhaps explain a bit more the role of the solar kit/panels in your system? D o you also have an (electric) boiler like an Vaillant eloSTOR? Many thanks :)
Hi @@trashmail8 I have the 10Kw arotherm plus, model 125/6! My arotherm plus is only for heat no Dhw ! Ecotec plus is now take place to cover dhw needs of 6 people in a detached house with 3 bathrooms including 3 showers. Αt the summer months dhw is covered exclusively from the solar panels with a boiler of 200Lt ! No electric boiler , no other source .So I made another hybrid system for dhw , installing this solar kit from ESBE company. This system is a mechanic kit with 2 3-way valves built only for gas boilers with instant dhw. As the solar panels have enough sun for hot water and the temperature is above 45 degrees the hot water make a bypass from the ecotec. When there is not sun or the sunlight is insufficient the hot water then will get back to the ecotec , will be fired to the temperature of 40 degrees (best degree set up for dhw) , the dt difference from 30 to 40 , 10 degrees. Winter 20 to 40= dt20! At that way I always have cheap hot water and the results are unbelievable! The ecotec can manage this future from the smallest load to the largest whenever you want it! Hope to help!
@@GD1200gs Thank you so much for this elaborate reply! This is really useful information. You wrote "As the solar panels have enough sun for hot water", which cleared up a lot. Initially I was thinking about the kind of (photovoltaic ) solar panels that generate electricity (hence the electric boiler remark), not the solar thermal collectors/panels. ;) Also very good to know which model and size of heat pump you're using for heating only. Once again, thank you very much! :) :)
Hi Urban Plumbers, Can you share with us why you choose this eco tec plus version above the exclusive version or classic version. I need a new boiler next year (shame I live in the Netherlands, I would defiantly called you) so I am curious why this type. Nice video als always. Thanks for your reaction.
Great informative video, just one point about old case clips, they have a small half moon shape cut-out in them, place a straight bladed screw driver ( 6mm ish) in the cut-out from below. Pull the handle towards you and even the tightest clips pop in place.
About time we had a boiler that runs from 2.5 kw to 10 kw. My daughter's brand new flat has a 36 kw B/W that only goes down to 7.15 kw, the heating demand is 4.2 kw maximum, the system was designed by B/W and yet it is not compliant with energy efficiency regulations. The pump was left at its max speed (4) its now (2), its locked at a gas rate of 7.15 kw now, two rads I can only get a 11 deg temp diff, the other three are around 3 degs diff, you cannot get any more, I have locked the flow at a max of 48 degs for now. 22mm plastic and 10mm plastic drops, sums it up, utter crap. by the way, it has two zones, two programable room stats not to boiler plus, and 1 meter from floor, behind doors and the sun shines on one all day, plus thermostatic valves on all rads. ( I removed the heads). As for the Vaillant controls your wasting your breath, If most engineers could fit half a boiler to put more money in their pockets they would. We have had Vaillant/Glowworm weather comp for over 15 years and they wouldn't even know it's available as they are not interested. Thanks for the run-through on the new boiler.
I am looking forward to seeing one for myself. Glad to see improvements - Front cover clips are updated the current ones are sometimes impossible to engage. The isolation valve bore larger than the the current model. Hopefully that might make a difference to the approaching 3.5mB drop on the inlet to the larger boilers ? Gas valve - hopefully more reliable. Good to see the improved modulation rates - long overdue. It would be good to see a reduction in cost of external controls. I appreciate the efficiencies and the facilities they provide but at a cost ! The last job priced on a system was approx £550 - 600 with added WC, 4G connectivity. Also Vaillant technical has improved hugely over the last year or so. Thank you, arguably the most significant improvement of all and should never be under estimated. Thank you for your presentation.
in most cases controls will be around £200-£500 mark if you decide to zone. The thing is though, if you use those contorls and run weather comp, you shouldn't overzone anymore or maybe not aven zone at all, as you can run 3 separte weather curves form a single controller and VR71
@@UrbanPlumbers Hi Szymon. Thank you for your reply. I am really interested in this. How would 3 separate weather curves work if you are not zoning and presumably also not using indoor sensors ? If you are not zoning would you not need a VR71 and connect the WC direct to the boiler ? Thank you for your input.
Hi mate, why are third party controls against current regulations with vaillant boilers? Thats new to me and I'm wondering where I can find this information?
Had this installed and unable to get the weather comp working - spoke to Vaillant and they're telling me it needs to use the internal thermostats but I think they misunderstood. Can you do a video showing how to setup weather comp on the sensocomfort? My installer doesn't know how to set it up. I think its a combination of room temp mod and heat curve from reading the manual.
Been fitting vsmarts on the ecotec plus’s for a while now and have done a couple of sensocomforts but have given up on them at the moment as when setting them up I like to ring technical to go over all the settings and twice Ive had the tech guy put the phone down on me as soon as i mention sensocomfort. They seem to be a great bit of kit but unfortunately unless you have a big following on certain platforms then reps don’t reply to messages and training courses are non existent to get on. Keep up the great work your vids are great.
