    picoCAD: johanpeitz.itch.io/picocad
    Example of a picoCAD Jam: itch.io/jam/picocad-jam-13
    * I've since learned the UV coordinates (mapping texture artwork to mesh) can be rotated simply by pressing 'R' (i.e., don't rotate every corner like I did 😅)

    This is incredible, I really appreciated the shots and nicely lit title cards of the figure too, it's so cool. I think it was a good choice to try and model that, and you did a great job. Handling those file size limits was really interesting, I would've just done one big cuboid and drawn the figure on the texture, Minecraft style :'D

    I've always been pretty interested in 3D modeling (I'm horrible bad at it though) so it's nice to see a more simplified use of it that works for pixel art. I do also enjoy the step by step and even telling about the mistakes here and there that you later go back to fix. I think that really helps in knowing that, One, sometimes trial and error is something that happens even when you've been at it for a while and two, seeing possible mistake that can be made when others work on it but knowing on how to avoid them or fix them. Amazing work as always~
    This is a slightly long tangent but I'd like to thank you. I stumbled by your videos by chance a long while back when I was slightly getting interested in pixel art and I am so glad that I did. Find your videos I mean... Well I suppose also getting into pixel art. ANYWAY, your videos have been the most informative in my opinion. I generally find your videos more enjoyable to watch and a lot easier to understand than others like it, especially since you tend you go through the whole process even the mistakes which I find really helps in the process. I'm honestly not sure if I would have gotten into pixel art if not for your videos since it really helped me have a better appreciation of the art. You're definitely one of the artist that gave me the knowledge and inspiration to even start. I think it was a little over a month ago that I even managed to even post my first work on twitter and let me tell you, that scared the crap out of me but I'm glad I did. I still have a lot to learn but that first step was pretty important to me. I look forward to learning more from your videos and your works. Once again, thank you~!

Best of luck with your pixel art journey, and thanks watching! :D

    I think an optimization you could have made is instead of using two pieces of geometry for each part of the ears, have one longer cylinder and rectangular prism clipping through the head. It’s also possible to extrude a single face from the side of the cylinder to make the rectangle. I’m not fully understanding of this software, so I’m not sure if clipping geometry is forbidden, but it’s a common practice from all generations of models to have clipping geometry. It’s still really impressive what you created with this software.

    • @BJGpixel
      @BJGpixel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Ooh wow that's a great idea, I think that would totally work! Sometimes you see things clip depending on where it is in the rotation, but you're actually able to delete faces if you don;t need them textured, so it might work to extrude that rectangle twice (through the head) and delete the middle portion!

    • @dbbgba
      @dbbgba 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know how picocad works exactly, I’m going to assume it works like old render engines so usually extruding faces is more efficient than having many individual primitives, it saves on hidden geometry that the machine still has to calculate and then determine not to render.

    This might be my favorite 3D modeling program ever. Literally no hassle and no hundreds of tabs and buttons you know nothing about. You just launch it and start pulling the shapes and instantly get it. No clue why no other 3D programs follow suit

    For the ears you could use a single cylinder, the middle of it will be hidden inside the head. With this kind of optimisation you will be able reduce the number of triangles hence the size of the project.

    I might have an easy solution to making round shapes etc. By using an alpha colour you can make things invisible(like a green screen?). I found this in the vehicle example file that comes with the program. Just open that file and change the alpha colour and you'll see that the cars are mainly boxes. But they made round wheels by hiding the texture around them. I hope this helps ^^''

    Does texture size counts towards the limit? If it does you would be able to bring the granades back by halving the large chunks and reducing the size. You also dot need a whole screen since the granades only need to be bumps they can be half spheres, saves you some vertices.

    Sorry to ask such a simple question but, Is it possible to make a model on picoCAD and then export as an .obj or .stl file? Im asking this cuz would be a very nice way to make simple and cool papercraft models

    James can i ask what is the spec of your PC/Laptop? Because whenever i added the 6th mold the PicoCAD would be really slowed down and laggy.
