      Agreed. People forget that (along with perhaps a couple of other bands) they invented this sound.

    • @Barrsie
      @Barrsie 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. The first time I listened to it I was reading along to the story in the leaflet with the album. It sucked me in from start to finish. Securitron and Freedom or Fire were a couple of "holy shit" moments for me. The impact was huge.

    THANK YOU for reacting to Fear Factory. Hardly anyone ever does, and they are such an important band. Hopefully you'd be open to reacting to more FF songs. Some popular ones - Zero Signal, Slave Labor, Replica, Power Shifter, Dielectric, Demanufacture.

    Fear Factory. Metalcore before there was... metalcore. Burton has such a good voice.

      I saw fear factory in 2017 and I have to say Burton's voice was felt as hard as the guitar & bass drum. I can't speak to NOW but jeezus christ I felt it for sure. Also, if his voice is weaker, then it's understandable given his occupation and age. Mortality can suck a LOT as a vocalist and/or musician.

      @@TyDie85 Saw them on the Demanufacture 20th Anniversary tour in Finland and must say that Burton sounded amazing that night even his cleans were on point. And I'm sure that every vocalist has their good and bad days when touring

    For me, personally, when this album came out it was the heaviest shit I had ever heard. It redefined what "Heavy" in Heavy Metal meant to me. Also at the time I was learning to play drums and the drumming on this album blew my mind and almost made me want to quit it was so next level for the time. I've seen these guys twice, once when they were touring on this album, and a few years ago. Both times they played this and this song is that much more awesome when you can feel every note shaking your bones with those low tones. Just watching this video makes me want to see them live again!

      Hey brother so this album is where I am as a aspiring singer maybe for a band started learning about how to growl scream and then at the same time harmonize and vocalize in other parts this album blew me away I hope things worked out for you and you're smashing your dreams I got a third degree black belt in karaoke which is you know pretty sweet I go sing I just never made it big

    This was when FF started to veer into nu-metal territory. It got even more pronounced with 'Digimortal'. But back then so many bands were following that trend, like Sepultura, Machine Head and even Slayer for a bit.

    Not sure if anyone mentioned but this whole album, every song from start to finish is a storyline, each track follows the whole way, listen to it in full attention, it's almost like a comic book but in music, my old band covered this track and " Where Evil Dwells" which is on the extended version of this album

  • @DanielKling
    @DanielKling 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The whole album, Obsolete, is a fantastic piece of metal music history. It comes with a god damned story in the booklet, hehe.
    "The whole plot of the album is presented in the album booklet in the form of a movie script with the lyrics intertwined in the story itself. The prologue is the following: "2076 A.D. Everything that you believe to be true is a contradiction. Imagine a world that is suffering a slow decay, and a culture on the edge of extinction. A world in chaos brought to obedient order by the machines that man created. The linear programming that the system machine created to bring order is failing steadily due to the one variable the machines cannot compute... humanity. In this time, man has become a docile creature herded into submission under the mechanical laws that apply, programmed and desensitized for their convenience.
    However, there are certain persons drawn together for reasons that are grounds for punishment, or even death. These people long and yearn for a change within the infrastructure, a better way of life, and a logical existence. These people create factions that congregate in total secrecy in places random and unknown. These factions maintain chaos in society in order to disrupt the system, locate the weak spot, and trigger a collapsing effect. Their anger is only superseded by their will to exist, and nothing could be stronger.""

    Amazing that this is from 1998. And this is the only album they did with some "rapping"... Only because of the whole nu metal stuff during that period.
    They created that heavy growls mixed with clean chorus metal... Killswitch, All that remains, Trivium... Even alot of the screamo bands, stem from Fear Factory pretty much created that sound. This album was very different from that style though

    It's a bit of a longer song at just over 8 minutes, but seriously: try Meat Loaf - Paradise by the Dashboard Light (preferrably the official video, with subtitles). It came out in 1977, but it's always neat to go back and explore one's roots, and it still sounds... eeeh, I'd say somewhat modern, at least compared to most of its contemporaries. But it's as much a saucy rock ballad about two teenagers parked by the lake as it is a hard rock comedy skit, and just such a fun listen.

    Edgecrusher is one of their weaker songs, IMO, for pure epicness meeting heaviness, it's really hard to beat most of DEMANUFACTURE..."Demanufacture", "Self Bias Resistor", "Zero Signal", "Replica" and "New Breed" is probably the best first half of a metal disc ever made...
    ...they seemed to lose their intensity after OBSOLETE, "Shock To The System" is one hell of an album opener as well!
