Why is it such a nightmare to find a decent replacement for my ancient Sony DSC-HX30V from 2012 for recording concerts? I just want equiv or better optical zoom (20x), best video quality, fast autofocus, good ability to deal with the madness of stage lights, reasonable audio that doesn't clip into mush at loud volumes, best image stabilization and no dumb overheating/recording limits Sony RX100 VI/VII still is only up to 8x zoom Canon SX740 seems to have bad video quality/focus issues Panasonic ZS200 and Sony HX95/HX99 seem to have 15 min and 5 min recording limits at 4K Plus all of these compact cameras are about 5 years old at this point, as camera manufacturers think everyone is happy using their phones these days. It's much more annoying (for me and whoever is behind me) to record using my iPhone 14 pro max from the pit.. plus the lack of optical zoom range
If u do more video recording than taking still images, consider getting a camcorder instead. Most have better image stabilisation, have good optical zoom range.
@@Soreeyezzz I looked at one of the Sony camcorders that did 4K but that’s pretty old now too. I feel like you can get away with more with a pocket cam if there’s any issues by just saying it’s for the odd snap In the end I went with a pair of HX99, HX400V bridge cam for if I can get away with something larger (testing it today at a festival), RX100 incase it’s a small gig and I’m front row.. and Insta360 X3 Live (although bad overheating issues in dual lens 5.3K mode) Also testing the Sony ECM-XYST1M stereo mic on the HX400V today, might do better than the internals

I already bought it. Can't even put a mic on it. I have it for my vlogging. I don't know what to do. I have a smartphone and was expecting iphone style quality with this Cannon camera. Now I might have to invest in a different camera.
If anyone can chime in, how is the audio? I use my phone (iPhone 13 pro Max) but I was considering this camera to record at concerts occasionally and be able to zoom in closer without losing as much detail. I usually record 4k60 on my phone but with the distances, i usually end up dipping into the digital zoom and losing the details,so I'm assuming this camera would already be a huge advantage in that department, if I'm wrong can you correct me? But also how is the mic? Even in loud concert venues my phone does pretty well not sounding completely blown out with loud music and people yelling so I'm just wondering if you have any input on how the canon would fair. Thank you in advance if you can answer
Your phone is much better. In lower light conditions this camera will loose also a lot of detail and things become really mushy. Audio is something I have not checked for those purposes... Maybe someone can help indeed
I'd stick with your phone. You want to look for something with a microphone that has a high noise ceiling, and I doubt this'd have it like your phone. Low light performance would also be atrocious, and worse than your phone most likely.
My usual equipment is Sony A6000 (very recommended) and Canon D5100 (average). But they are not very convenient for taking out everyday in my handbag. I bought Canon PowerShot SX740 HS not long time ago and I regret already. Photos and videos are NOT CLEAR enough. Weight is light and zoom is big yes, but also means easily to be blurry when shooting, so you may need to carry a tripod (???What is the purpose to buy a light camera then???). Dark environment performance is TERRIBLE. However, if you are looking for just a very entry level camera with most functions, it maybe fits your need..
I have been using a canon powershot g7x mark i for a few years and was looking to get this camera for photography and recording at night is it worth it ?
Need something in between that is portable and has zoom for my parents. I shoot with an A7sIII but that too big for them something like this would be great. However they need something better than a phone and shooting vertical all the time.
If you are professional then you should know that judging this camera based on pics taken on auto mode is not fair, you will get great images only if you use it correctly, not like child who doesn’t know how to use it and puts it on auto.
This is true. In fact the auto mode is pretty bad on this camera. The camera has a small f stop at 3.3. Meaning it needs a lot of light to take good photos and videos. Auto mode tries to bump up the iso to compensate for this. It turns the iso so high the image looses clarity and becomes blurry. I always shoot manual with this camera so I can manually adjust iso, shutter speed, and such. With manual it can take some great photos. Video on the other hand, suffers worse from this small f stop. 1080p is not great, 4K is but only shoots at 30fps. If you want a zoom lense though you will have a small f stop. If you want great lit photos and videos then you cannot have a zoom lense. Or better, get a dslr and change lenses based on your needs!
I think I’d go with canon as straight out of camera looks a bit better when taking photos of people. But for landscapes and cityscapes then I think go with Sony

I understand the frustration. In the end it is all about the demand vs supply. Thanks for sharing!
If u do more video recording than taking still images, consider getting a camcorder instead. Most have better image stabilisation, have good optical zoom range.
@@Soreeyezzz I looked at one of the Sony camcorders that did 4K but that’s pretty old now too. I feel like you can get away with more with a pocket cam if there’s any issues by just saying it’s for the odd snap
In the end I went with a pair of HX99, HX400V bridge cam for if I can get away with something larger (testing it today at a festival), RX100 incase it’s a small gig and I’m front row.. and Insta360 X3 Live (although bad overheating issues in dual lens 5.3K mode)
Also testing the Sony ECM-XYST1M stereo mic on the HX400V today, might do better than the internals
@@Wagoo u are well equipped. I tot u were relying on just 1 camera (photo or video). 😅
are the SOOC & edited labels around the wrong way? The SOOC look much better!
Haha nope 😃
Will this work for a beginner? Both photography and video? I started doing instagram music stuff as a hobby and just looking for something to use instead of my phone. Thanks!
Yes it will work if you don’t have a smartphone with a good camera 👌
does this camera have the capacity for long exposure photos? if it does... how much time it allows? thank you so much
30 sec I believe, need to double check 👍
Is this better than the S21 Ultra phone? For video or pictures?
No, the S21 Ultra is much better
I already bought it. Can't even put a mic on it. I have it for my vlogging. I don't know what to do. I have a smartphone and was expecting iphone style quality with this Cannon camera. Now I might have to invest in a different camera.
Hope you can still return it to the store
@@GaryJahman unfortunately I can't had it for 2yrs
Yes! I used it for some of my old vlogs and tbh it SUCKS. Your iPhone front facing camera does better
This camera is nearly impossible to find. Where is everyone getting it from?
Maybe they simply don’t have it in stock 🤷
From Amazon or from Canon website
@@elisabethseeger5837 I had to get from ebay for $350 used a few months back. Everywhere I looked they wanted over $600 then. Some even asked $900

