When Ellie was in the Hospital bed, if you look on the night stand next to her you can see scissors and a roll of tape. She finished her photo album knowing her end was near to remind Carl what a good life they had together.
psychologists and counsellors show this movie to clients to help them open up and confront their emotions, particularly around grief and depression. it's a masterpiece.
When I first watched it, back in the early 2010s, I had to pause the DVD because I was crying too hard. It took me 10-15 minutes before I could continue watching it.
One of Pixar's finest works of art. An amazing opening sequence that sets the stage for a story at this foundational level. That grounds us deeply before setting us loose in to the fantastic. I truly hope everyone watching gets a chance to not just be sad watching this opening but feel absolutely gut-punched. To really, truly, personally feel it. Not because I wish us all to feel the pain of loss. But rather because we lived a life that was full of love and enough highs (and lows) to make that loss mean something. The tears are bittersweet; the grief grounded. And the story all the more real. Despite the fantasy of a house turned airship. We see a character with real motivation - a person dealing with real emotion. Driven to act. Driven to ultimately find real purpose in an unexpected place. To live life in all its bittersweet glory.
That montage at the beginning - where they don’t speak a word - is absolutely heartbreaking. But in the best way. Just so damn good, yet so sad. This is peak Pixar and how they can just instantly turn on the tears at a moment’s notice.
5:12 ha, that was me when I watched it in theater, aged 21, when it first came out 🥹 You can imagine how thankful I was for the 3D glasses, pouring waterfalls of tears behind them seated among the bunch of 5-year-olds.
When this movie came out in theaters, there was a story of a little girl with terminal cancer who expressed her wish to see it, as early reviews had everyone buzzing about how good it was. The hospital set up a screening for her in her hospital room as she was far too ill to go anywhere. The little girl made it about two thirds of the way through the movie and passed away quite peacefully and contentedly.
I also LOVE that the final scene is the house sitting atop the cliff, next to the waterfall right where they were originally going to pit it. So perfect.
Hello, Nia. This movie has brought grown men to tears. I remember seeing this in the theater when it was released and feeling the way you do. Your smile and tears reminded me of that day. As a lifelong fan of animation, UP made me cry. It showed the true power of animation when the story, ideas, animation, and care are applied to make great visual art. You saw this also in the Spider-Verse movies as well. Your reaction was heartfelt and touching. It goes to show that when you care enough not to insult the audience and really put time and effort behind your work, the reward is a movie that can touch people on a profound level, no matter their age or circumstance. Now, it's time you enjoyed another family situation in progress. THE INCREDIBLES are a family with problems, just like most do. But they come together when the going gets tough. It is funny and really entertaining. Take a chance. You won't be sorry. Keep going and enjoy the movies
If you stopped before the end credits, you should check them out. There are some very satisfying post return pictures in the album (clearly recovered before they got back to the States).
When Carl and Ellie go picnicking, their destination is a spot under the same tree from A Bug's Life (1998). Also it's awesome that u have been more active here lately 👌 keep up the good work!
Such a beautiful film. If you didn't love the characters, there would be no tears. Great reaction. I still get teary-eyed in many parts off this movie.
If you didn't know the ice cream shop at the end (Fenton's) is an actual ice shop close the Pixar offices. Also if you didn't catch it Russell is Asian American who's image was based on Peter Sohn who directed the Pixar movie Elemental.
The first joke that happens in the movie made me mad when I saw it in theaters. 😂 I was like "The audacity to get me to laugh after that opening! How dare you! I'm still grieving!"
Okay this is kind of off topic but I've watched a few of your videos and I am mesmerized by your complexion It is so flawless and smooth like a 3D animated character.
This movie pulls at your heart strings in the first ten minutes regardless of how many times you’ve seen it. Still stings even if you know it’s coming. Glad to see you enjoyed this masterpiece. Keep up the good work.
Hey Nia, in case you ever wondered what happened more with Carl Fredericksen, Russell, and Dug…there was a mini series called Dug Days that shows what more happened afterwards. Carl sold off the blimp and got a home to be closer to Russell and Dug. It’s worth a watch.
