    Damn you're good, so happy I found your channel, keep it coming. As a mid septuagenarian every tip and trick helps, I've been Leather tickling for a couple of years now, so any and all tips and tricks are a BIG bonus for this Ol' Fart.

    I like the spring steel tip, all I need to no now is where to get it. Lol where was you about seven years ago , could have saved me a lot of head scratching. This type of information is about all I’ve found worth a hoot about social media.

      The blue ones from McMaster are 1/2” wide but I can’t remember if they were .178mm or .254mm The ones I have aren’t marked and it’s been a year since I got them. I’m still trying to zero in on the right spring temper since this is still a WIP If you do Instagram you can DM me your address and I’ll send ya a sample 🤙

    I like to dip my whole project even after completed in a pan of vinergaroon and then a pan of.baking soda water and have gotten good results thanks for all your tips very helpful

    Thanks for the tips, glad I found this channel. I’m new to leather, I started by recycling old leather scrap gloves and boots. Picking up mason jars and steel wool today.
    The metal band insert…Brilliant! Cheers.

    Great video George. As for baking soda on vinegar black, I read years ago a article from the Leather Chemist of America news letter that said using baking soda was more detrimental than not neutralizing the vinegar. They said this was because the baking soda would mess up the PH in the leather.

    You should also wash the steel wool with a little acetone or alcohol FIRST, to get the light oil coating off before adding it to to the vinegar...or so I'm told...

    I'd like to better see how you've set up your pounding stump. Is it waist height? What does the base look like? I'd like to do something similar but I'm not sure where I'd get a piece of wood that would work

      You can get your log off the side of the road when a storm or someone gets a tree cut down. Keep your eyes open. That stump reminds me of a stump a blacksmith would use. Stay safe.

    On the dissolving of the steel wool in vinegar; when it dries on the leather doesn’t it turn back to metal in some form? What happens then?

      I’ve never experienced anything like you describe After the leather is darkened black I burnish the surface and apply conditioner Thank you Joseph

      Hello Russell Usually I use a dremel with a small cutoff wheel and cut a cross into the back of the button. Then small needle nose pliers and pull out the back leaving the button shell intact. Do you have an instagram? I could send a few pictures to help clarify if you do
