- Hello everyone , here's a brief description of the Canon 5D Mark ii. This camera was a workhorse back then when it came out and was used by a lot of known photographer. I think it's glorious days have pushed us to get better and better don't you think?
Instagram: _charlesrioux_
Canon 5D Mark II is the last 5D to have the OG Canon color science that many, many people widely love.
I know many photographers who try to replicate the "OG National Geographic Canon Look" with modern mirrorless cameras, but they fail to do so.
This camera is a real charm and will stay valid until a new breakthrough in camera equipment happens- this is YEARS away.
To anyone who is watching this video because they are eyeing for the 5D2, just buy it. Its a real workhorse.
Wow such a great comment! Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Indeed the canon 5D2 had it’s own character where many young fellas won’t even know probably, it was a great era for photographers I think!
6D is the last to hava the same IQ...
@@adrianp7475not the same, 5D, 5D ii and 6D all have their own signature. All good, but distinctly different.
Bought mine today for 200$!
@@jinooot congratulations, you will love it:)
I started on an canon eos 1100 i got when i was in the army and after some years i got a used canon 1DS mk III that i stil have and love but starting to look for a bit smaler camera and a lighter camera for traveling 😊
And of course that is a good reason to buy a new camera! Smaller cameras are a bit more portable and practical but DSLR’s had a lot of grip and a better feel in the hands! Thank you for sharing!
Still use this camera as a pro have two. I do not like spending money on gear.
That’s a great way to think buddy!
Yeah, peerless full frame work horse.
Nothing like the mark ll🎥, the mirror less just crap 😜 i always use it for artistic work, or what ever, unbeatable 👍
The 5D Mark ii was released in 2008. I got mine in '09, and it was also my first professional DSLR.
There aren't many cameras like it, and the old Canon color science is fantastic in my opinion.
Shot 1500 weddings with my 5D Mark 2
Tried mirrorless and gave it back. 5 D simplistic, made me a lot of money and still use it professionally.
Why 5d mark 2 photos more live & fantastic?? When i take a pic my mirrorless camara its not live feeling about that photo but 5d mark ii its like a magic...👌🔥
I still using 5D Mark ii ❤️
Keep it running buddy 🙌
Me too... :)
05/2024 still using It, will be with me to the grave 😉👌
@@ManoXpt I have a 6D..love it, a 70D, because of the AF, and an EOS-M. I don't have much money. :) But I had a shoot last weekend. I almost always grab the 5D. I just know the camera. It now has over 126 000 pictures taken. And it will last 126 000 more. :)
Me too that camera is amazing.
I startet 3 Years ago with a canon r6 and now bought a 5d iii.
Ich love the old cameras.
5Diii is a banger! Remember doing some wildlife photography with it and portraits, such a workhorse!
My first DSLR was Canon EOS 350D and I made money out of it - photos only though. Then moved to 400D, 40D and finally 5D mk2 - first fullframe camera I got. I still remember Vincent Laforets Reverie short film that he shot with 5D mk2 and it got me sold. The other affordable video cameras were thrash compared to it. And yes, 5Dmk2 lacks all kinds of things, but it has been my back up camera still, even last year on some gigs. It is a work horse and reliable. Nowadays I shoot videos mainly with Gh6 and Gh5, but I still keep 5Dmk3 around and shoot with that too, but only stills. But just today I was thinking maybe 5D mk2 could be modified for IR-photography - it could find a new future as my IR-photography camera :D
I just bought my second 5D MKII here in July 2024!!
5d mark 2 came in September 2008. Its a daylight monster for photos
Honestly the image quality straight out of camera 24p 1080 is gorgeous. slap a 1/4 mist and my goodness. delicious. I love using rare vintage lenses with it!
Great combination there! I did the same exact thing back then and I cannot think of something better! 🙌🏼
Seeing people say they STILL use it make me smile. I have people who keep nudging me to switch to mirrorless but I’m enjoying learning the 5DMii
5Dii = GOAT imo 🤌🏼
My first digital camera was a Canon EOS 10D -D
But since I am not making my living as a photographer, I am now ona Sony A7 mark 1, thinking of going back to Canon and get a 5d II since I cant afford Sony glass and still use my canon lenes anyway.
I still use my 5D m11 in 2024. For Video it's 1080P, but you know what, that's still what most TV's, use for playback. While 4 K tv are available still most people don't have one. Unless you are shooting for theatre quality I don't see the reason to spend that kind of money. In stills I do commercial Product and Food photography for small & medium size companies.. The 22 megapixels the 5D m11 does is great for most everything I do. I would love to have a 50 megapixel model but why?
