    I was in the DR last year. The Dominicans I spoke to told me that they saw the abject anarchy in Haiti and are completely terrified. There is a very good reason they are protecting their borders - they know that their whole economy is highly dependent on tourism and that as soon as the lawlessness from that side of Hispañola crosses into their country it'll all be over for them.

    • @geogmz8277
      @geogmz8277 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

      The economy doesn't depend on Tourism.. yes, it is important it represents 15% of the country's income. But if you go to Santo Domingo or Santiago far from Tourists areas you'll see is an industrialized country.

    The Dominicans and it's military have every right to protect it's border like any nation does!!!! What is the point of even having nations if that nation won't protect it's borders and it's citizens? The government of Haiti cannot expect another country to deal with it's own problems....one thing is letting an individual who is in need of certain medical care that may be found in another country and another is just the LACK of crossing into another sovereign nation and completely disrespecting it's laws!!!!

    Basically Haitians though the wall was the border but the actual border is meets before the wall. Meaning they crossed over to the DR. Thank you! We’re struggling with these Haitians because they want to enter our country to take over our jobs, healthcare, lands (bc they’re told that the we stole their lands). They even want to partake in our political system to pass bills that would give them power to counter Dominicans in our own country.
      Some of those illegal Haitians are criminals who come to our country to destabilize us. There are reportedly small gangs in some regions of the DR who commit rape, murders among other things.

    The wall or fence is built on Dominican territory, so even when they walk in front of the wall/fence, it is still Dominican soil! Not Haitian... That's what the commanders are telling them. Looks like some Haitian civilians threw some rocks at them while they were patrolling.
    He told the Haitian commander that he (the Haitian commander) was in Dominican territory, and so were those civilians, and if they tried to cross the lines, they'll open fire while calling the helicopter at the same time - ngl! that was pretty bad ass to see.. Those Haitians military were standing on Dominican land! The commander accepted to talk to them but there were some civilians throwing rocks at them.. That's when he said "Talk time is over control your people or we're going to open fire.." all the Green berets soldiers are special forces usually trained under NATO standards. It has its source in the Central Cordillera at Pico de Gallo mountain in the Dominican Republic. Further downstream through the Dominican province of Dajabón until it reaches the border between the Dominican Republic and Haiti, then it runs along the Haitian department of Northeast (left bank) and the Dominican provinces of Dajabón and Monte Cristi (right bank), then flows into Bay of Manzanillo and into the Atlantic Ocean west of the Dominican town of Pepillo Salcedo. It has a length of 55 kilometers of which a little more than 7KM are shared with Haiti.[5] The Dominican town of Dajabón faces the Haitian town of Ouanaminthe.
      In recent years it has lost its flow due to environmentally unsustainable practices. Specifically two: the first, which is related to the destruction of the forest with massive felling, without subsequent reforestation; and the second, the practice of indiscriminately removing sand from the bed of the channel without any technical criteria.
      Now, the Haitian can work with the DR to re-forest the area on both side and restore the water flow of the river which will benefit both side. This require team work.
