I truly admire Saudi Arabia’s diverse cultural heritage. It’s encouraging to see progress-particularly for women-and the growing support for creative ventures. However, authentic art thrives on genuine freedom of thought and expression. When too much emphasis is placed on a polished, idealized image, it can overlook deeper or more challenging realities that art is meant to explore.
I respect the resources and enthusiasm behind these projects, yet having money or official backing doesn’t automatically guarantee true artistic depth. As painter Alejandro Obregón once said, “in art, it is not enough to be good, or even excellent; one must reach for the improbable.” I hope Saudi artists continue to expand their creative horizons and share the full depth of their culture with the world one day soon.
