Some can easily poke fun at Frusciante, obviously, because 99% of what he says goes over 99% of people's heads and is gone. But the way he articulates himself and explains the way he sees the world and creativity is that of a truly metaphysical, eloquent, imaginative, spiritual and brilliant genius.

I agree with you. For decades I thought he was a horrible speaker and I attributed that to drug use and that we would never recover those parts of his mind. I haven't heard this interview in 6-7 years and now listening today... I think he's totally fine! He stutters because he's thinking faster than he can talk. Once he's on a roll, you can really hear that he actually speaks pretty normally. And I can follow along!

I could listen to him talk all day, he has no ego, when you see other interviews with music icons they are all about the ego. I love John Frusciante. I’m young, but have been listening to Chili Peppers every since I found my preference and music taste as a kid. I’ve always been a fan of his work, however after listening to his solo stuff and songs with Josh Klinghoffer, specifically Shadows Collide with People, the word inspiration is an understatement. This man understands music wholeheartedly. As a musician myself, he explains it in such an elegant way that makes me feel able to write beautiful music. Although I’ve never completely been able to, how John explains it makes me feel one step closer to understanding what it takes to. Thank you John Frusciante.

He meanders a bit, but I like the fact that he's not running away from any difficult questions, ideas or topics. He is making a sincere, honest attempt to communicate how he sees things, what he values, what drives him to create, and so forth. He is absolutely right in saying that the whole "star" trip is beside the point for someone who really loves music. Unfortunately, business types will only take you seriously, and make the effort to get your music out to the masses, if they can find a packaging and distribution angle. What he's really describing is how the left brain interacts with the right brain, how technicians interact with romanticists, how the spiritual world interacts with the physical world, and so forth. People who are fascinated by this line of inquiry (and the nature of duality) would do well to read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance".

i love his openness in this interview, a lot of people would probably think its pretentious but i think if youre a creative person you can relate to what he's talking about

I freaking love John Frusciante and we wont ever understand where he comes from unless we’ve been in his shoes. I love that him being in my eyes one of the best guitarists is from my home town. Yea he moved to south Florida with his parents and than to California but he’s a Queens NY native and that to me gives me a deeper love for him. I followed RHCP across Europe in the by the way tour and slane castle Ireland was one for the books

Definitely the smell of chocolate is an excellent example of something tangible to be sensed. He needn't have changed his analogy. I grew up in a town that had a Cadbury's factory and when I was a kid we always wound down the windows of the car as we drove past. Intense. I can feel the place in my nose where it would almost overload my senses.

This is a beautiful and inspiring stream of consciousness. As a social worker, I see a lot in humanity that ranges from ugly and destructive to beautiful and peaceful. Sometimes the destruction is beautiful and sometimes the beauty is destructive. I try and make sense of these larger concepts all the time and it's interesting that I always connected with the Peppers. After watching this, and reading Flea's book, it makes sense that I connected with them.
I think this entire chat sort of shows a glimpse into the processes and reasoning that John used to pull himself from the depths of hell to find meaning and connectedness amidst the uncertainty of the universes. What a beautiful human.

Such a humble guy, he's inspired me to the hilt. I grew up playing punk. That's still my go to music but i go to RHCP to escape. I guess that's the hippy in me. I wish every band members could be this chill.

His artistic integrity will always remain in tact; that’s an important example for any artist in this world - create from your imagination and forget material rewards. Money will always spoil what you do (my paraphrasing).

The things he says after 11:00 remind me of Kurt Cobain feeling drained and hating himself for the jumping on stage he got himself into doing.
Always such a pleasure and inspiration to hear John speak, he's such a loveable soul and the way he is in touch with his inner child is really beauty in a harsh world.

when i feel spiritual i always come back to this video. as a musician and especially as a guitarist its just amazing to have john frusciante to share these thoughts. he is one of the greatest musicians ever to walk this earth.. all of the greatest they understood that the music is there in the universe and they just connect to this energy and deliver it through their music .. the fact he shares this view shows. he belongs to the masters of music. of course he didnt need to say that for people to feel it. his songs already show it. but still its really nice. hes my idol i play guitar because of him and he pushes me to always keep playing and reach new levels of music language. i am grateful for john fucking frusciante