That’s not acceptable. I am sure Vaillant will want to know about it? I agree, more training on controls is needed and tech is not always up to date with controls.
The controls are not that difficult to understand other than some strange worded things in installer settings. Surely after fitting one or two you should get to grips with it
Looking forward to you installing this boiler in a hybrid configuration with a Vaillant Arotherm. The inside of this looks similar to the EcoTec Exclusive GreenIQ.
This recently released model is an improvement on the previous ecoTEC plus, but it looks like it has taken plumbing material and hardware from the best selling manufacturer in Germany. I do feel that this will be the best boiler, combi or system in Europe within the next few years.
Had a new ecotec plus installed sept 21. Its a fantastic thing. Had a turbomax in my last house that was dated 1988 according to the date stamp on the expansion tank which I replaced, and was the only thing that went faulty during the 5 years of living there. When I moved my choice of boiler was determined on the strength of that faultless turbomax. My only gripe with my new vaillant is the VSmart thermostat. Just under a year the thermostat internals melted because the supplied batteries were an unbranded type and they leaked. Vaillant engineer came out and replaced it. Since then the thing constantly lost connection, the heating came on willy nilly even thought set temp is 13°. Contacted Vaillant, who sent out an engineer, he fitted a complete new kit and all seems well so far. Turns out the thermostat and communication unit are paired at the factory and should always be replaced as a kit. I hope this VSmart install will live up to the brand name and my expectations.
@@UrbanPlumbers ohh thanks, so then with the new control panel sensoHOME / sensoHOME RF room thermostat would a house set up with ambiSENSE smart TRVs be suitable
I know this is an older comment, but Tado will modulate a Vaillant boiler with Ebus if you use the right receiver. The UK wireless one doesn't modulate, but the EU one does, as well as, I beleive, the wired in thermostat, but you may have to check that. Tado seems to be the only 3rd party controller that does work with Vaillant/Glow-worm though.
Come on Szymon. You're wearing a Vaillant cap, received a new boiler model early, plugging their range and are working on their Installer stand, anything we should know? Looks good btw. ;)
Not working on their stand! Will be visiting today. I got the cap for my installer points and got another one on a trip to Germany. It is a sponsored video though and I am not hiding that.
Hi Simon , I just got one of this new eco tec plus 615 for my own house and we rang you today with Sebastian (MDS) if you remember to ask if that senso confort control and more particular the (VR10) will work with telford tempest plus. As far I understand the drypocket on the telford will be used to put the VR10 sensor and you will not have the standard sylinder stat supplied with the telford, but using the VR71 they asking to install 12k (limit thermostat ) .I hope you can help me on this with a advise. Many thanks Kaloyan
I love my Hive thermostat and the ease of control it gives me, unlike the fiddly controls on the boiler. I was going to have a Vaillant Combi next time (my current Combo is 14 years old) but if I'm not advised to use Hive with it I will select another boiler.
@@UrbanPlumbers My combi is 14 years old. Better control of my central heating with Hive has reduced my gas bill by 20%. I don't have heat on during the night as I like a cool bedroom. I breathe more easily in cooler bedrooms. PS. your videos are very interesting and I'm learning about AH heat pumps as well as admiring your pipework. Cheers!
@@UrbanPlumbers perfect thank you very much! Last question, if you have the time: looking at getting the 826 installed in a single bathroom house, will the 26kw be enough for hot water? We are replacing a traditional 50 year old boiler that can go between 16 and 22kw and heats the house fine (826 goes to just shy of 20kw) its the water that is a concern?
How low can the weather compensation curve go? Could we for instance start the boiler at say 2°C outside and have a flow temp of 30°C at an outside temp of -3°C? The boiler would be for DHW with our mini split a/c doing the heating most of the time but I'm thinking the gas CH could kick in when it's very cold outside and the heat pumps become less efficient. Thanks for all your great content.
with such a low flow temp heat pumps are still more efficient than gas. If you can run 30c at -2 then there really is no need for gas anymore. My heat pump is arouind COP of 3.5 at -2 and flow of 32C
Thank you for this video really useful. Can you please advise which is more efficient this boiler or heat pumps? I am renovating my whole house and wanted advice.
So is the system boiler minimum modulation is 2.5kw at 80/60 which we dont install now, its more like 50/30 on a new build, which I'm assuming is a higher minimum modulation than 80/60? This was the case on the previous ecotec exclusive
The diverter valve on the combi version of this boiler is in a different position than existing eco tec. Pls the pipework leading from the valve to the inside of the boiler have easy to remove clips. Saw it all at Installer today
Ive just has this boiler installed. It replaced a much older ecotec plus and I have a Nest thermostat. Even though I have the nest already set up can I still use the Vaillant app?
@@UrbanPlumbersjust coming back to this. Since installing this boiler, I've noticed we seem to run out of hot water more quickly than before and I can't work out why. It also seems to heat up the radiators much more slowly than previous Vaillant boiler. Is it because I have a Nest or for other reasons?
