Wow, you are completely awesome! Thank you for sharing so much of your process and for the pointers. I’m an older person really just getting started in the study and practice of poetry. I can’t wait to watch your other videos!
Katie, I'm joyous at your love of sestinas. A friend turned me onto them in mid-2019. I never know what the theme is until I begin. I simply write down 6 words and begin the first stanza. By the time it's complete, THEN I know what it will be about. These poems have become like therapy because they pull out meaning and memory.
Sonam, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed the workshop and that sestinas have become important to your creative practice. I love that practice of choosing the words prior to choosing the theme; it's something I'm looking to experiment with more as well. Thanks again!
Glad you enjoyed the workshop, Ricky! And yes, a lot of the techniques for writing a sestina would apply to a villanelle, too. We actually have a workshop coming out in a couple weeks specifically on the villanelle, so stay tuned for that as well :)
Remarkably clear instructions for what at first seemed to be an incredibly complex form. You made it look easy.
Thanks, Dad! This was a tough one to plan, so I'm glad it came across well!
I found this very helpful for my high school age daughter who had to write a Sestina for school. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you so much, Matt! I'm so glad you found the workshop helpful. Best of luck for your journey into poetry! - Katie
super super helpful. This form seems so daunting at first, but I now have a first draft of my first sestina, thank you
That's so wonderful to hear! We'd love to read it if you feel like sharing.
@@IAmLoudPro would love to share, but, exciting news, it's been accepted for publication, so don't want to post it publically here.

This is such a gorgeous form. Had a lot of fun playing with it 🙂
Cool. I think I'll try these techniques on a villanelle as well.
