It's good and bad, but mostly bad, at least the zombies stopped flying before the end of the video! Maybe I am too harsh, I am not sure, but we will find out in ANOTHER 3 years if I was or not. They have a decent chunk of money, and some decent talent, so at least this won't be a repeat of Identity or The Dead Linger!
Since the zombies DO WORK after September 6th's update (which is obviously a past their June 2023, then August 2023, etc delayed release date), when I say "disastrous" I am focussing on what I believe the MP experience will be mostly. The actual SP experience is now playable, there isn't really a gameplay loop there, the loot spawns probably need a bit of work, and vehicles are WAY too easy to find, and they are always fully repaired, but I will have an MP video up as soon as I CAN ACTUALLY PLAY MULTIPLAYER, maybe the title will be "I was wrong about Dead Matter"? We will see... why did I even type all these words?

MOST OF THIS was recorded around 2nd-8th of September 2023 (when I expected the game was just about to come out based off their word, which is why I made this video ahead of time), since then a few of these things have changed, the zombies DO work now, but MP has some serious issues, as expected, and the zombies are a big part of this. As well as that the school is no longer clipping with the floor, there are a few quests with function NPCs with quests too, textured NPCs that is! Other than that, everything else I displayed in this video is up to date from my knowledge, but there is a decent chance a few other smaller things are changed.
I will make an updated video tomorrow showing with the Steam EA build on MP looks like. I still do not believe their goal of making an 100+ player 240sq km open world zombie survival game is going to be possible due to pure networking technological capabilities, this being partially based on my crazy rough MP experiences so far, I hope I am wrong on this though of course. I was given permission to share NDA'd footage, and since making this video I have had a good experience with a few devs/community members, so maybe this video was A BIT too harsh, but we will save a new look on this game for tomorrow's MP video!
I completely forgot that this game existed, genuinely sad to see how it's turning out.
Who the fuck is stimpee. Sounds like asshole
(I love you.) Sings in Moans.
The goat Stimpee
You gonna cover this one boss?
I heard the lead developer was too busy with his boyfriend.
Dirty, little rust goblin has entered the chat
7+ million dollars, 7 years, and the game has actually gone backwards in development. What have they been doing for 3 years?
White powder and hookers I think
Whos got time to make a game when theyre lounging by the pool in their new mansions and racing around in their new sports cars?
Been watching this game since day 1. I literally called what your curator review was gonna say as soon as this showed it was released. I knew this was going to be a typical "Studio gets millions of dollars in funding and doesn't deliver, everything is broken, promised way too much and will be put on steam to die".
You say "here" like Kermit the frog
Hahahaa 😂
Ded Maht-ah
that's mean :(
Almost a joke. I'd be utterly embarrassed if I had this game on my resume 😂
I would delete the game for good
It doesn't seem sloppy, it is sloppy. From a modeling perspective a lot of the texture work is just a matter of making prefabs, storing and reusing them. Instead of that, they chose to texture every single wall independently. Result: same houses next to each other never got finished and they are using many times the texture resources necessary. That's not even intermediate mapping knowledge. That's rookie stuff and whoever was mapping this had no clue.
That also shows in the map and floating objects. Obviously there would have had to be a cleanup pass done on the map geometry. It's not even difficult to clean up (most of the times they could have just used tools to place their objects correctly, instead of manually), but after corrections you have to do a map bake and pack the game. I seriously wonder if this game has even been packed. The large game size speaks for all kinds of unoptimized features, starting with the waste of texture space.
To me, this is a game released - in that state - in order to avoid problems with the law. They released...something. It has the features they described, though it isn't a working game. And the NDA beforehand should be forbidden. Every game should be required to release progress in some way, instead of being able to shut down critics by bombing them with NDA. Their interest is not at stake here when they make the game they advertise. The gamers and investors interest is at stake and they are forced to watch from a sideline, until something horrendous releases. And the worst part is you already know they will be announcing a new project pretty soon. Because selling dreams is always easier than making them happen.
This is what happens when you give a group of 10 year olds couple million dollars.
They will report back after many years with a broken mess of a school project and that they have a cocaine addiction.
Psi is so right saying that the game's problem is the scope. It's trying to do so many things at once that it has no hope of being able to do. They should've worked with getting one thing functional at a time.
Even their own internal memos said this
This reminds of me the release of Infestation: Survivor Stories. The same exact problems existed in this game back in 2011.
Didn’t that game have like 3 different names ?
You mean WarZ? That’s the original name for it and it actually had decent gameplay for what it was for a while
I have like 700 hours in that game from hacking so I could esp to find snipers and sell them for irl money.
Great video lew lew! Can't wait for part 2!