Great movie. it is such a great and different animation movie. It deals with real life you almost forget it is an animation movie. It is both funny and Sad. I was never interested seeing animation movies until I saw this movie. Big Hero 6 is also a great movie like this.
I wonder if this movie started as a short film that was expanded and added Russell, Dug and the rest. Like, starting with the prologue up until Ellie's passing, then showing Carl living by himself and ending with "Thanks for the adventure" and Carl finally stepping out of the house
Girl I don't know if this is more typical of what you watch I just watched your screen reaction which was the first thing that you've watched that was suggested for me put oh my God this will make you cry buckets it's such a great movie but oh my God the tears I hope you had tissues
I got to admit this movie is unfair. Everybody remembers the first part and still can't help but cry through it... But nobody remembers the scene at the end where he goes through the book one last time. Cheers from Ohio
Oh man, that last moment was suuuuuuuuuuch an emotional moment and suuuuuuuch an important message. Same with the kiddo saying it’s the little or boring things that you remember then most. Gosh dang it I’m starting to cry again
"Up": Imagine that, an animated feature where a whole life unfolds with more substance than most Hollyweird movies, that reduces viewers to tears in the first 10 minutes. But then, Wilderness Explorer Scout Russell shows up on Carl's doorstep and the adventure begins! (It is a shame that Pixar can't tell stories like this any more?)
@NiaMakiReacts 😂 that would explain the kinship I feel! Or as Pvt Witt said.. "Maybe all men got one big soul everybody's a part of, all faces are the same man. One big self. Everyone lookin' for salvation by himself. Each like a coal thrown from the fire."
No unfortunately, when he got set up for the old folks home he would have to sell the house to pay for his boarding, and he either made a deal to get the charges dropped or the businessman would have bought it at auction or from the bank as soon as Carl signed the papers, so it wouldn’t have been there anymore. What he did is the only way the house wasn’t destroyed
I feel the same way about the whole film. On rewatch I really try to focus on the funny parts or else I’ll lock myself in the bathroom crying. I have two rainbow babies. 💕
@niamakireacts not sure if you will read this, most likely not, since this react was more than 1 month ago and you have lots of comments. Anyway, I have seen a few reacts to this movie and what connected me to YOUR react and later the channel was the way you felt about the past when they found out they could not have kids. This is something that talks deeply to me and most people do not feel the real weight of this, how life changing it is. Because of your react I had to Google and found out what a rainbow kid it is. As someone that will not ever have kids, this few seconds talk too loud. Thank you for your comments.
Mia. I'm still laughing my ass off at you thinking it was a dream. With all the overthinking you usually twist out of a movie plot, you thought this was a dream. It's better. It's a fantastic idea and animated classic. And then, you thought they were hunting a T-Rex. Hilarious. But it was nice to hear saying my name during the film.
yeah, it sucks cause without it sometimes I miss things cause I hear it but my brain just doesn't process it, but sometimes I read too fast and get surprised before the character even says something... in this case I wish they put mystery voice or some thing instead of Dug
@@NiaMakiReacts true, didnt notice them in the thumbnail......but have you ever had milk chocolate when what you really want is Dark Chocolate, i thank you for samll mercies 😁

Right at the end, the Ellie Badge, that's what BREAKS me every single time
Good reaction video! The movie and your reaction broke me again xD I watched my favorite few parts. Will watch the whole thing asap!
This and also Arrival just breaks you in the first 10 mins lol. But this one just continues through out with more emotional moments 😭 😭

It is a great movie of life after loss. I think we all have some grand idea of places we would like to see, but never get there.

within like 5 mins, its crazy!!
I didn’t realize Ed Asner was the voice actor of Karl until a few viewings and love the film more now knowing it was him. He was one of the greats.

i've always called the first 10 mins of this movie as a sociopath test. if you don't cry at that , you have no soul

Pixar did a better job telling a love story in 10 minutes with minimal dialogue than Twilight did in FOUR whole movies....