3rd party controls are only on / off on vaillant as vaillant doesn’t share its bus protocol or allows OT. On/off controls don’t meet boiler plus. Also, os system boilers on/off makes it impossible to consume with current part L regulations.
I had the ecoTec Plus 43kw installed earlier this year and I can't believe Vaillant haven't added an ethernet port if they want to do smart controls properly. I couldn't get my Vaillant controls to work reliably in the house because the signal to the garage is poor - I suspect many people are in a similar situation. In the end I had to get the installer back to run a cable through the wall and install the control unit in the cupboard under the stairs. Was a bit of a faff.
As you said that you should use the original control... I've got a tado hooked up via OT to a Vitodens 100. Runs like a charm. (simple off/on was installed before that) Do you know any drawbacks when using OT?
Third party controls can work great, if you want the easiest out of the box going to work great experience then it’s best to stick with the boiler controls as the software will have been developed alongside each other.
I’ve just had the Vaillant eco tech plus 32kw fitted but I’m not sure which senso control pad to choose. The “sensoHOME” or “sensoCOMFORT”?? Plus do you need an extra internet control unit to have the senso app on your smartphone?
Very nice I've got an eco tec sustain I think. Good boilers, mine has weather comp but not open therm. Can't fault em. I'm at installer on Thursday so I might see if I can get a look at one. 😊
WOW... what a great video for consumers like me. My plumber proposes to fit a Vallient EcoTec plus 635 system boiler, a 200 l Mega Flow hot-water tank and non-Vallient controls!!!!! I shall get him him to fit Vallient controls (as you advise). You say boilers that are too big for the house are inefficient. How do I find out if the 635 is too big for my old 4 bedroom house in the UK?
It is too big. 4 bed houses are between 5-10kW heat loss. Ask your installer to carry out a heat loss survey. Most likely you will only need a 10-15kW boiler
@@UrbanPlumbers Thanks very, very much indeed. Mine house is not an 'ordinary' 4 bedroom house. It was built in 1850, it has solid stone & rubble walls - 600mm thick in the cellar, 500mm thick at ground floor, 400 mm thick at first floor and 300mm thick gables in the loft. It has single glazed sash windows, which can not be double glazed because it is a listed building and 200 mm of rock-wool insulation in the roof. Does all that suggest it might need a 10-15KW boiler? Please let me know before I ask my installer to do a heat loss survey so I am forearmed. Thanks very much, Tony. PS...By the way, is the heat output from the boiler supposed to equal the heat loss?
@@UrbanPlumbers I installed one a few years ago, flushed the system fully, added inhibitor, and the diverter valve leaked a year or so down the line. I gathered this was a common issue, as there seems to be alternative versions of the valve now available.
Thanks for that. I'm currently looking to replace a 14-year old boiler for my flat (in continental Europe). I got quotes for these 3 models: - Viessmann VItodens 100W 25kW - Bosch GC3000W ZWB 28-3 CEcombi 20,4 kW - Vaillant Ecotec Plus VCW296 Which one do you recommend?
@@UrbanPlumbersHi Szymon, if you added in the option of the Intergas Xtreme 30 to the Viessmann or Vaillant......what is the recommendation then? Never heard of Intergas until I saw that you rate them, plus I then liked the idea of less in them to go wrong.... swapping out from an Ideal combi 30 which has been a tale of misery over the years - looking for the best long-term replacement (re reliability/efficiency). Thanks.
Ive had a baxi 800 combi boiler the last few years with only problem being a faulty convertor valve. This was changed under the 10 year guarantee. What do you think of this particular boiler?
What additional kit is required to get it running purely on weather compensation mode? No sign of an outside sensor in the box - is it in the flue or something? Isn't it about time boilers used Internet data and an API to know what the outside temp is?
@@Haik0 We installed the Viessmann Vitodens 100W system boiler - the weather comp sensor is a 17 pence 10k NTC. The four pipe system replaced everything - header tank, cylinder stat, room stat, timer, 3-port valve, circulation pump, and wiring centre. Thoroughly recommend it and the 11kW version is only £788 inc VAT!
Any news of a new heat only model as well it seems odd both baxi and vallaint miss updating there models for this market of old property types as there big issues sometimes with moving to a system variant
I remember trying to get people to keep their hot water cylinders or upgrade them to unvented. Normally they already had their hearts set on using that space for something else and dint want to pay the extra costs. Also trying to tell people they only needed like 9kw to heat their house not 25 or 30 kw cos more is better.
@UrbanPlumbers the 10KW,15KW and 20KW system boilers all seem to have the same minimum output .. Do you know if the lower output models are more efficient at lower modulation or something like that ? Otherwise for the small cost difference isn't it good enough to get say a 20KW and range rate it since minimum modulation is same in all three models........
No, always size units correctly. No need for bigger pipes and also you are not risking unit firing at high flame when it first fires. The iunsecurty of installers about sizing drives me crazy. It is what got us to the mess we are in now - boilers oversized by a marging of 20! Heat loss first and correctly sized unit is the way to go.