Holy shit, thanks for this video. The game is like twice as much as other game in early access in the genre. This is a suicide to release the game in such a state...
This makes survive the nights look like a masterpiece
Now it's a Dead Matter
What a shame.
this looks more like a pre-alpha, insane to think this is going to be released
When you watch the KiraTV video about Dead Matter, only some will understand what happened here.
The proof is always in the money trail, take a good guess how much money cut the ceo took out of the company each month.
That's so sad bc the gameplay looks so smooth and satisfying and there is no other game this type with this gameplay. Could've been amazing
Finally the world can see what the devs had done.
The amount of Money that was embezzled is staggering.
2 Rounds of Crowd Funding
1 Cash Injection from Tencent (Unconfirmed)
3+ years in Dev.
What's insane is that I played the Alpha as I am a backer, and the Alpha somehow ran and played better than the early access. I really cannot understand how they made it worse. It's the only game I've ever backed before, and I don't think I will ever back another.
That is a lot of people's KS experience I think, I was burned for $100 with Identity, it was my first time backing a game, but because of that I don't trust strangers on the internet's words (unless maybe they have some kind of history of actually delivering) as easily now.
Saw the game update 28gb the other day and thought about giving it a shot for the first time since closed alpha was launched.. I'm sure glad I watched this first!
Been waiting on this video ever since you started talking about it on stream :')
Reminds me of shitty survival sundays
would have made more sense if you have small amounts in small citys/towns and giant numbers/hordes in citys
when the zombies ended up in the air 🤣
All of the features that dont work, or they promised and dont exist yet,,,,they work perfectly in VEIN
ehh VEIN's MP seems p laggy too, but it is free and been in development for a lot less time, so I will give them more time.
yeah be tough on em but fair they said three years in early access and that's less than dayz
similar game and early access deal just check back in two years and see if its worth it.
Thanks for the info Psi.
Thanks for checking the video out, MP is very broken, constant rubber banding, server crashing every 20m, so yeah, it's DoA unless the devs pull some of the best patches of their life from out of nowhere.
I remember playing the very first beta they put out🥴 this game is.... yeah
Even if the game did release in a decent state with no real issues and good gameplay it would probably still fail. No one is talking about this game anymore, there is no hype around it. Its ship sailed years ago
I just want to point out that I dropped money on the closed alpha as well, and the only improvement I saw from this entire video was that you could get over 4FPS walking around.
I don't understand how the game could have gotten worse from the closed alpha. The worst part is that I don't even have access to this new release version of it to be even more upset about it.
We should sue, honestly. I feel like this is a sueable offense.
reaaally want this game to succeed. Alongside the Day Before... errr "DayWorld" But if now The Day Before... Dayworld.... fails at November 10th either through Delay or not delivering... 2023 will officially be the Year in History where the Zombie Survival Genre got punched in the Nuts.
Only thing i rly like about Dead Matter is the guns. The Sounds need work... but oh well... We'll see ina year from now how much is fixed.😮💨😔
Without early access models, many amazing games we have now just wouldn't exist. Which is why I hate that so many people use it to abuse the trust and good will of gamers and use people's dreams against them for a quick cash grab.
Spaghetti code.... spaghetti code everywhere...
This is embarrassing if anything it should be illegal to release games like this it’s a kick in the teeth for all the players that backed it sad day for gaming this will pave the way for more broken promises projects best believe
my irl best friend and i have been following this game since day one and been extremely hyped for a game like this to come out. So to see it be this buggy is a definite shame. I am hoping that they can patch these issues at some point. I understand early access comes with bugs but this is beyond early access levels of bugs. The best i can hope for is that will all these players experiencing bugs we can list a bunch of stuff the devs can fix and work on i suppose. I am still hoping this game has a chance to succeed because it has all the pieces, Just needs to be properly assembled.
That's probably another 6years away so sure, I can get your game but don't give em money
@@ghostoflazlo I have no intentions of buying it until they fix pretty much everything with the game. That's pretty much where i stand right now.
it definitely won't succeed, the owner of the company is a lying bellend who claims that the game isn't in a bad state, and he's trying to silence criticism. they don't ever intend to release this game, only to string people along and leech cash from them, 3 years and they've gone backwards in progress lol.
This makes me appreciate DayZ alot more.
fr
did anyone get the 2k backer package?
As of right now even the smaller packages aren't paid out, so I'd imagine a lot of stuff has to be done to make everyone get all their perks.
Dead Matter vs Vein review please.
Also tell the story about the creators of Vein.
I just checked out the game today, will defo follow its development. I respect their "we won't charge money until the game is worth money" line (not that they have to do that), but we will see how that game turns out.