Now you can use the Magic Lantern, and record RAW video with this beast
This is my first camera and I am using it all the time. I would like to have a mark 4 but they are too expensive for me :( My only gripe is the follow focus in videos :( magic lantern is a must. game changer
Careful with the firmware of Magic Lantern, I had to change my camera because of recurrent issues with the software!
well my first camera was (and still is) canopn eos 1200D. Firstly that used to be my brothers camera but he didn't use it and i "stole" ;) it from him. That was the begining of my adventure with photography. I started taking some macro pictures using 18-55 kit lens whats was very uncomfortable experience hovewer i won a few competitions using using this setup without tripod and flash (then i used hielios 50mm lens) . After few yers i bought a sigma 105 macro lens and tripod, started taking some portraits (of people and animals) and being a photorapher on my friends events. Nowdays i'm going to buy flash, 50mm lens (then 24-70 and 80mm) and my first full frame camera wchith let me to start earning. What can i definitely say is that using only one lens realy improves creativity. btw sorry form evenually mistakes, im not from eanglish-speaking country.
Wow thank you for sharing really! This is a wonderful story and it joins the subject of why do we take photos, it’s really captivating to hear about other people’s stories! Thanks again for sharing 🙏🏼
Check out this - Brighton | 5D Mark II 3K raw with Magic Lantern !!!
Thats the title for the video. Shot on 5dm2...
I bought one recently. And its a hussle to get the raw video running. But the results are definetly interesting. People wouldnt be able to tell that its shot on a 15 year old camera, ever...
It is gonna take me some time though, to get it to look good, and tweak the right settings for the raw... Because its recorded in MLV. And then you have to convert it to something usable... But its definetly interesting...
Can anyone recommend a decent long zoom for this camera ? I have a Tamron 80-400 that is giving me dark corners.
My story is similar. I always wanted one, and now I finally have one. Bought it just a few months ago, and I couldn't be happier! Nice video, dude!💪
That’s awesome & thank you!! Following up to the video I just fixed up mine last week! Can’t wait to make a video about it! :)
@@charlesrioux nice! I'll keep an eye out for when it drops! 👊
New Subscriber !!!! Great Vid !!! I started with a Canon Rebel T3i and I still use it LOL
Thank you for the sub and the comment! T3i was a big part of my life as well I can relate !
@@charlesrioux yeah it's still a great camera for it's use, great channel my friend
Would this be a step up from the canon rebel SL2? Asking because im thinking of getting the 5d mark ii
The full frame sensor on the 5Dii will lend several benefits over SL2
@@ChrisCadenhead thanks so much 👊😎
I still use the 5D2 and a 6D...they do the job, and it's what I'm used to. :)
Really good thing you still use them, you one of the few gods out there rocking these bodies ;)
Fantastic video! I definitely felt it when you mentioned the feel of the camera. I have an R6II and R5C, and I really miss the bulky tanky feel of my old 1DX
Such an era! Took twice the space in our camera bags but jeez it was worth it!
@@charlesrioux so worth it!
real good comments
it’s still a great camera!
For sure buddy!
I just bought a mint 5D Mark II for around $300.
It’s my primary camera and I love it. Went from the t4-t7 to this and my work has definitely improved. Love this camera
I have tons of cameras and my favorite one is 5dii. With time I learned better shooting and travel still today with my first digital camera which is Canon rebel XT (350d). It has so called fat pixels and make awesome pics even on its kit lens.
Still using the 5D mark II
I use the 5D Mark II.
it gonna be my first in few days 🎉
I bought this yesterday…
You never put on pictures ?
Great remark lmao I forgot to put some in the montage but I invite you to check my instagram page @_charlesrioux_ and check out old photos before 2022. Those were mostly taken by the 5D Mark ii 🙌
good video, I too miss the shutter sound. My very first camera was a Minolta XD-11, a beast with film. Now I have a Nikon and I still miss my Canon 5D . Thank you
Ahhh good old mighty Minolta! Those were insane cameras and still are to this day!
It's not garbage and it's still a workhorse. In fact, I'm heading to Poland in January as part of the press corp to photograph the anniversary of the Auschwitz Liberation and I'm taking this with me for two reasons.
1) I know this camera and it's second nature.
2) Batter life in cold weather.
Just picked up a 5D2 with 35k frames. Colour science pisses all over my A7III
I want to pick one up, I have my Sony a7ii, but I don't know if I should buy one. I'd have it as a wedding/engagement photo camera. It'd be my secondary, probably. I love the Canon color science way more than my Sony, anyhow.
