I liked the stock look antenna better. So many people think taking the stock things off the classics and upgrading them to new is making the vehicle better. To me it does the opposite. My problem is finding a fix for a worn out broken base for the antenna on my 63 falcon. It’s curved to fit the rounded car fender. They don’t seem to make one. I like the tricks used here to get the job done, wonder how easy it was getting that gasket back on under the dash.
The mustang antenna is ridiculously long, and can be problematic with garage doors, and even worse with trying to get a car cover on. It's just not worth it.
I don't understand how this antenna can work correctly due to it being so short. The reason the original antenna was so long was so that it could reach above the cars roof surface in order to receive the radio signal bouncing off of it. This new short stylish antenna is only going to receive the signal bouncing from the hood surface only and the roof surface signal will be wasted or lost. I saw no type of electronic gain, coil or sig boost built onto the antenna to compensate for this. This tells me that this antenna must only be just for looks as it cannot possibly function properly.
+GeorgeBonez The larger antenna was mainly for AM which was more widely used in the 60s. FM signal strength is much easier for an antenna to pick up so a 5-6 foot antenna is not needed. You may lose AM strength with this antenna but not FM.
Radio signals these days are way more powerful than they were back in the 60's. Also, FM has a shorter wave length, carries further. That's why the old school antennae were a hazard to low flying aircraft. Personally, I thing the scott drake one looks like shit, Ive kept my original but its fully lowered. I have no problem picking up radio stations with my retro sound deck. Its blue tooth, USB, and siriusXM, but it looks original.
When I found out I could pull my antenna out on my 67 like another 6 ft, I was like holy crap this is freakin awesome!!
antenna delete is the way to go IMO... they make putting car covers on a PITA
