    Great video, thank you very much. I fumbled my way through importing the JSON file, never done that before. When I uploaded the GP theme, it's the whole zip file, but with this author box, it's just the JSON file within the zip file. Learned something today! Hopefully I did that right :)
    How do you get the drop-down arrows for your blocks when you search for a block? At the 2:42 mark, Layout Elements, Widgets, etc. Mine just has a button at the bottom that says "Browse All".

    Thanks Mike, nice little tut. Do you know whether GenerateBlocks can inherit the color pallette from GeneratePress.

    • @MikeOliverDesign
      @MikeOliverDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ant, no it can't, possibly soon though. There is a PHP snippet you can use just like you do for GeneratePress to customize the GenerateBlocks color palette. Here is a link to the support doc with the PHP snippets to customize both color palettes… generatepress.com/forums/topic/customizing-generateblocks-color-palette/

      I've found that it can now. Set your colors in the Customizer, then add the relevant class to your block element. For example, buttons. If your button colors/styling is set in the Customizer, then you would add the class 'button' to the GB button under the Advanced tab in the button's block editor settings and make sure all other/pre-set colors and settings are cleared from the button's block settings. Now your colors and other stylings for buttons set in the Customizer will be applied to the GB button. And if you want to override the colors, etc, for any one particular button, you can do that by changing the color in the button's block setting. GB didn't always work this way, but I just tried it this evening and it works!

      @@PaulRacko2 Great point Peter, I have a feeling there will be more GP/GB color integration soon

    Where did you make the "About the author" section? You imported a ready-made one in the video and then edited it

    • @MikeOliverDesign
      @MikeOliverDesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a block element, there is a link below the video to download the json file.

      @@MikeOliverDesign you imported this file through the plugin - JSON Content Importer?

    • @MikeOliverDesign
      @MikeOliverDesign  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheSavoElite you would import it into the reusable block section of the block editor.

      @TheSavoElite 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MikeOliverDesign Very strange, but I do not have such a function in my block editor on generatepress pro as you have in the video. Maybe I should create a post and make such a block that way.

    Mike, can you build a header that includes logo and 720x90 banner with menu bar below it with this? Great video BTW. Thanks.

    • @MikeOliverDesign
      @MikeOliverDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dan, sorry I missed this… I don't see why not, you could place the ad in a container block and then use a block element and hook it between the logo and navigation. I'd have to try it out but I'm guessing you would use either the after_logo or after_header_content hook.

    • @TheDanLovallo

      Thanks, Mike. I will give it a try.

    So these block elements are sort of "reusable blocks" that can be implemented outside the main content area, unlike the usual Gutenberg reusable blocks? Is that a fair description?

    • @MikeOliverDesign
      @MikeOliverDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, you would edit them in the Elements area and hook them where you want them to show up on your site.

  • @DavePerth
    @DavePerth 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks Mike, I've been playing around with this and it is really powerful - one obvious thing I would like to see is how you would suggest pulling in the author's info (image,name,bio) from the user's info for each blog post ?

    • @MikeOliverDesign
      @MikeOliverDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a good question, I would think you need a custom post type block.

      @@MikeOliverDesign Great video. Dave, We could hook the author bio code (see link below) to generate_after-content hook or generate_before-comments_container hook. Then ensure that Execute PHP is ticked.

      @@MikeOliverDesign Hi Mike great vid, and how would one go about creating a Custom Post Type Block?

    • @MikeOliverDesign
      @MikeOliverDesign  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Glanville I haven’t tried them but I’ve seen some custom post type blocks. I would also check out Vjay’s link above. Talking with David at GP they may include post meta and custom field tags in a future version of GenerateBlocks.