@UrbanPlumbers -- Valiant can be used with Nest to its full potential. For hot water priority use VR65/VR66 box to force hot water priority via classic 240v request for heat signal. And you can install external sensor for weather compensation. Been running this setup for years.
@@UrbanPlumbers nothing is lost Sir. All that is needed from boiler is activated and used. I have heat-only Vaillant Eccho tec 428 with cylinder and 4 zone valves each controlled by Nests via “call to heat” wire. The cylinder gets hot water priority via VR65 box and when I have call from cylinder the boiler will heat water in its native water heating mode, at high temperature. i repeat, nothing is lost. I also have temperature compensator installed directly in boiler fascia and my heating is working in low temperature, I can select curve etc. Domestic hot water is heated by boiler in its native mode, activated via VR65 box, via Vailiiant internal bus protocol. Nothing is lost I can assure you.
@@UrbanPlumbers great question. No NTC in the 300 lites Vaillant cylinder as I was too lazy to bring another cable though the house. But NTC is connectable to VR65 as well if I ever need to. I don’t think NTC in the cylinder brings a lot of benefit. All I need is to heat my water at maximum power in one long run, before it switches back to heating again. You mentioned losing warranty, but it’s standard Valiant equipment and their standard software features, so I can’t imagine warranty can be declined on that basis. British installers do not know that 240v call for heat terminal is not mutually exclusive with VR65 and Vailllant’s bus protocol, i.e. if request for hot water comes via the protocol the hot water will take priority from 240v call for heat terminal and everything is working correctly.
@@UrbanPlumbers comparing heat-only boilers, would you use new Vaillant with their aluminium exchangers or go for Viessmann with their sh1tty built quality for heat-only boilers, but stainless steel exchangers? It seems Viessman won’t be as quiet. Who makes the best quality heat-only boilers today?
Given the choice now that there’s a 30kw model system, would you choice this or the echo tech iq green 27kw? Since there almost the same price and why?
Hi Szymon, so the system does 10 kw heating and 19 kw dhw? It looks like a two pipe boiler so i am guessing you can only achieve this by piping it using the divertor valve/priority hw set up you showed in a previous video? So the boiler has two switched lives each in turn controlling different parameters? If this is the case can you tell me what control would be required? Great work as always mate.
We just had installed the latest model Vaillant Ecotec plus 832 32kW and the diverter value makes one hell of a noise. Had a new one replaced by Vaillant with no change whatsoever 😢
I’m having problems with mine since day 1. it was installed 3 months ago and cannot heat up 11 rads. Vaillant coming out tomorrow let’s see what they say
Weird things happening with out install (occurring as I type this) there is no option to set whether the boiler is using weather compensation, and under the diagnostic codes there is no option for 162, there is just 161 and 164. Tried a factory reset and nothing.
I have an ecoTec Plus 832 combi fitted October 22 with the flap. The installer fitted the Hive Mini. Please can you explain if I would be better swapping it for a Vaillant Hive equivalent and if so what type? They never said anything at the time about it not being compliant or not good :( thank you.
Shame I bought an older 630 last year, oversized though could easily have got away with 18kw. The new one looks very good, do you know what price they will be selling this boiler at? Would also be interesting to see you do a video going through the new display on the boiler. Can you set heating curves like on Viessmann?
Worcester is nowhere near the quality of Vaillant. Vaillant is years ahead of Worcester in therms of modulation, pump control, priority hot water and weather compnesation.
Looks like a nice bit of kit, Vaillant lags well behind the other manufacturers in terms of user interface. All this entering random locations to find or enter information needs to go.
I had one fitted a few months ago and asked the fitter to range rate it for me and he said it's on auto so not needed. I never saw it go beyond minimum load and took an hour to warm up. Looking up on the internet I saw somebody who had the same problem and was told to stop the auto and range it to your system. So I knocked it down to 10kw and low and behold it fired up properly and the flow pipe was hot. The manufacturer and installers should be aware of this. Too many installers just bung it on the wall and connect the pipes.
Your fitter was correct. Should have left it on auto and install vaillant controls. Forcing it to 10kW and having pipes “hot” is not how those boilers are supposed to operate
@@UrbanPlumbers Got vaillant sensoroom connect weather comp controls ranged lower for my small system works fine. On auto stayed on minimum load as others on internet have found. Too many fitters don't adjust the system nearer to the load.
Looks like the V200 is still king of weather comp and modulation (2kW Viessmann vs. 2.5 kW Vaillant). Phew! Was worried we would need to change brands!
It can run pure WC, modulate to 2.5kw and has a pump with adjustable everything thanks to new linbus- DT, DP, constant speed, etc. around 250-280 parameters now.
@@singlendhot8628 Yes, it is a much better boiler. You also have to remember that the boiler itself is not everything. Viessmann is notoriously bad with backup, spares, and availability. Vaillant may not be as well engineered as V200, but it offers not only a decent boiler but also decent backup, good availability, and decent customer service. As an overall product, it has to be a better offering than V200?