@Psi This game was on my wishlist but didn't followed it. Sad to see what happened to Dead Matter and it was a suprise for me that this game got released today. In 2022 I found Vein. I tried out it I played 2 hours on my old PC then I stopped playing it because I had FPS issues. Some weeks ago I rejoined to the Vein's community and the game made progress and nice to see. Kyle and Azi cares about the feedback and it's community. I am trying to help their work with bug reports and feedback. I just hope the best for them! I just definately suggest you to try it out but keep in mind it's a DEMO so there will be problems.
I just remembered that you arrived on the Discord server today around noon in CEST timezone. My bad. KEKW
Blows my mind how this has gotten worse over the years :( I have been there since day 1.
bruh what did they think?
The most hilarious gameplay video ever. 🤣
Johnny said he's proud... Lol.
So much potential. So many half finished, core, memorable, hyped up things from dev blogs. Just sad :/
Is this the one that Frankie did a video on a few years ago?
I believe you mean Survive the Nights? That was released a few years ago now, that game is actually pretty decent now, but just doesn't have a large playerbase. I made a video on it too somewhat recently:
th-cam.com/video/gE3l7CVEhMc/w-d-xo.html
I still had to buy it tho… I can’t even f’n lie
This is another "Dead Linger" game. Wanted lots but couldn't provide any of their road map.
In your stream right now. But just got wrapped up in this whole mess of how this game has become. Seriously baffled by release. But it’s been an exciting evening watching it all crash and burn to say the least.
Miscreated was the underrated underdog
For real, loved the world in Miscreated, just a shame the overal player controller/UIs/gunplay was a bit off.
i remember pepole on reddit saying this game will kill escape from tarkov out of all games for some reason. How the mighty fall
Bruh. You get to a zombie game where the hordes are flying in the air, no collisions activated on vehicles, half of buildings aren't textured, they messed up their landscape tilling, they messed up the procedural foliage with trees flying, there is no underwater volume, half of building still have the default unreal engine texture, they messed up their lake which is an out of the box feature of unreal, the landscape is clipping through their building, but you ask if you are being to harsh with the game?? What game???
the toilet paper king thing would have been funny around the beginning of covid but now its kind of an outdated reference, floating trees, missing textures, there is no way more than one person is working on this i just dont think collectively the team would have voted for half the crap i cant believe how late i am to find out about the release of this crap
Nightly builds are usually broken as they're built automatically each night, game can be left in a broken state during development of some feature, so showcasing a nightly build is a bad idea.
I agree, but MOST bugs I shown in this video are sitll present today on launch day. Zombies do move now, but there are 100s of other problems with the game.
Dead Linger pt. 2
O my god this game looks amazing can't wait to probably never play it
wow
Hey man, was in your stream last night, appreciate your blatant honest and all the laughs last night, it was a hoot lol.
^__^
they need to be pursuit for stealing money..it's criminal at this point !
The survival/crafting genre once again proving it's a cesspool of scams.
Man this is brutal. 8% on steam and almost every "pos" review is slamming it too. I have no idea how or why steam allowed this unacceptable mess to go though.
Survive the nights all over again
they don't playtest man. For some reason developers don't think it's a necessity, but all it would take is a 3 man QA team to iron this shit out.
I managed 7hrs streaming this...somehow. Mostly out of spite and a want to see just how bad it would be. Boy oh boy it be bad!
I've endured 15 hours of streaming it since release too lol
@Psi 15!? Are you ok? 😅
I saw loads of big streamers manage like 2hrs before giving up
@@RGBeanie I wanted to get enough experience in MP to make a decent MP focused video for tmrw hopefully.
@Psi Oh nice, I'll look out for that. I think I'll just be clipping some moments from the 7hrs into a bug compilation. So probably another 7hr video
This is a prime example of why I stopped supporting early access games 6 years ago
From what it looks like to me the animation team did a pretty good job. Haven't played the game at all. So just a little context. But the Dead Matter team severely lacked in talented programmers, and it looks like every other aspect other than animation. The top leadership just didn't care about the quality of the title. They had more than enough money to make it bug free. Just disappointed to see people give money to a developer. Then the developer just doesn't care. I'm a game and software developer. I could probably fix a shit ton of the bugs they have in that game in a month. All they needed is to get 3-4 good programmers. Give them a couple months to fix things. Then at least the people would have a bug free experience. It's beyond me how people like this can gain trust by the community and just throw it all away like that. Something is either going on behind the scenes or they lack common sense.
checkout game Vein, its made by ex devs of dead matter, in few months they made more progress than DM.
Yeah game looks decent if it truly has only been in development for a year and a half like they claim, and I commend them for not taking $ right now, although they don't have to do that, at least it doesn't feel like being decieved.
