The birds were alerting to something new, Spruce. The turkeys are the protectors and the guineas look to them. I love the interaction between them. Those turkeys will probably be good protection when they get big. Be careful if you have Spruce with you for awhile. I loved how he just ignored them. These birds all seem very smart. I think they will venture farther away from the safe place as they get more used to being out. Maybe you can practice calling them as you put them in. That way, if they are farther away, they will know to come. Maybe use simple word(s) to call Like "bird, bird" or "turk turk" Good Luck. You guys are doing great!
Spruce is so loyal and hangs out around you two. He must see you two as his parents.

I think the turkey are protecting that's why they puff up like that. They would run at you and kick you if they attack you. Thats my thoughts. 😊😂❤😊

Maybe put Spruce's food into his dish before you let him out that way you don"t have to fight with him in the food bin.

😂 you two are so funny around your birds. The turkeys love to show off for you and the gunnies trust you that's why they fly towards you. Just relax around the birds and enjoy them. I have raised both and love them all.

Shannon, if you'd carry a flat board about 2 ft long you can use it as a barrier if a turkey attacks. We had an aggressive rooster, and it worked well with him. If he got too aggressive I smacked him in the chest, but usually just placing the board between us worked. Ironically, his name was Pal, lol! When our gander tried to attack I just grabbed him by the neck, turned him around, and gave him a push. He'd run off complaining, but left me alone.
I have an extra-large dog harness to move my ornery goats around. It's adjustable, so I can use it on several different sized goats.
No horn grabing involved.
We have had a few people at our church get Alpha gal due to ticks. So many ticks this year. 💕🙏🏼
I love your reactions with your birds! Guinea fowl are awesome creatures to watch! My neighbors used to laugh at me for sitting on our well cover (big cement thing) and watching me "talk" to my guineas, fancy chickens, ducks and Geese! I kept my turkeys caged, but the rest free-range. Best time of my life!!!
Shannon, the next time there is a wasp around and Kyle is a little "skittish", tell him if it stings him, it will only hurt for a second. You take care of the wasps for him.

That Alphagal you got from a Tick bite, that's carried by the Lone Star Tick. They are more prevalent in the Southern regions of Country. Here in the Northeast we have to worry more about Lyme disease if we get bit by an infected Tick.
Kyle, I have you in my prayers every day to beat the tick allergy. Harry and Larry are really growing, and of course Spruce is a happy goatie, that makes me smile. Never a dull moment on a farm. I remember the 18 years as I grew up on a farm. We didn't have goats, and that would have been fun. Milked cows(electric machine),
fed pigs and chickens.
How turkeys show a positive temperament/ mood They create long-lasting social bonds with each other and with humans. Turkeys love to be stroked, petted and cuddled. They will remember your face and if they like you, they will come up to you to greet you. Turkeys also love music and will cluck along with the songs.
Growing up I had a brown turkey hen named Calamity Jane. She was so clumsy! When she was little she sat in my lap while I petted and loved on her. When she got too big to sit in my lap, I would sit on a bucket and she would get as close as she could between my knees. She would lay her head on my arm so I could wrap my arms around her. She was so sweet. ❤️

Some of the chirping by the guinies is warning sounds. They've never seen a Spruce before.😮
When the Tom turkeys puff up & come towards you reach down & pet it on the head or back. As by experience, I've found out that it takes the fight or dominance out of them. My tom loves it.
On Walker farm Family their turkey Tom Henry was starting to chase their 5 yr. Old son. They used a water blaster, like a big squirt gun, and sprayed the turkey only when it chased Ransom. It worked the turkey stopped chasing him. Just an idea to share for Shannon.
Now when you get your chickens you need to get a guard goose to raise up with the chickens so they know he's (or shes) the protector. Hawk's don't usually go for chickens if a bigger bird is with the m

Matt had trees come down right in front of his garage/front of house. Your dad and mom brought the pups in it was so bad there. Good thing it came down with storm and nothing was in its path!
I can’t believe how big their horns are getting! You can check the ligaments in Mama’s tail or along the sides of her tail. If they are all loose and relaxed that means she’s getting real close! Also check her bag and if it has really popped it could mean she’s close. Keep a close eye on that bag, do a bag check/comparison daily on Mama. Herc works hard all night long!
Those turkeys are just showing their dominance. When their waddle gets red that means they are mad, feet too. You can pick them up and burp them. Love y’all very much! God Bless and be safe out there!

My late husband and our sons took some trees down in our yard and I was shocked at the sheer size of a tree that was live and well but it was in the worst location in our yard. They were bringing it down and it came down the wrong way and it cracked the edge of my driveway!!! Mama was not happy! But so thankful that everyone was ok. But the size of that tree was shocking from our point of view now that it was on the ground. It actually stirred up emotion and caused me to cry. All I could say was thank you God that nobody was injured! So that’s what I say to you guys, I’m so happy nobody was injured!
I don’t know about you guys but I kinda enjoy listening to those Guineas. I’ve noticed that one of your turkeys is a male. Perhaps the females are coming in season??!!

have you thought about putting the feed buckets between the haystack and the nursery pen and maybe fencing off the area so spruce can't get in there while you get feed and pass the scoops over the fence to the other for feeding?

Did you know their horns are actually just a sheath & you can actually pull them off by accident? (Over time that is & you'd it would likely be a damaged horn not a strong healthy one or two.) She may have an injury underneath one of them & that may be why she's so sensitive. The horn's outer layer is mostly insensitive to pain. But the bone underneath houses blood vessels, tissue, & nerves. She may have some nerve damage. So glad to see everyone coming together so nicely for y'all!! You work hard & deserve it. ❤ Spruce is my spirit animal 🥷
Your turkeys are getting older now and they are " Showing Off" their plumage, just like a male peacock does! When they drag their wing feathers on the ground, they call it drumming. They are just showing off but when you move away, be assured they are going to follow you !
Just wait till you hear this Guinea song before you want to wake up and then ALL DAY!!! They can imitate being helicopters when in danger which is incredible to watch! A coyote was on one and then we checked on it, it was in the tree above the coyote in an instant!! And then the Guinea song was on and on and on again!

Well, let you took the debate away about the tree. It was a nice shade tree, but mother nature had other ideas.😂 And watching spruce with the bird heard that’s quite interesting. Very interesting. He’s definitely a character and we love him very much.❤❤❤❤❤

I raise guineas and you can let them all out they will stay with the turkeys and stay close to the pen for now. They will get braver and start to wander but should come back to the pen to roost.❤️👵🏻

FYI: Per Google, Males will puff out their feathers, fan their tails, and "strut their stuff" while gobbling and making other vocalizations. This behavior is common during the breeding season and other times of year when turkeys are establishing social dominance or status within the flock.

Those two white turkeys have been doing that puffing out thing ever since you brought them home (which was TOO CUTE by the way!) I'd be surprised if they aren't males. Things are looking promising so far with them and the guineas sticking around!! Spruce was a good boy around the birds.