@@UrbanPlumbers Hate to say it my friend, but other than the odd electrode or burner pad every now and then, the Viessmann 200-W does not go wrong in our experience. We've installed and serviced dozens of them! Vaillant poached all of Viessmann's staff so yes, they are much better at support to your point! But the end product is not as efficient despite being newer wouldn't you say?
Could someone please tell me how do you install teh outdoor sensor for these boilers ? Does the exhost pipe exit hole good to use to wire the sensor or a separate hole needs to be drilled ?
@UrbanPlumbers but the controls are always massive, brick like, with small display limited functionality. I do usually fit the 700 weather comp but I have customer with sight issues and so will use evohome, full colour touch screen better layout for customer. I have had issues with Vaillant control reliability, rotary scroll erratic and loss of internal battery back up. Then my gripe over lack of customisable options for home screen display, as I have my solar thermal on a vr68. I do on demand requests for hot water and so I need to see cylinder temperature easily. I want this on my home screen, I can modify the home screen on my fooling p4 pellet boiler at my office. I used to fit DFA2 by heating controls and customers could easily toggle between T2 and T3 to get really good idea of hot water. Then Resol ditched the DFA unit in favour of SD3 which was more form over function.
@@chrishampele181 Yes, if you install a Vaillant system boiler with anything else than Vaillant controls you are no longer able to meet new part L regulations of running the central heating at maximum of 55C and at the same time providing legionella protection to your hot water cylinder. You should always use PDHW on a system boiler (on Vaillant this forces Vaillant controls) as I cannot see how you can realistically use a regular S plan with 3rd party controls and comply with part L. On combi boilers, you are not supposed to use on / off controls anymore either. However, the boiler plus has been made so vague that 'optimized' controls can still be used, so in a way you can still use on/off bur really shouldn't.
Hello, what model of ecotec plus combi boiler you recommend 826 or 832 to replace vuw 242 as I am confused as vaillant web recommended 832 but any other plumber web 826, thanks
Not strictly true that it can’t or shouldn’t be used with third party controls, Tado which has eBus digital interface will modulate this boiler quite well. Are you a Vaillant Advanced installer?
Finally, the minimum modulation is down to 2.5 kW on the 26kW combi - my existing Vaillant 24 kW combi only goes down to about 6 kW and cycles WAY too much especially when showering during summer months (3 bed house with lots of insulation, and shower drain water heat recovery) - bad for the boiler and probably a chunk of methane emissions too.
This looks fantastic, thank you for the review! Still on 828e Turbomax but trying to think ahead, Scot Gov talking about banning Gas Boilers and might be prudent to swap out before legislation gets passed!
I'm excited to wtart fitting these. Modulation on the old plus models wasnt the worst but certainly wasnt the best. Interesting about the dual outouts on PDHW too. Will we still need to be installing the vr66/2 wiring centre as well? Amy idea about price point?
@ 3:30 I have rather unpleasant memories with Vaillant's motorized gas valves - at least the old models got stuck quite often... they have only one advantage: they consume less current for modulation than the classic ones @ 1w...
Would anyone know, the Vailliant controls on these new Ecotec plus. Do they need external 3 pin plug power? Noticed in the video, its been clipped to the bottom of the boiler and plugged in. Is this the same for the combi?
@UrbanPlumbers Thank you so much for your reply. Going to install the 32kw combi. So if I understand the Internet gateway way connected via ebus will need a 3 pin plug supply, but the thermostat will be wireless with AA batteries.
I don't understand why you can't adjust the kw output . If heat loss is 10 kw ,why can't be adjusted . I know you can use weather comp ,but not all customers want that .
I Co podoba ci się? Zamówiłem sobie dzisiaj - nie mogę się doczekać! Kolega mój - Igor Chuchro - mówiłem mi ze kiedyś na treningu jakims ciebie poznał. Powodzenia!
I have one question if I may. I spoke with Vaillant a short while ago and they said that their controls are capable and would operate perfectly well/efficiently on S plan and that PDHW wasnt required. Is this your experience ? Thank you
@@UrbanPlumbers This should be quite an advantage when upgrading a system from third party controls to Vaillant, as the alterations maybe purely electrical and not pipework. Thank you for your feedback
@@UrbanPlumbers we had a Valiant 20 years old replaced, a Valiant engineer worked ot my needs and said the smaller would do the job, it’s now working flat out with all setting on max. @ 5:48 - agree; but they should make the housings in multiple colors or at least black and white ... I had ladies who chose another brand of thermostat strictly for color ... - if they still ask a lot of money for them, it would be interesting to offer this option even for a fee…
Technological boiler, beautiful. It’s a pity for us Ukrainians are not up to it yet, many don’t even have enough drinking water, others have lost their homes or loved ones. ❤️🇺🇦
@ and Vaillant and Viessmann chose to equip the boilers with 3-way valves of lower quality than those used in the past... viessmann returned to their older design which was only reliable if you only had distilled water in the installation, otherwise they would get stuck; and Vaillant gave up their old, relatively reliable and long-lived models and switched in recent years to the current models, where several times I have found the part in the 3-way valve that makes the deflection jump off the shaft because the C-type clamps that I keep it in position, they jumped off the shaft... The list price for the sub-assembly is 250 E... and I saw this part broken under warranty after not even 6 months of operation... Why chose to be evil ?
thank you i have a Vaillant boiler that is 20 years old that I have had no problems with but its time to get a new one .
