- It's coming down to the wire on the On18 Bandit Canyon Railway - or should I say wires? I'm getting the layout ready for an upcoming open house in June, and this week, I'm adding an ambient sound system from Pricom Designs and Fantasonics Engineering! Follow along step by step I install the Pricom Dream Player Lite and build a pair of custom speaker mounts.
Thanks for watching, amigos!

Dear Dave, great addition to the Bandit Canyon Railroad! On the single wall wart; considering these boards only produce ambient audio, I can’t imagine the capacity of the system may surpass the amps the adapter can feed. The only thing that could be influenced is the sinus wave of the amplifier, which could add a background noise. But with such a small system I don’t think it would become an issue nor audible.
On the solid wire extension for the audio cables to the speakers. As you said stranded wire is better, it simply has a lower resistance because of the fact such wire consists of more surface. However, the gauge of the original speaker wires is much smaller, plus the length of the cable is so short that it shouldn’t make a difference. Looking forward to the next episodes and progress on the Bandit Canyon! Cheerio
Great info, thank you!
Glad to see you....was worried!! If you have a really tight budget like mine...I am using free sounds of the net and small bluetooth speakers.....not as nice as Pro sound....but works. thx
Great video, I need to add sound to my layout. I really like quality of your videos, what camera and microphone do you use?
Thanks. I actually shoot mostly with my iPhone and use a bluetooth lav mic for audio. Some B roll and pick ups are shot with a Sony ZV1.
Wow they sound great Dave. 👂👍 do you know if he ships to Australia?
You'd have to ask Jiim, but he does have international shipping listed on the website.
Good lesson. Thank you.
I work in a Hobby shop we did the calculations and it turns out the store is 1.5 miles front to back in HO scale. When we can hear "cab chatter" that far a way, we know it's too loud!
Welcome back, great video!
Hi. I love Jim Wells’ sound system and effects. My friend Steve won one of his systems when the “High Street” diorama won something at the Narrow Gauge Convention a couple of years ago. But he never sent for it! Cause he’s sorta stopped modeling. At least no layouts anymore. I digress. He should get it! They are amazing! So many people don’t do background sound effects. When done correctly they really bring good things to life!
I build my own systems, but I’ve looked at Jim’s. If I weren’t building my own I’d be buying his. And great effects library too!
About the upcoming train event. We were planning to show up a couple of years ago or last year? It’s all a blur. World’s smallest train show! When is it? Where? Riverside right? Anyway sounds like fun!!!!! Hope you are well!! ❤🚀🚀🚀🚀🚂
Hi Dale, I sent you an email regarding the event.
15:35 I feel attacked :P haha
😆🤣
Nice to have you back Dave! and I'm very much looking forward to seeing this in person!
Excellent! Really adds to the layout.
Regarding using one power supply on both circuit boards, you should be fine as long as the power supply can handle the amperage usage from both boards.
I like the sounds you picked for this layout. This is going to be fun watching you finish this layout. Thanks for sharing this sound system.
GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Always good to see you
I hope you can hear the sound, as being somewaht deaf I couldn't hear a thing!!!
Loud and clear. You can turn up the sound on your TH-cam player.
Hi again. Looking into the tang band t1 2025sc speakers. Hard to find! Expensive too. Not on Amazon. Where do you buy them? $34 each? Parts express. $60 at Walmart Walmart? Anyway they are good? Looking at bagging one to mess with.
Howdy! I got mine at Parts Express. They ain't cheep, but they do sound great.
Enjoyed the video presentation. Your methodology is always spot on. Your formula for success must be: Plan, Plan, Plan, Plan some more, Plan and then Do! 😂
There must not be any phasing to speaker wires? Red to red, black to black?
QUESTION: Does it come with a volume control?
The Mili-Amp has a volume knob.
Very cool! Even though I model 1990's SP in O scale, I learn a lot from you and enjoy watching every second of it!
When you connected the speakers, did you make sure to hook them up in phase? This would have been easier if you’d gone with an additional colour along with the green (say green/brown).
They are phased correctly, but you are correct.
Phase is less important on a background system. For music from two speakers sure! But I’ve even revised on purpose!! Point the speakers in opposite directions! It can make the sound less directional. More surround ish. This is how “fake surround bars” work. They inject phase shift to make the stereo sound like 5.1. Try and see! But no rules when doing BG sounds. 🚂🚂🚂🚀
Great video! You're giving me ideas... hmmm.... No reason to not use the same power supply as long as the overall amperage draw isn't more than it can supply.
Thanks, email sent to your sound guy.
Please give a web site for the sound modules.
Sure! It's in the video description above.
Is that the sound of an early air conditioner running in the background? LOL
Did it sound realistic?
@@ThunderMesaStudio no, it sounded Believable, lol.
@@ThunderMesaStudio the video was great and I'm sure glad you got some time off but missed your weekly input.
