Thank you so much ! I am a speech language pathologist and I am excited to be taking a beginning voice class with a wonderful professor. Your knowledge of correct phonology is absolutely amazing!! Thank you so much for your wonderful instruction and information.
YOU ARE AMAZING! I was a music education major in college, 25 years ago, with a minor in voice. I'm going back for music therapy and had to audition and needed this refresher as my voice has definitely changed. Working with Clippinger as well. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
I'm a retired singing teacher. This is an excellent lesson. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your comprehensive explanation of this! I don't feel confident without my teacher guiding me since I only just started and I meet with him only once a week. This is very helpful, so thank you!
Learning my first aria. Thanks for the advice!
Thank you so much... I've seen this so many times... This is getting me through my first high school Solo and Ensemble...
This video helped me get a 1 on my solo which is the highest score you can get
Thank you so much! I have an audition tomorrow that I was worried about. This helped me a lot. Hope you make more!
Break a leg!
Thank you for explaining all this in detail. Perhaps I have a very sharp ear, but by my second singing lesson I was pronouncing the Italian like a native as I have spent 4 decades listening to Italian opera and pop music. It's very necessary to pronounce the Italian correctly.
Bless you sir this just got me through my Solo and Ensemble contest. Thanks so much!
Amazing! Thank you. Good explanation!
Extremely helpful, thank you. It's one thing to have my teacher just tell me what's what, and another to learn to see the patterns. Now if I could just find that magic trick to learning how to roll an R!
Glad it was helpful! For trilled rs have you tried this? th-cam.com/video/cjoOD8SVhos/w-d-xo.html
Sameeee
thank you so much I have voice lessons and I have been struggling with the pronunciation.
I only just found you!! Fantastic! I am off to see the pronunciation dictionary now. Thank you so much ! 👍
janet2a, thank you very much for visiting:)
Dear John Mario(Sir), don't know how to thank you for the tutelage on the Aria that my 8 year old daughter, Saara Mainkar is trying to sing, to the best of her ability! We are from New Delhi, India. Thanks a lot for the able guidance on Italian nuances. Hats off to you; not literally Haha! Hope for more such help. Cheerio. Manoj Mainkar from All India Radio. Warmest regards to you.
Thank you so much for these excellent explanations. I am looking forward to trying to apply all that in my singing to morrow :+)
Many thanks - I was really lost on this and then found you.
Explained very well. Thank you!
Thank you so much! Come on everybody! Over 27k views and under 750 likes. Give this dedicated teacher a like : )
Thanks Molte Grazie Giovanni Help me for this song and future ones, but would have liked you to sing it through too!
very good
Hi John. Love your vids. Been singing a long while yet learn from you! When you have some extra time (joke sorta), could you do a vid breaking down the lyrics for “Romanza”? the one sung by Andrea Bocelli, composed by Mauro Malavasi? Massive thanks if poss.
Lot of THANKs, you hepl me cause i'm Tenor and i don't know the exact "Caro" pronunciation !
Thank you !
Thank you so much! I just got this as a solo so I was a bit nervous
"Car Romeo Bend!"
For me, all of this pronunciation stuff is intuitive, because I grew up hearing and speaking Italian and listening to old fashioned Italian lyrics, but my little sister is different; she used to love singing this song when she was very young, and Dad would accompany her on the piano... It was very cute, but... English is her first language, and she didn't really know the difference between Italian and English when she was little, so she always mixed everything up; some words were correct, but others were WAY off... Her version went something like this:
"Car Romeo bend,
Credi y'all mend,
Saints all the daaaay...
Linguine and clam-sauce."
She wanted to be "one of those fancy pink ladies with big white Grandma-hair and big boobs" (aka, an 18th century opera singer)... She would sing it so seriously; she would even add her own appoggiatura and crazy long cadenza etc, but she would get so upset when we all laughed at the linguine part... Good memories!
Grazie!
Funny about the dropped finial vowels... In our dialect, we tend to drop/swallow/diminish most finial vowels, unless they're accented or followed closely by a word beginning with a consonant, so "ben" and "almen" at the end of a phrase are sounding normal to me... My name is pronounced with only two syllables; something like j-ZEPP", not "jyoo-SSEP-pay", unless I'm saying my last name as well, in which case I'd insert a very short "e" between the p and the L, if that makes sense.
Edit: I'm very Americanized; my Italian is so bad now; my family comes from the area near "potenz, bazligat" (Potenza, Basilicata)... All my brains got used up for English; the only time i can think/speak Italian anymore is when I'm drunk or tired or angry; otherwise it's all English, even in my dreams. 😕
Thank you so Much Coach Subbed n Likked watched all of your video Respect.
The funny think is at School we are being taught to sing with an open mouth.... lol I think its so we get a better understanding of how to use the vocal folds, or like drinking water but like drinking air to raise the soft palate idk,... what you think why are students being taught to sing a certain way? maybe it is the jaw moving they want it to be straight???
thank u :)
Thanks immensely for your correspondence sir. Please refer me to an Italian beginners website. Have a great day. Thanks.
This channel has a lot of info. Here is one on vowels alone: th-cam.com/video/hZK9waWTdes/w-d-xo.html
th-cam.com/video/_Nt_w0GAfgE/w-d-xo.html This is another great channel for Italian. This deals with the International Phonetic Alphabet and the Italian Language.
th-cam.com/video/YKjjCMAK05s/w-d-xo.html this is a channel that deals with combinations of letters in Italian one at a time.
Thanks for your job! But your Oh is wrong.(( Italian Oh more open.
th-cam.com/video/OcM5QTaXl7k/w-d-xo.html
Phenomenal didactic teaching. However, too much elucidation of the Italian letter structure for a beginner. Phonetic pronunciation would have been better. Too much explanation!
Louis, my channel is geared towards singers with a working knowledge of the Italian language. There are plenty of beginning channels I would be happy to recommend to you if you message me. Thanks for visiting and for commenting!
Remember always the finals e or o is closed. ... always crudele. .. the fist e is open the final is closed
It's good but... Your American English pronunciation wins you. You are speaking American Italian. Not European Italian. But k2 anyway.
This narrator is awful! Does he ever look at the camera or is he reading everything? I’m sure his knowledge is beyond reproach but his presentation is unbearable! Can’t watch!
Ha ha, look away! Now!
Your teaching can be perplexing for the new beginner. The ending should have been the entire teaching. Too much explanation!
Louis Lark I disagree, I am new to classical music entirely and because of his video over Una Voce Poco Fa, I am singing it for my college audition(32 year old transfer student to Texas State auditioning for Vocal Performance in two months). I am recording it this weekend in it’s entirety though not with a pianist yet, but a soundtrack. I would be happy to send it to you to see what one can do with only the help of one video of his over pronunciation.
Melonnie Loya I would love to hear you! I am rewatching this excellent video the night before I sing Caro mio Ben at an amateur masterclass day in London. I have listened to SO many versions... I would love to hear you Melonnie 💕🎶