What makes you think a combi is not an answer if you'll have at best one main bathroom and one future extra hot tap, one more Rad (attic) and would all the rads be in full heat use all the time (nope for most)
Never send a boiler unboxing before 😀
Must be the first 👏👏
@ 7:52 the same as Viessmann started doing with the Vitodens 200 series a few years ago … :p
This feature should be mandatory for all gas boilers… as well as a minimum of 10:1 power modulation
That exact Plus model was fitted for us here in germany 2 years ago. No issues so far with it. Runs great with Vaillant controls
Is Vaillant no1 boiler brand in German homes?
Hi mate, enjoy your videos but there was something you said in this one that doesn't ring true to me.When you say installing third party controls like nest or hive is not compliant with current Regulations, which Regs are you referring too? many thanks,
Went to Installer today and had a look at it. Smart looking and great technology, I totally agree with you on the 10kw boiler, game changer.
yes, it's nice to see a compnay going into the right direction! Thank you for watching.
Initially I was thinking about the kind of (photovoltaic ) solar panels that generate electricity (hence the electric boiler remark), not the solar thermal collectors/panels. ;)
Also very good to know which model and size of heat pump you're using for heating only. Once again, thank you very much! :) :)
@@trashmail8 Not much need for heating the home in a Greek summer/Autumn unless its very north Greece... Just DHW in the summer then
Hi Urban Plumbers,
Can you share with us why you choose this eco tec plus version above the exclusive version or classic version.
I need a new boiler next year (shame I live in the Netherlands, I would defiantly called you) so I am curious why this type.
Nice video als always.
Thanks for your reaction.
Can't wait to the next garage episode, essentially the hybrid install with the arotherm plus add on.
I am thinking about that set-up for my home.
Great informative video, just one point about old case clips,
they have a small half moon shape cut-out in them, place a straight bladed screw driver ( 6mm ish) in the cut-out from below.
Pull the handle towards you and even the tightest clips pop in place.
you always learn something new, thanks!
Glad to see improvements -
Front cover clips are updated the current ones are sometimes impossible to engage.
No, you can run 2 or 3 (can’t remember which one it’s is ) mixers from vr71
Hi mate, why are third party controls against current regulations with vaillant boilers?
Thats new to me and I'm wondering where I can find this information?
I have fitted this boiler my self 836 what a brilliant boiler ...
Would love to see a video on this.
Another option would be for Vaillant to upload videos accessible for accredited installers which go through the setting up process for various systems
It all on Vaillant’s training platform already
The controls are not that difficult to understand other than some strange worded things in installer settings. Surely after fitting one or two you should get to grips with it
You sure you're not calling Viessmann UK?
Love the ferroli in the background.😊 Love the new interface.
it's Glow Worm - got it with the house.
Jesi li zadovoljan sa tim Vaillant-om, grije li dobro i je li velika potrošnja?
V Smart is not great. Get senso home as it’s much better
@@UrbanPlumbers Thanx for the advice and reply.
I'll go check it out and replace VSmart when it goes wrong when warranty runs out.
Gr8 videos 👍
@UrbanPlumbers Look forward for your video on hybrid operation with the heat pump .. Does vaillant have a schematic for this configuration ?
Love the work you do, shame you stated that third party controls should not be used, wouldn't Tados opentherm work well to assist zoned heating?
Vaillant doesn’t support OT

Are you planning a follow up video on this?
Not really. Just installed a heat pump at my place so no more gas here
Will their controls modulate on a two zones house? If not this is why i am probably going to have to go with Viessmann and opentherm controls.
What do you think of the new Vaillant 940 store combi?
I love my Hive thermostat and the ease of control it gives me, unlike the fiddly controls on the boiler. I was going to have a Vaillant Combi next time (my current Combo is 14 years old) but if I'm not advised to use Hive with it I will select another boiler.
Hive is good awful and only and on / off thermostat that kills any modern boiler efficiency and also shortens the life span of the appliance

My heat pump is arouind COP of 3.5 at -2 and flow of 32C
wow look forward to the hybrid combination video with the heat pump
Thank you for this video really useful. Can you please advise which is more efficient this boiler or heat pumps? I am renovating my whole house and wanted advice.
Is that test point on the gas for working pressure
So is the system boiler minimum modulation is 2.5kw at 80/60 which we dont install now, its more like 50/30 on a new build, which I'm assuming is a higher minimum modulation than 80/60?
This was the case on the previous ecotec exclusive
The diverter valve on the combi version of this boiler is in a different position than existing eco tec. Pls the pipework leading from the valve to the inside of the boiler have easy to remove clips. Saw it all at Installer today
Is this gas boiler having the option to connect the flue directly on the back of it, besides the upper flue connection?
