He could've, but then he would've lost the benefit of having a crewmate on his side. If you gain the trust of enough crewmates, your chances of being seen as suspicious are low. Which is what happened until slime ended up killing macro
Honestly the more egregious accusation is that Condi "ruined" Slimes chances of winning by calling the sabotage early. Slime was under the (incorrect) impression that he only needed one more kill to win, so the second he killed Macro and then got Typho voted out he was doomed, as the next meeting called would have ended the way it does in the video.
As I grew up, doing a deep or scary voice became more and more cringe to me, but that "I was doing wires" bit at the start genuinely shook me to my core.