Ngl, I tried making a game at some point, and i'm confident that i could have done a better game with me, my brain and chat gpt.
With that much money founded, they could have legit out searched all the game and still made bank
I'm gonna be honest here. I played it a while ago and it looks worse now than it did a few years back at this point.
i cant believe im basically watching the same footage i saw 5 years ago or so wow... the game needs to stop focusing on adding and more working with what they already have add and polish everything then expand. i see potential but im not hopeful so glad i never backed this ill sit and wait and watch.
120gbs htf is this 120gb
they ran off with our money
So I have been a backer since 2017. I only see the alpha in my library and a price tag of 35 on the beta. Are backers really supposed to pay again after the shit show this game has been through???
No, you can claim your full key on their site.
9million dollars and this is what they give us after so much time....
9 million lol that shit took 9 million
Sucks that it sucks. DayZ needs proper competition.
It has, it's called Scum.
Nope, scum sucks.
You're aware that 'game' is off of the crysis 2 dead matter mod, right, RIGHT?
I'm not really sure what you are saying, but yes I am aware that "Dead Matter" was originally a Crysis 2 mod, he actually contacted me regarding it back in 2012:
twitter.com/PsiSyn/status/277951858381815808
Yo appreciate the honest review, wild that this game came out of nowhere like this and it's so shit wtf is going on in the games industry. The shit with unity is cracked too would love a video about your opinion on that too just like your content Lewis haven't tuned into your stream in forever my bad. Thanks for the video again.
Definitely need a class action lawsuit to get all of our money back. Pay for gold and get trash. Pipe dream to think they will fix it
this game was a dead matter to me and they took my money on their indiegogo shit so now i know better to wait for releases.
I swear the first alpha was in way better shape than this early access release. LOL
They went backwards :|
Another Survive the Nights...
9:57 that is exactly my take. Big disappointment
The TOILET PAPER KING IS THE BEST PART OF THE GAME. YOU GET TOILET PAPER!!!!!!
How depressing
I played day 1 of closed alpha, how is it the game looks WORSE now than it did then? 😂😅😂😂😂
There is no hope that this game will recover like No Man's Sky did. Hello Games knew they fucked up and accepted the criticism and listened to player complaints.
QIS blatantly denies that Dead Matter is a piece of shit and bans any player that complains.
The game has literally gone backwards in development in the 3 years of closed alpha. I played it when it released in closed alpha day 1 and it performed better than it does now.
Kinda reminds me of dead linger lol
I mean Dead Matter is the only other open world zombie survival game that I know of off the top of my head that has been funded thru Kickstarter, except this game has raised like 20-30x more money lol. It's defo not as bad as The Dead Linger, but I don't see how their goals can be achieved, ignoring the terrible start this game has faced.
EDIT: Sorry, Survive the Nights was thru Kickstarter too, but at least they kept up development with that game and tried to fulfill their vision. It's just not for me, or anyone else judging by how things have gone with that game. Early gameplay shown so much promise too.
Zombies
Anyone who says this is a good game is trolling.
Vein is more fleshed out and playable than this trash, and Vein is being made in the spare time of the good devs that left this game.
i don’t understand HOW IT CAN BE THIS BAD… lets be honest you guys remember the first versions? They got scraped and tbh those version where allot better… i don’t understand gow they fuck it up like this
Guys what happened
idk
The sad reality is that many developers on the game ARE very talented, but it just does not come together and it was managed horribly.
Yep.
and people thought dayz was a cash grab lmfao
Somehow worse than when Survive the Nights came out
Has anyone looked into whether the assets such as the houses and vehicles are bought assets? that seems to be a very tell-tale sign of a scam game.
I am p sure 90% of assets are original, if that was not the case, you know some detective would have called it out earlier. Someone did say some kitchen assets and stuff were bought, but who cares about that tbh.
Maybe the game will be better in another 7 years 😊😂
Lewin make viddo on new Deadside 0.7.0 update it is epic and also ARMA Reforger DayZ has had more updates and also Taviana the Origins is out soon:tm: !! ! !1 !
Eh, Deadside's map is just so big with 50 player max or whatever it is, and too many AI, I might try it again though... seems like a game that is just guna die with time at this point.
@@Psi yeah it's good with a group and it's more a PVP game with survival elements than a survival game that's PVP, it doesn't really replace ARMA 2 DayZ for me but then again nothing ever has
These clowns timed me out in the discord for 6 days for giving constructive criticism 💀
This game is a crime
7dts was bad when it first come out ,,,, it took a while ,,,, they wanted to hold it for a 3 more year cos it wasn't ready ,, but people moaned ,, in turn led to a big moan lol
