  • This tutorial is on how to defrost your freezer WITH OUT unplugging it!
    YUP WITHOUT UNPLUGGING IT! I SAID IT!
    Every one claims you that HAVE TO unplug your freezer before you defrost it...i say BA HUM BUG to them!
    I had found a way to do defrost my freezer without having to hurt my shoulder (sinceihave a ripped rotator cuff on my left side) and you have to move the refrigerator or freezer to unplug it! Well not me!
    So welcome to my version of the lazy mother's version on how to do things!

    Thanks so much for this, I have a fridge/freezer and 2 toddlers so it is impossible to switch off the whole thing to clean the freezer! I also can't move the whole thing to reach the plug, way too heavy for me, will try this method out!

    Looks good. I am lazy too so I will have to try this :) . The last time I defrosted my freezer I left the door open overnight by accident I might add. The food was ruined but the freezer was clean.

    A little trick a bodybuilder showed me to quickly heal rotator cuff is to put your elbows tight by your sides and bend your arms so the your forearms are perpendicular to the floor then rotate your arms from in front of you out to your sides just like a refrigerator swings. Do this 10 times every morning in the shower, mine was bad for 8 months but after doing this exercise healed in 3 weeks, I am very grateful for the big guy at the desk at Planet Fitness for this knowledge. Thanks for the vid)

    This is a good tip for me as I need to defrost my old ice box quickly before my new fridge freezer arrives. The delivery men are going to take the old fridge away and it needs to be defrosted for them, yet I want the fridge on to keep the food fresh for transfer. Thank you.

      you are very welcome- you might want to try unplugging it about 20 to 30 mins before the arrival of the new frig or you can get coolers to store your items and then unplug it for 1 to 2 hours before as well

    I thought this was the usual way to defrost a freezer. It's the way I've always done it before getting a frost free one. I can't remember whether I turned it off or not but I would for safety reasons.

    Recently I tried chipping away at the ice with a hammer and screwdriver; applying the tip of the screwdriver to the ice and gently (or so I thought) tapping the head of the screwdriver with the hammer. I ended up making a crack in the inner wall of the freezer. This completely fucked the freezer and caused nasty-smelling chemicals to seep out and contaminate the food so it all had to be binned. I suppose I should be thankful it was only a cheap model and I had already had it 15 months. Don't make the mistake I made!

  • @tjfSIM

    Why leave it switched on? If you've taken everything out of it, there is nothing to be gained from leaving it running and the compressor will be working overtime to reach the required temperature while you're steaming it with boiling water. This is a brilliant way to shorten the life of your freezer!

      +Charles Dale Good for you : you know how to pick a good landlord! But we're in Ireland here...

    • @MonPetitPois68
      @MonPetitPois68 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Charles Dale That's what we need here: some sort of structure. I live in a house with about 10 flats but the landlord is from Limerick on the other side of Ireland so communicating any issues and getting them sorted is pretty slow for the least. My upstairs neighbors waste water (bits of food, grey water from the washing machine) was coming down into my courtyard for weeks before I cracked up and asked my neighbor if he could fix it for me. There are not many standards here really. It's improving but it is still slow. I think your landlord should invest in Irish property and teach our landlords to quickly restore bad situations. Happy tenants and reactive landlords= a match for years.

    • @joeblack621
      @joeblack621 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      What do you think your landlord would do if your landlord realizes that your fridge/freezer consistently needed repairing because you were dumb enough to try to thaw the fridge/freezer by keeping it switched on whilst trying to thaw it?
      Besides, too many landlords, worldwide, are useless.

      Always switch off the fridge/freezer-never leave it on whilst thawing; waste electricity and takes longer and also shortens the life of fridge/freezer unnecessarily.
      I use empty plastic ice cream containers, special water-absorbing cloth, knife or pointed metal tool (used carefully not to insert holes into the side of fridge/freezer), place hot water into plastic containers (cover the bottom of the fridge with plastic containers and cover the shelves of freezer with plastic containers to reduce the amount of water that have to be mopped up) and change the water when it becomes warm, the quickest method is to also use a steamer.
      Always switch Fridge/Freezer OFF only an idiot would leave Fridge/Freezer on!

  • @kellywaters8494
    @kellywaters8494 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Seems like leaving it on would be hard on the motor. Why not turn it off since it doesn't take very long to get the ice to melt..

    • @JamieYAYme
      @JamieYAYme 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think this is more for people who want to keep their refrigerator half running, or other items nearby could be necessary. Was useful for me with my stand alone freezer considering it's the main breaker which has the tv that's keeping my kid occupied while I defrost my freezer. But then again my freezer has an off switch that's very handy. I just wanted to find a way to get it done quicker and the pot method helped!

  • @joeblack621
    @joeblack621 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Leaving the freezer on when trying to defrost it doesn't make any sense.
    The freezer must take longer to defrost because the freezer will be trying to keep the freezer at the correct coldness temperature because the hot water will be telling the freezer that it is far too hot - catch 22 feedback situation - wasting electricity and money unnecessarily also.
    Trying to thaw a badly iced freezer using your method won't work properly, it's flawed - your shoulder pain would get worst and not better.
    Your tutorial should be how to defrost a freezer without switching it off, whilst shortening the life of the components, waste money necessarily and besides taking longer to defrost it.
    This is because whilst the hot water that will have to be replaced every few minutes because it becomes cold the freezer will be trying to cool down the freezer being heated by the hot water - catch 22 situation, flawed, it's stupid.
    It is stupid because I just want to thaw my fridge/freezer as quickly as possible and your method lengthens the time besides wasting money for nothing.
    Why didn't you place cold water instead of hot water in the pan because by leaving the freezer switched on it is making the freezer colder which will take the freezer longer to thaw.
    Therefore, people who think this is an excellent idea is obviously also stupid.
    I think you claim that it takes too much time to switch off the freezer when by leaving it on it will waste more time for the freezer to thaw, commonsense.
