It's crazy to see the parallels between the plague outbreak and our current situation. It came from China, funerals were banned but churchgoing was okay. Ill and healthy family members quarantined together. It's so weird that you would think Georgia had filmed this yesterday haha!
Also, Georgia's excellent research skill and her clear passion for history really makes these videos so interesting and immersive to watch. If only my old history teachers were so engaging (or intelligent lol).
Thanks for the binge Georgia! Please keep it up 🙏😍

My favorite disease is the flu epidemic of 1918 in America. My great grandmother had 12 siblings and after flu swept through their house, she had 6. She was 10 and barely survived. The stories she told my grandmother about it were horrifying (she died at age 105 btw)

that's really interesting to think about how far back history goes in the UK. Canadian history only goes back maybe 200 years, other than aboriginal history of course, but that needs to be studied mostly via archaeology & such. We don't know many details or stories in the same depth that London has.

Its so weird to hear other versions of Ring Around the Rosie lol. In the US (at least the southern US), we sing

    Ashes! Ashes!
    We all fall down!

    • @dellahicks7231
      @dellahicks7231 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

And where I live in Canada Kate, we replaced 'Ashes' with 'Husha Husha, we all fall down'.

I've been sooo fascinated by the plague ever since I was like 10 years old! In my classroom we had a timeline spanning from the stone age to modern times set up on the wall, and at the 14th century mark there was a rat, and a text that read "the black death". And I would always just sit and stare at it haha

Amazing video! ❣️ If you’re into this I highly recommend you cover the Great Famine, not a disease of people but a blight over the potatoes in Ireland which ended up killing 1 million (due to a high dependency on the crop and extreme subdivision of land) and caused a further 2+ million to emigrate. The population of Ireland has never reached the pre-Famine levels even to this day, which is similar to what you said about the butterfly effect! There’s also a lot of interesting conspiracy surrounding it, some see it as a tragedy and some see it as genocide at the hands of the government but either way it is such a sad yet fascinating story that a lot of people don’t know about and I would love to see you cover it! x

I totally know what you mean about having a "favourite" disease, as weird as it sounds! Mine has always been Ebola - just so fascinating and terrifying. The plague (black death) is a close second.

Mine is also the plague. When I was a little girl I would get my mum to read about the plague as my bedtime stories. Loved this episode. Can't wait to hear about the great fire of London next.

I've never been asked what my favourite disease is before and I have a answer! Whilst I do like plauges I also find influenza super fascinating, I think I like things that were devastating in the past but fairly easy to fight off in todays world.

My favorite disease is probably the Yellow Fever outbreak of 1793 in Philadelphia thanks to the book Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson

I love reading and studying different diseases. Science and Biology were the only two classes I excelled in. Thanks for doing this lesson. My favorite disease is Ebola. There is a book about Ebola called The Hot Zone by Richard Preston.

that book started my fascination with the plague as well, it's such a good book ! And now I'm trapped in a hole of hyperfixiation on the black death, especially the history of London in 1665

Fun fact - the district line isn’t in a straight line because lying behind the walls of every station on that line lie the remains of so many Plague victims

every once in a while here in the american west they find a prairie dog or mouse with the plague, it's on the news and it always makes me cringe! To think what that plague is and it's history-sends chills up my spine!
