You can also cut a 2-1/2 to 4" long piece of the nearest size PVC pipe you probably have laying around. Use a heat gun or stove burner to soften it, then mold it up to 1/4" smaller and 1/4 larger. Works great, no clamps needed, slip them in like any vacuum cleaner socket, hose, or nozzle. It's way easier than it sounds!
Thank you! I own almost all Ryobi tools. Been a nightmare trying to find a hose adapter that works. This is pure genius. I'm excited to not have sawdust everywhere.
The 2" x 2" flexible coupling works great for joining the ends of shop vacuum hoses and similar sized fittings like the Rockler power tool hose kits. Most shop vacuum hoses have 2-1/4" diameter ends regardless of the size of the hose itself. The O.D. of 2" pipe is 2-3/8" so it takes very little to squeeze it to the 2-1/4" ends of the hose.

Hey Spencley, thanks for taking the time and effort to product this great video tutorial on the use of PVC adapters the connect tools to the shop vac. Great idea!

I've never been so happy about buying something in my life. Had bought $30 worth of connectors from DeWalt and still couldn't connect my DeWalt sander to my Ridgid vacuum. This cost me $4 and works PERFECTP
Unfortunately it seems really hard to find a flexible PVC for 2 1/2 hose to 1 1/4. I want to connect my ridgid NXT vac to things like my ryobi orbital sander. Any ideas?
They make these flexible downsize and upsize adapters and all sizes. I know you can get ones that have a small as an inch on one end. Off the top of my head I’m not sure if they make ones that do that big of a jump. If you don’t you might just have to put a small part of hard PVC pipe in between each adapter
@@christinapiacenza7244 no unfortunately the 2 I tried the inside diameter is like a mm too small. It's frustrating. I just ended up keeping my old crappy vacuum w the 1 1/4 and use my newer better one for my table saw and bigger tools.
My table saw has a 2.5" vacuum nozzle and my collection system has a 1.5" nozzle and I can't find one that goes from those two measurements. What I found was a 1.5-2 and a 2-3. Would the 3" flexible one work with a 2.5" nozzle?
Good question! It will depend on the specific hose clamp you have, but it should be around 1/4” to 3/8”. You can also just use a screwdriver since most of them have that capability as well
Hi just came across your you tube channel and have to say fantastic idea to an ackward solution.I have the same Ryobi belt sander and was wondering the size of pvc adapter to order I am thinking 50mm to 40mm would this be correct.Any answer greatly appreciated thanks
Awesome! I’m glad you found it helpful! There are various levels of filtration. You could start with a cheap shop vac with a HEPA filter or you could go all the way up to something like a festool dust extractor. I don’t know enough about your particular situation to be able to make a good recommendation for you.
I think your best solution there would be some duct tape or perhaps a Velcro strap. I don’t think I’ve ever personally seen any sort of attachment to hold a dust hose on a drill
Can you please tell me what size I need for a Dewalt Shop-Vac with a hose diameter of 1 7/8", I'm new to this and I'm trying to figure it out. This seems to be the solution for me. Thanks SO much!
@@SpencleyDesignCo ah it's the one where you can use it for toxic or carcinogenic dust. I want to use a sander to sand very old paint that may or may not have lead in it and I don't want to breathe it in. I'll ask the manufacturer! L-class is for household waste, M-class is for commercial projects and concrete dust etc, H-class is for toxic stuff and some h-class vacuums will be ok with eg asbestos.
I’ve gotta ask, do you live outside the United States? I’ve never heard anyone talk about classes of vacuums and assumed maybe it was a European thing?
I just got a new digital flyer from Rockler and they have a new system for their small port adapters that do the same thing. Maybe a bit more expensive, but also cleaner looking. Just an idea. Loving your videos, but missing Miranda lately. Happy New Year! All the best for the coming year!