Ive just has this boiler installed. It replaced a much older ecotec plus and I have a Nest thermostat.
Even though I have the nest already set up can I still use the Vaillant app?
Get rid of the Nest asap and install senso home or senso comfort
@UrbanPlumbers can't I just use it via the App?
@Brownwhale7 no. Also nest will not control the boiler correctly
Awesome thanks for your efforts and sharing your experience ❤
Thanks. What are the current regs that say you can't install 3rd party controls?
@tonyb83 just multiply your floor area by around 70 watts per m2 to get into a ballpark for a house with solid walls.
@@UrbanPlumbers Great thanks very much. Is that just the ground floor area or total area of all three floors?
@ all floors
Let’s see if their diverted valves still leak (obviously not on system versions)! Looks quality. Only to be expected.
I have never had a single diverted leak on my installs? Maybe water quality or inhibitor issue?
@@UrbanPlumbersthey leak for a pass time mate.
I got quotes for these 3 models:
- Viessmann VItodens 100W 25kW
- Bosch GC3000W ZWB 28-3 CEcombi 20,4 kW
- Vaillant Ecotec Plus VCW296

Ive had a baxi 800 combi boiler the last few years with only problem being a faulty convertor valve. This was changed under the 10 year guarantee. What do you think of this particular boiler?
Brilliant boiler fit loads, diverter valve you mean 🤟
What additional kit is required to get it running purely on weather compensation mode? No sign of an outside sensor in the box - is it in the flue or something? Isn't it about time boilers used Internet data and an API to know what the outside temp is?
HI. Did you find out how can we setup the weather compnesation ? Does that sensor need to be purchaised separatly ?
@@Haik0 We installed the Viessmann Vitodens 100W system boiler - the weather comp sensor is a 17 pence 10k NTC. The four pipe system replaced everything - header tank, cylinder stat, room stat, timer, 3-port valve, circulation pump, and wiring centre. Thoroughly recommend it and the 11kW version is only £788 inc VAT!
Any news of a new heat only model as well it seems odd both baxi and vallaint miss updating there models for this market of old property types as there big issues sometimes with moving to a system variant
such a niche market, that no one really takes heat only boiler seriously anymore. My choice for heat only is still Intergas HRE
Been running this setup for years.
why would anyone want to do it and lose 90% of the system functionality and also the boiler warranty?
@@sergeydanilov do you have an NTC in your cylinder?
You can use standard s or y plan but will need vr70 or vr71
which one is this? Is it Vaillant ecoTEC Plus 832?
Since you recommend not using this boiler with third party controls, what would you recommend to use with Tado?
Tado is good for open therm compatibility boilers that lack decent controls: baxi, ideal or Intergas
@ 6:32 agree
I have an ecoTec Plus 832 combi fitted October 22 with the flap. The installer fitted the Hive Mini. Please can you explain if I would be better swapping it for a Vaillant Hive equivalent and if so what type? They never said anything at the time about it not being compliant or not good :( thank you.
Yeah - that hive needs to go. Get senso home from vaillant instead - will make your boiler much happier and your bills lower
Shame I bought an older 630 last year, oversized though could easily have got away with 18kw. The new one looks very good, do you know what price they will be selling this boiler at? Would also be interesting to see you do a video going through the new display on the boiler. Can you set heating curves like on Viessmann?
video coming soon. Yes you can set the curve on the boiler.
Good video
In Europe system boiler is really for hot water priority , you just need and cylinder sensor
Lets hope they fixed the gas valves and pcb failing.
We git that installed 3 months ago has stRted to lose pressure. I wish i got the old model.
If it’s loosing pressure that means you have a water leak somewhere in your heating system.
How does EcoTec plus compare to similar Worcester Bosch boiler?
Worcester is nowhere near the quality of Vaillant. Vaillant is years ahead of Worcester in therms of modulation, pump control, priority hot water and weather compnesation.
@@UrbanPlumbers Hi. Would you please make a video on how to set up Weather Compensation on Vaillant ecoTEC plus please?
Looks like a decent boiler, better than when I worked for them 😂😂😂😂
Honewell evo home it is ok for this boiler?
Not really. You don’t want to use 3rd party on/off controls with vaillant
Opentherm?
@@stoicarvaillant doesn’t have open therm
Looks like the V200 is still king of weather comp and modulation (2kW Viessmann vs. 2.5 kW Vaillant). Phew! Was worried we would need to change brands!
It can run pure WC, modulate to 2.5kw and has a pump with adjustable everything thanks to new linbus- DT, DP, constant speed, etc. around 250-280 parameters now.
Says alot that the newest boiler from Vaillant cannot beat the Viessmann 200 on any of the efficiency specifications! Atleast it has a curved cover ;)
@@UrbanPlumbers Definitely an improvement from Vaillant but I suspect the Viessmann V200 will still beat it on end user efficiency.
When the valiant controls are as easy to use (for the end user) as third party controls we will all switch I’m sure!!
They already are! Check new app.
