Katie, I'm joyous at your love of sestinas. A friend turned me onto them in mid-2019. I never know what the theme is until I begin. I simply write down 6 words and begin the first stanza. By the time it's complete, THEN I know what it will be about. These poems have become like therapy because they pull out meaning and memory.

Glad you enjoyed the workshop, Ricky! And yes, a lot of the techniques for writing a sestina would apply to a villanelle, too. We actually have a workshop coming out in a couple weeks specifically on the villanelle, so stay tuned for that as well :)