This camera's zoom is phenomenal! when I zoom with my iPhone I lose detail, this camera's zoom is one of its top features.
what sd card is recommended for this camera?
I use the Sandiisk Pro
Can this be better than iphone 14 pro max?
@@amabualrub not really honestly
I had the same experience, thank you for sharing! 👍
Did you end up finding an alternative you were happy with?
@@patrokles9 No. Too difficult for this price range.
can you transfer photos directly to pc or is it only transfer to phone
Yes of course
thanks for reply
do i need a usb cord for that?
@@moshumiahmed3162 yes the cable that came with it can be used or you can use sd card reader

this camera or canon eos 2000 d?
I think I’d go with the eos 2000 D
mine keeps adding a filter after i take pictures… how do I remove that? it makes everything softer and blur, but it looks fine before I shoot
You’ll need to turn off the smooth effect
@@GaryJahman where and how can I turn that off?
It’s true there’s no manual mode when using 4k video?

No not really to be honest 🙏
is sx70hs good for wild life photography?
In good lighting conditions and if the animal is not moving too much then it could be okay. Just don’t expect professional images 👍
Thanks for convincing me not to take any chances with this one.
You’re welcome 😇
Which smartphones you recommend instead of that camera?
iphone, samsung galaxy
No need to purchase the newest, last generations will suffice in terms of same quality
@@GaryJahman Thanks! What about compact cameras like the one on the video? Any suggestion?
@@SiegH. yeah the Sony ZV-E10 or ZV-1

can you live stream with this camera if you have a capture card?
Not sure to be honest, I haven't tried that out. Think it might be possible tho
Can I put a mic for this camera?
no there is no mic input
Can you share for me, best photo setting for outdoor shooting. Thank you in advance
Honestly that is something I do not actually have
@@GaryJahman that's okay, thank you 👌🏻😊
@@blasterjaxx88 I always shoot in manual mode and adjust the settings depending on the lighting conditions. So a simple fixed answer is not possible.
Need something in between that is portable and has zoom for my parents. I shoot with an A7sIII but that too big for them something like this would be great. However they need something better than a phone and shooting vertical all the time.
Depending if you still need some high quality if not then just to capture moments this is fine
@@GaryJahman how does it preform in lowlight? Like indoor with lamp lighting.
Thank you, thank you.... I almost buy this camera. Not what I'm looking for. Did I say thank you?
I’m not sure 😂😂
If you are professional then you should know that judging this camera based on pics taken on auto mode is not fair, you will get great images only if you use it correctly, not like child who doesn’t know how to use it and puts it on auto.
I use this as if I was somebody without any knowledge of photography, which is 99% of the targeted customer of this camera.
@@WhiskersTheFish thanks for sharing! Great stuff 👍
Sony dsc-hx 95/99 or this?
I think I’d go with canon as straight out of camera looks a bit better when taking photos of people. But for landscapes and cityscapes then I think go with Sony
Is it good for low light photo? There is no RAW, no RAW, no party 😄
Haha it's no good in low light 👍
@@GaryJahman really? Even in long exposure photo? Playing with the slowest shutter speed in the dark? I was thinking to buy this camera, but I noticed the image quality isn't really that far from my phone, while the price also has the same as my phone 😄 anyway, good review, thanks for sharing!

I work for insurance companies and I take pictures of houses inside and out. Sometimes it's dark (no electricity), and sometimes I'm on the roof taking pictures. I can't find a single review that menitones which camera would be good for this. Would this one work? To be honest, I don't need any video, and I don't need it to have the quality of the PS5 in image lol. Any advice?
haha thanks for asking. This would work as you have the built in flash. But using a phone would suffice right?
@@GaryJahman I have used my phone for several years, but unfortunately sometimes when you're on a roof, the phone will heat up and the screen is impossible to see. Not to mention it also makes it uncomfortable to hold in your when is that hot. Moreover, when you work in what I do, you also get a million calls and emails a day. So most people opt for a camera so they can relieve some of the demand off the cell phone. At the end of my work day, sometimes I have 1-2 thousand pictures to go through from all the properties inspected so ... It would be easier pulling them off a SD card than the cloud to be honest. MY MOST SERIOUS CONCERN though is that I need a camera that can snap the pictures fast so I can go back to back fast taking them. Would this one do that you think? If not, what would do the job?