@@UrbanPlumbers Can you explain what you meant when you said 3rd party apps would be "not compliant with current regulations" please..?
What boliler do you have on your wall in the back - It looks like a baxi but i’m not sure…
Gloworm
Viessmann were doing this 20 years ago!
Who is Viessmann?
Hello, what model of ecotec plus combi boiler you recommend 826 or 832 to replace vuw 242 as I am confused as vaillant web recommended 832 but any other plumber web 826, thanks
Not strictly true that it can’t or shouldn’t be used with third party controls, Tado which has eBus digital interface will modulate this boiler quite well. Are you a Vaillant Advanced installer?
I don’t even install boilers anymore ;) but yea probably still registered as advance installer.
@@UrbanPlumbers ok, it's clear now why you were pushing Vaillant controls in your video..thanks
Will 10kw heat the cylinder quick enough ,especially if it's not setup on priority hot water ?
I'm excited to wtart fitting these. Modulation on the old plus models wasnt the worst but certainly wasnt the best. Interesting about the dual outouts on PDHW too.
Will we still need to be installing the vr66/2 wiring centre as well?
Amy idea about price point?
Yes, Vr70 or Vr71 will still be needed. My supplier will sell those boilers for around £80 more than the current line
Nice. I'll be in Installer tomorrow so I'll look out for you
No need for wiring centre on my combi with the myvaillant connect unit
@ 3:30 I have rather unpleasant memories with Vaillant's motorized gas valves - at least the old models got stuck quite often...
they have only one advantage: they consume less current for modulation than the classic ones @ 1w...
Does anyone know how to turn off summer mode on Vaillant ecotec plus new model touch screen? Please help
what is hybrid configuration?
heat pump running in tandem with gas boiler
@@UrbanPlumbers You are to educated to fit pipes ..
Would anyone know, the Vailliant controls on these new Ecotec plus. Do they need external 3 pin plug power? Noticed in the video, its been clipped to the bottom of the boiler and plugged in. Is this the same for the combi?
No they don’t. It is only internet gateway that does
@UrbanPlumbers Thank you so much for your reply. Going to install the 32kw combi.
So if I understand the Internet gateway way connected via ebus will need a 3 pin plug supply, but the thermostat will be wireless with AA batteries.
No, new gateway is powered by the boiler bus now. New ebus is powerful enough on new boilers
@@UrbanPlumbers Even better! Just need to make sure I get the updated gateway. Thank you!
The best selling boiler is the ideal logic 30kw. Installed no matter the size required.
Yep, tells you all you need to know about this industry
I don't understand why you can't adjust the kw output .
If heat loss is 10 kw ,why can't be adjusted . I know you can use weather comp ,but not all customers want that .
I Co podoba ci się? Zamówiłem sobie dzisiaj - nie mogę się doczekać!
Kolega mój - Igor Chuchro - mówiłem mi ze kiedyś na treningu jakims ciebie poznał. Powodzenia!
Boiler jest spoko.
why does it need so many considerations?
I loved the old vailiant but the badge coming off when carrying was super annoying
I have one question if I may.
I spoke with Vaillant a short while ago and they said that their controls are capable and would operate perfectly well/efficiently on S plan and that PDHW wasnt required.
Is this your experience ?
Thank you
Their controls convert S plan into PDHW
@@UrbanPlumbers
This should be quite an advantage when upgrading a system from third party controls to Vaillant, as the alterations maybe purely electrical and not pipework.
Thank you for your feedback
Do You want to share Your "installation video" with us, someday? ;)
Had one fitted, had to put the temperature to 69 and the out put quite high, seems to be a bit underpowered
what your property heat loss, what temperature are the radiators designed to, what size boiler and what controls?
@@UrbanPlumbers we had a Valiant 20 years old replaced, a Valiant engineer worked ot my needs and said the smaller would do the job, it’s now working flat out with all setting on max. We just had a test and during a cold spell unable to get house up to 20c they have agreed to replace with larger model. I independent consultant said this was by no means the first.
@@dougdavis8367you haven’t asked a single question I asked you - never mind
@@UrbanPlumbers in England we do not have anything about property heat loss,. Radiators 9082 at T50, boiler the 832, what do you mean by controls?
@dougdavis8367 832 combi is big enough for houses with 20 bedrooms! Something doesn’t add up - unless you live in a castle without the roof
@ 5:48 - agree; but they should make the housings in multiple colors or at least black and white ... I had ladies who chose another brand of thermostat strictly for color ... - if they still ask a lot of money for them, it would be interesting to offer this option even for a fee…
You can run this boiler just with the internet gateway and a phone app alone. This is how I will run mine on pure WC that way.
10 kw brilliant idea, shame it's too complicated for majority of my customers to understand 😢
I’m a customer and everything is super easy to understand. There’s no reason for them to go into installer menu lol
I think not having the analogue plug in time clock for the older customer is a big mistake so simple to operate
there is a very basic analogue stat you can install with this boiler.
Isn’t that a heat line capriz heat exchanger 😂
@ 2:16 - I don't like either the previous ones or the current ones …
