  • In this video, Louai shows you how to replace a Cerushield wax filter on a Phonak Audeo (Marvel, Paradise or Lumity) or Unitron Moxi (Discover, Discover Next or Blu) hearing aid.
You will require your hearing aid and a cerushield disk. Please note this only applies to the above hearing aids fit with domes. If your hearing aid has an earmould, you will likely have a different wax filter system - please speak to your audiologist for further details.

I have worn hearing aids for the last 6 months.. I started out with the lyric.. I absolutely LOVED the sound quality for the 3 months that I was lucky to have them, but unfortunately wasn't a candidate in the end. I then tried IIC hearing aids and hated the sound quality.. I now have the phonak audeo lumity and loved how they sounded until I started having a feedback issue, then my audiologist applied the feedback cancelation and they now sound awful when they get tinny with a lot of tones,(like an oven going off or carder beeping, etc..) or when I'm singing/playing piano, even in the music setting and I can't stand it... What my audiologist did was trying to reduce the high frequency gain which hasn't helped.. He asked me to try experimenting with changing setting on my own to see if there's anything that I liked and monitor it this week before going back.. No luck with that.. Any ideas of what to do?? HELP!!!!! I do like the RIC type.. so unfortunately I think I’m past my trial period so not sure if I can change them out :(.. I’ve also tried the resounds had no luck with those (although they were just fitted poorly and I had wrong domes at first which was probably why…) but my audiologist told me that the lumity devices are great devices,.. (which they were until now before having the whole feedback issue).. the feedback test helped resolve the feedback, but its only as I was stating before, its the issue with the sound quality and that it was sounding tinny and stuff with certain pitches or tones,.. and I also liked how they had a built in music setting in the app, which the resounds didn’t though,.. my hearing loss is a flat moderate hearing loss.. what devices and components in particular would you recommend for this?

Hi Kayla, thanks for your comment. Did the feedback issue arts suddenly, or only after you'd had an adjustment made? Feedback issues that start suddenly without any hearing aid adjustments having been made tend to be due to a build-up of earwax or an insertion issue. If it started up after an adjustment, I would look at a couple of things:
      1. Have you had real ear measurements performed on your hearing aids? This is a grerat objective way to testing what the hearing aids are doing in your ears - are you getting enough/too much volume at certain frequencies?
      2. What kind of dome (ear piece) your hearing aid has been fitted with - is this appropriate? Could you do better with an earmould?
      3. What setting is the feedback manager on? Phonak have a great (but agressive) feedback manager. Sometimes, having this on too strong can cause issues with sound quality as well.
      Good luck!

@@ValueHearing well, so it was fine at first but started after having my receivers replaced with shorter ones but im assuming it was because of the way the domes sits in my ears, even though they’re the right size, it’s probably not the right shape.. was mainly only going on in the right one,.. they ran the feedback test and did the REM’s again but I still get the tinny problem, they also tried to lower the feedback management but didn’t help either,.. so when my next resort is going with the cshell molds and having them reset the devices from there.. my hearing loss is a flat moderate hearing loss,.. I have vented domes at the moment but getting the molds made

In my experience this works about 19 times out of 20. Every now and then the old filter refuses to pop out...
What's the best way to remove the old filter when this happens?

Here's an older video we published on how to push the old wax filter back into place: th-cam.com/video/UlMFMbkmG18/w-d-xo.html
