Dr Anadale, as a practicing attorney, this is so reminiscent of the dreaded law school, your presentations are so very clear and spot on, when i compare to the text. " the goodness of being a victor is outweighed by the badness of being a victim" etc. This is justice, straight out of social contract theory, yes, AND the risk/reward analogy so often used in the law in economics approach. Your restatements are wonderful. Thanks again dallas ryle atlanta
I have a background in science and have recently taken an interest in philosophy and Plato's republic is book I started with and I have to admit more then half of the time I don't know what is going on and also the English is a bit hard to understand . I have to read the same sentence a couple of times to understand it and then I move on to the next page , by the time I am done with this new page I don't remember what I understood in the previous page. I thank you sir for your efforts it's a big help.
You can think of the book as multiple people giving their conflicting opinions on what justice is and what the just society would look like So don't expect one page to support the next in the same way that in a conversation on justice one speaker doesn't support the next but rather all are tied to the same subject of justice
to complete an ardous goal, there must be a carrot at the end of the stick and something pleasurable about the process in order to maintain focus. a strong why--> a strong will + enjoyment of the self in the betterment process = consistent incremental progress
For the Natural origin of Justice did you mean 358 e-359c? I am self studying philosophy as a high school student and could not find that section (258e) in the book

Your videos analyzing book 2 of the Republic has been helpful. I still think you should throw more light on the example of Mother Teresa and Hitler.

You're right, the card on the screen is mistaken. It's 358, not 258. Thanks for pointing that out!
Christopher Anadale thank you ❤️
Hi! Non-philosophy student here, just wondering what ou mean by 358e-359c? I'm not familiar with the nomenclature. Thanks in advance!

@@ChristopherAnadale thank you :)
I don't remember the details but I remember reading somewhere that Mother Terese actually did some pretty fucked things.
What's your personal criticism of Glaucon's points and ideas? What would the interpretation be? Do you agree with his idea? Why or why not?
Andy S dude WTF. That is literally an exam question.
