Sporting CP Ultras - Best Moments

Sporting CP is situated in the capital city of Portugal, Lisbon, and is one of the most successful and supported clubs in Portugal. Even though historically Sporting is one of the most successful clubs in the country, in the last two decades the club hasn´t won the League title or many other important trophies (we´re only talking about Football titles) and has lived through many periods of instability. One of those periods was in 2018 when a large group of Sporting lads (from the group Juve Leo) extremly frustaded by the very poor results and performances of their team, invaded the club´s academy training center and beaten up the coach and some players. As a result many players automatically terminated their contracs with Sporting and many Ultras were arrested. Not many time after this incident, the club´s President at the time also left the club. Even though all this instability and bad results, Sporting still usually has good average attendances every season and a very loyal and passionate fan base.
Sporting CP plays at the Jose Alvalade stadium, which has the capacity for around 50000 people. The majority of the fanatical supporters of Sporting stay at the South stand behind the goal, known as "Curva Sul". In Curva Sul there are 4 Ultras groups: Juve leo, DUXXI, Torcida Verde and Brigada.
The biggest and most important group is Juve leo, which was founded in 1976 and is the oldest Ultras group in Portugal. Next to Juve leo, the biggest group is DUXXI, that was founded in 2002 mainly by ex-members of Juve Leo. This an ultra group that has been growing a lot in the past years and that has been gain importance and members. The other 2 groups are quite small. Torcida Verde was founded in 1984 and Brigada in 2004 mainly by ex- members of Torcida Verde.
Sporting Ultras are known for their loud support, very nice choregraphies and good pyro shows.
Nowadays, the two biggest groups, Juve Leo and DUXXI, are in war against the club´s president, since he cut a lot of the priveleges that these groups used to have with the old president.
Sporting Ultras scene is considered to be apolitical and and has a strong friendship with the Ultras of Fiorentina (that started between the groups Juve Leo and Setebello, but in the last few years has grown to th whole scenes of both clubs).
Sporting also has some right- wing Casual firms that when they attend the matches, they use to stay in the North of the stadium, in the stand behind the goal. However, Sporting Casuals don`t have very good relations with the Ultras groups in "Curva Sul" (many of them were part of some groups in the past but got expelled due to their politics) and clashes between both have happened before. In the 90s and early 2000s Juve Leo used to have a very famous right-wing Hooligan subgroug called Group 1143. The members of this group were expelled of Curva Sul and now many of them are part of the Sporting Casuals. These Casuals also don´t agree with the mentality of the Ultras groups in Curva Sul , since they follow the country law for Ultras and are "legal" groups (if you want to know more about this situation of legal and illegal groups in Portugal check out our video of Benfica Ultras, where we explain it pretty clearly in the description) and they remain "illegal".
Sporting CP biggest rivalry is towards Benfica, whom they play the famous "Lisbon Derby". This rivalry has a lot of tension an hatred between both clubs and supporters. Sporting also has rivalries with FC Porto, Braga and Vitoria SC.
