How to Save Ranunculus Corms // Digging, Dividing, and Storing Ranunculus Corms

  • Learn how to dig, divide, and store ranunculus corms in this video tutorial. Generally, gardeners in zone 6b and colder should dig and store the corms. Although the leaves can handle frost, the corms and roots cannot experience a freeze/thaw cycle. Additionally, the corms may rot if they sit in wet, cold soil over the winter. Once the plants turn brown dig up the corms and cut off the dead foliage. Place the corms in a seed tray or crate and allow them to dry for a few days. If ranunculus corms are moist or wet during storage, they may succumb to mold or rot. Once the corms are dry place them into mesh bags. Label the bags with the variety name and store them in a dry, dark, cool location until the following year. A basement is the ideal storage location. However, any room that doesn't experience freezing temperatures or excessive heat and humidity will be fine. In the late winter, bring the corms out of storage and start the pre-sprouting process again!

    Hi Danielle, I liked how you used your grandma's trowel to dig up the ranunculus corms. You really do keep her memory and spirit alive when you are in your garden. Thank you for the tutorial on digging and storing the corms. It is very much appreciated. I absolutely love ranunculus and will try growing some in late winter. 😍

    Very useful info. I bought but didn’t plant ranunculus corms this year. They looked so dried out…but it sounds like that’s the way they were supposed to be!

    Hi Danielle. I’ve watched a video where the gardener mentioned that corms are only viable for 2 years and they stop flowering. Has this been your experience too?

    How many corms did you have planted to produce that many flowers? It did not seem like you put many in that bag. I was wondering if that was all that you had for that flower bed or was that just the amount you did for the video. Just basically curious how many you would’ve had in that flower bed.

    Hi I’m in New Jersey zone 7A and some of my ranunculus is starting to brown so I will dig them up and store them (I was growing them in containers). Now I’m wondering if I could leave them in the containers or would that cause them to rot? 🤔

    Hi, thanks a lot, very usefull!
    What about when I take the ranunculus corms out of the ground and they are full of fleas? Should I throw them away? Why is this happening? Thanks a lot for all you suggestion :)

      @NorthlawnFlowerFarm  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm interesting. Are they flea beetles? Are they damaging the corms? Can you wash them off easily prior to storage?