@@joshuahoggard583 Was supposed to be just an experiment buying the 5dmkii as i have the EOS 50 film camera and brought the 50mm f1.4 lens. Have just got the 24-105 f4, which is fantastic, cept the lens creep drives me nuts.. Anywho..
Great stuff! What camera did you use to film this ? 🙏
Thank you! For this video I used the Canon Eos R paired with the Atomos Ninja V 👍🏻
@@charlesrioux cool! thank you so much for sharing the info 🙏🙏 your videos all look great!
Love and respect from Japan 🙇
Thank you again! Pleasure is mine!
The 5D mark ii is going to my entry into videography, getting it off my brother in law who is in film industry and doesn't need jt right now. After seeing all these comments I am definitely hyped to be getting it. Also any tips on getting into the videography industry
that' still very capable at 30 mega pixels - but suffers now with focusing vs r6 r8 r5
Indeed! 30 is more than acceptable if you aren’t doing prints or whatever. On the other hand, R5 and all of it’s features is a banger for sure!
It depends on what you use the camera for. My 6D more or less does what I need, yes the AF is nothing fancy but it works.
mine is almost at 300k on the original shutter, bought second hand in Sweden for 200$ around 2019. Still a crazy camera, modern full frames are way out of my budget
It’s amazing how you made a video with over 10k views in only a few months, and you never showed an image or video from the camera. You basically said something that could have been summarized in 20 seconds. I still appreciate you sharing your thoughts.
I know a lot of people like the lighter smaller mirrorless cameras but I love the weight of a DSLR, it doesn't feel cheap and empty to me, my 1st DSLR was the Canon EOS Rebel T3 I still use it today 113k photos through it it wants to die if its colder then 30 or 40 F it gives me issues the SD card may not be detected it may not power on but once it's on and I have been shooting with it for a few minutes its fine I honestly think the battery and SD card main board is really worn out while the sensor PCB is still kicking.
The 5DmkII is my main camera and still holding strong after 13 years of use.
Let me ask you this…in theory, one could shoot an entire long form content (HATE the word) piece with ML Crop Mood since continuous recording? I haven’t tested the new crop mood to get continuous on anything other than 1080 8 bit 16:9
Honestly I haven’t tried magic lantern enough to answer correctly
I've had one for half a year. I love the feel and tactile experience of using the camera. But the amount of unsharp, dark and soft photos are driving me crazy.
There’s a couple of micro adjustments possible to fix that problem ;)
which lens is suitable for video production using this mark 2
Personally 16-35 or 24-70 are reaaally versatile for any type of production!
@@charlesrioux thanks much big broo
@@charlesrioux EF Sigma EX-DG series offers sharp optics.
I HAVE TWO TODAY, AWASOME MACHINE FOREVER.
Still got mine and a 7d and a 7dmk2
I have the 5D2. Still use it. Still love it.
Awesome!
Got two of 'em and love them to this day.
Awesome!! 🙌🏼
I don't understand why people overglorify old cameras, yes the 5d2 was quite a beast that had no matches during its era, but if it were trading blows with today's even entry level fullframes, it will lose by quite a big margin. 1st of all, CMOS from that age had pretty limited dynamic range comparing to today's even prosumer sensors, this is probably the major drawback for trying to use 5d2 nowadays when doing serious works.
I completely understand your point! Theses reasons you pointed out, theses imperfections are what made this camera so special back then. This is perhaps what I liked about this camera. Cameras today are insanely good but sometimes too good in my opinion. Makes me feel different in some ways about how to capture images!
5D III/IV offer great quality. Why, chase the endless upgrade syndrome?
@arricammarques1955 Because for a lot of people, it’s not about the output or the results, the hobby is in collecting gear.
@du39104 following your logic, cinema studios should not use anamorphic lenses as they make the images more “imperfect”… perfection means nothing when you film, it is the magic you are able to create with your camera, the light you use, the editing and story you tell… and the deep of field of this camera due to its full frame sensor is just amazing to create cinematic looks. Yo do not get a similar look in 4K in full frame under 3000US$ just for a body of a Blackmagic or similar. For nowadays 300US$ you can get amazing results with this Canon 5D MII.
@yoshua-robinson Actually you are reflecting my way of thinking, for a fact we actually think the same. Regarding my last comments I think it should have a second reading. I love the imperfections. I still shoot on older EF lenses most of the time.
