  • Once again I find myself repairing the Thumler’s Ultra-Vibe 18 rock tumbler. This time I decided to try a new tactic and go with a completely new style motor. It seems to work ok but for how long? 🤔

I have two UV-18 tumblers and have always wondered what I would do if the motors went out. Thank you for making this video Scott! Keep us posted on how your UV-18 hold up with the replacement motor.

I hope it works out because it was a pretty cheap fix 🤞.

Man, I am dreading the day my UV-18 motor decides to quit. I appreciate all the insight you are giving out with your experimental solutions. I hope you get this one right!

The vibe vector was changed from rotating horizontally to vertically, hence why your rocks are bouncing more. These are what works with the lot’o type vibe tumbler. The motor replacement spec that matches the OEM configuration is available from other manufacturers.
Although this “works” it won’t give you as good of polish results.

That motor should work, for a long time. Keep an eye on heat, it may run warm and there is no built-in fan. Check out my build. I have two of these running constantly for several months with great results. The small motors that come on the vibrator tumblers only last about a year. I burned up my Raytech motor and build my own vib-tumblers now. Nice retrofit work!

Check out Rock&Lap, he built one from scratch using that same type of motor.

@@spwinaustin I enjoy your channel. I'm looking for a vibratory tumbler but it seems most of them don't last very long. I may get the one harbor freight offers and get the extended warranty.

This may be an odd thing to ask on youtube, but would you be interested in buying a Raytech Adjust-a-vibe 40-SS? I bought it at auction and just don't have the time to use it to its full capacity.

Hi, thanks for watching! It’s a tempting offer but honestly it would depend upon your price and location. I don’t suppose you live in the Austin area?😆

@@spwinaustin No, quite a from distance there. It's been turned on twice, never loaded with anything. Shipping to Austin TX looks like it'd be about $100. Name a price, before shipping costs.

@@MGgoose1 I would definitely be interested for the right price. What form of payment would you accept? With that much for shipping I would be willing to pay $300 for the unit.

@@spwinaustin I'd prefer to conduct the transaction through something like ebay where there are both buyer & seller protections, though I'm open to alternatives. Regarding price, if you'd be willing to go to $350, you've got a deal. I'll even toss in some rocks from the St. Louis MO/IL area I've collected.

Thanks for the quick response! I guess I can squeeze out another $50 😏. eBay works great for me as well. If you send me the link I’ll get the payment out straight away, thanks!

1:22 - It is a "vibating" motor (see name plate) . I hope it lasts long time. Maybe they are awesome with building motors and terrible with spelling. 😂
