I LOVE playing my YBR-302B bass recorder!! Compared to all other bass recorders I've tried (any price range, w/wo bocal), it has by far the best combination of physical ergonomics, rich tone, clear articulation, intonation (once you learn its fingering quirks), and a remarkably wide usable range (for a bass)! For my body (petite) and budget (ditto), it also makes a very serviceable stand-in for alto-flute parts in pit orchestra -- the transposition effort is well worth the $2000 savings in purchase price (and chiropractic bills)! I only wish Yamaha would make a plastic bass with the same matte finish as their YRA-312B alto recorder. Regarding strap, an endpin works better (at least for seated playing).
Hey man - great overview. Will be very helpful for people I’m sure; would have definitely benefitted if this was around when I got my basset! Not sure how I auto played myself to this video but was nice to listen to while I was coincidentally working on some passages on the same instrument lol. I just wanted to pop in to say if you don’t like the strap but are still using it, you might want to look into shoulder straps. I don’t know if that’s a thing for recorder but what I ended up doing was repurposing an unused camera strap so it’s being held by my left shoulder, and took the hook off the recorder strap to attach to this camera strap where the camera would attach. The part that is connected to floats on the strap so it isn’t attached at any one point and can move freely left and right up and down the strap length to get the right position. It’s a little weird to describe so now that I think of it I might make a video since I was going to do a Yamaha/Thomann comparison anyway (I don’t have a recorder channel or anything but it’s gone unused for a long time) - was mainly trying to think of what would have been helpful for me when I was trying to decide what to get but your mention of the strap is on point I think as it’s not really a great solution using the included strap for the reasons you mentioned. This camera strap though really solved the balance issues for me though with the bonus of also being way more comfortable. The camera shoulder strap I’m using is Blackrapid but probably any shoulder strap would do. Anyways, cheers and thanks for putting this video out there since I know people googling and searching will likely get some really good info from you here!
@@-vunhatgiang-1811 I have recently bought a tenor yamaha, but have difficulties sometimes with the low notes, so I figure I am not quite ready for the Bass...
Usually bad air support and air technique. I've found that it's best to open up when hitting the lower notes. All flutes are very low pressure instruments, especially when you go lower, so it takes more air to carry out the lower sounds.
The cleaning Stick makes no sense..the head of the recorder need nothing straight to be cleaned. I use a big flexible brush with a washable stocking on it. 😊

This is the internet, you are allowed to do whatever you want. And me as well.
as long as it doesn't harm others, of course
nice instrument !!
Thanks!!!
Any tips on why it’s popping up an octave when trying to play lower notes?

The keys are loud. Yamaha should improve this recorder.

Is this thing tuned to standard pitch (440 Hz)? Thanks.
