Great review and thoughts to consider. I tend to shoot in B&W on my EVF/Monitor but save as RAW & JPG. So I can decide later. This allows me to use contrast and highlights more than color. But can still convert in post.
Thank you for this great video. Ever since digital gave the ability to do so, I have shot JPeg for Black and white, yet retaining the RAW for the possibility of colour, it seems to have served me well. But with 35mm film, it is a positive decision before going out as to what is to be produced, and I won’t take both film stocks with me.
Thanks. It can be both liberating and it can be a confusing thing to be able to make both colour and black and white with the same camera and at the same time.I see the advantage of having film as a dedicated way to only shoot what you have chosen before. But both situations have their advantages and disadvantages. Thank you for sharing your experience with it.
For me - setting the EVF to b/w , to see the contrasts , and shoot in raw and jpg s/w ....so you have all possibilities ....mostly my pics "end" as b/w . Like your video , thank you !
I was thinking about giving a talk to my camera group about B&W photography when suddenly this video was suggested by the algorithm. Morten, this video really captures my thoughts about B&W versus colour. Like you I shoot in RAW & JPEG, but monochrome is the default and I only refer to the RAW file when I know a shot will only work in colour. I hope to show this video to my group to give them some inspiration for 2025.
The ND filter I use is pretty old now (I take good care of it). There are variable ND filters for the 50mm Summilux like this one: eu.urth.co/products/variable-nd2-400-1-8-65-stop-filter?currency=EUR&variant=35532493586600&stkn=8fa7134bfca4&{adid}&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA-aK8BhCDARIsAL_-H9n7DBHhwWAijtIsgRk9qMEn3m9HuIHhIlyBw6Sfh-oKDTzS5MRRbxIaAvSwEALw_wcB
