was lucky enough to ride one tonight! It truly is a whole other level. I am just as addicted as I was when I first got my xr, like its insane. Cant wait for mine to ship.
Great honest non hyped info into the riding characteristics of the GT which will be invaluable as in giving a heads-up into what to expect and aid that mental preparation for that first ride on my soon to be delivered GT!👏🏾🙏🏾
You put that wobbly pushback feeling into words so well, its exactly what I was feeling today on my first few rides. I'm a lighter guy so my preferred cruising speed on the XR was 19-20mph, as of right now, the board feels unnecessarily restrictive. I would beg FM to just give use 2 mph more before the pushback kicks in. I don't even want it to be less aggressive necessarily, I just want to cruise comfortably at 20-21. And beyond just wanting a higher top speed for when I'm commuting, the wobbly nature of the pushback seemed hazardous on non pavement surfaces like trails. That I'm really not a fan of. Other than the pushback threshold though, honestly I am in love with the board, its incredibly impressive. In matters of preference, the tire profile and the carviness are, for me, perfection
Thank you Jake for your honest review. I’ll guess there’s a lot room for improvement alone in the software. Just imagine a GT with WTFs or a lower Kit and of course some different custom shape mode and last but not least a different tire with a softer and more squishy compound. 🙃
The current tire blows, also GT has been nosediving under 10 mph. This issue has not been fully addressed. Multiple users having same issue including myself. FM has not commented or addressed this nosedive issue.
You and I really think and ride a lot alike. You have more skills but I'm still slowly leveling up at my own pace after riding since the Plus launch. Love your videos and analysis! You earned my subscription today.

Great feedback and look outs for those of us stil waiting. Glad to hear the GT redeemed itself a bit with the battery range. You guys ride way lower psi than I do on street. I thought a lot of the tail drag issues could be fixed with a firmware update as you stated in the video. Thanks for the great content can’t wait to get mine under my feet next week!
You found your bonk target...at...Target :D But seriously thanks for the unbiased and honest viewpoints on the GT. As much as I want to get it, I'll hold off for now until some firmware changes. Not diggin how the tail could slap the ground and drag and the unsteady-ness that you are talking about at around 19mph
Thanks for the honest review. Like you i like low carving and love my Pint for that reason. I thought of upgrading to the GT but this looks really high / stiff. Staying on my good old Pint for now.
I've been saying the same thing about an option to adjust pushback based on a milage level up system. The intense pushback should be for beginners. I'd like to see the option for pint style pushback and an option for XR style pushback. The app already gives you badges for accomplishments why can't it actually unlock custom push back or racing pre-set settings as well. I really hope FM addresses the trail drag issue as that could be considered a danger as well. Race for the rail could be weird with the aggressive pushback. 9 psi... That is low. How bad does that affect your range? Thanks for all the great info you and the Floatlife team out.➖☠️➖🤙🤙
Great suggestions, maybe the early years but now FM is in (5) wrongful death lawsuits, most we’re on XR’s. I’m sure the lawyers had something to do with the push back. Sucks, but it’s the world we live in.
Great video. Great to see you with a helmet. Up next installing rim savers (and we get to see a tire change). Question, is there tire sealant in the tires? I can see one of the reasons Future Motion chose a tire with a harder sidewall, is to minimize the effects of getting a puncture. Any thoughts?
Yes, great review! FM should have marketed the tire as a run flat tire😁 I'm a 1400+mi Pint rider, when I see you stop at a light, etc you look rock solid standing there. Does the GT feel more like an XR or a Pint to you in that situation? Tire pressure: What PSI do you ride your XR at on pavement?
Jake, theory: On the landing from a bonk or jump, would landing with the nose, down more, possibly compensate for the tail-slam? Enquiring minds, would like to know. Pls advise. 🙂👍🏻
The thing is if you angle the nose down in the air the tire spins forward faster and kicks even harder when it lands. If you can stop the free spin of the tire mid air or match tire speed to forward speed that will allow for the smoothest landing
Jake, love your videos dude. Have had a pint for a year, trail ride it pretty hard. Was waiting for GT however now strongly leaning towards XR. Keeping in mind I primarily trail ride and work on tricks. Your recommendation? Appreciate your thoughts!
I own an XR and won’t be buying a GT because of Future Motion’s awful, cash-grabby business practices. Proprietary tire? Can’t replace the battery? That’s a no from me. Future Motion has abandoned its surfer roots and has adopted the worst Silicon Valley attitudes regarding right to repair.
Why don’t they just make a setting where if you go into 25 accelerating it goes into neutral back down to a 23. Wouldn’t be hard. Also would let you decide how fast you bombed hills since you’re not getting pushed back and can break on your own terms. Idk. I’d not enjoy being pushed back with the tail dragging just because I went down a hill.
I just watched Bart Miller's video and He pushed thru the push back to get the board up 33 miles. He got up to 25 first then cap out and crashed at 33. Definitely faster than XR lol. Gear up and push thru, Give a real test. Lol 😅😅😅😅
Hahaha why did FM do the same crap firmware so the tail slams like early XRs. What have they been doing these last few weeks while they delayed everyone's boards? They'll be sending out thousands of boards with crap Bluetooth again maybe
Stiff sole is important for run outs on trails because of big rocks you can land on, on pavement a protective sole is important and either way heel protection is important for the board hitting you in the ankle. I’m working with fxnction to make a onewheeling shoe but it will be a few months at least. At the moment Vans Sk8 His are a good option. I also find Supra Vaiders on eBay sometimes
I just linked to it in the description! Having a lightweight helmet with good adjustable fit is extremely important to me, and the visor helps as well.
I weigh 199lbs. I ate it bad on my first time lol. I also a first time One wheeler. I think have to considering lowering my tire pressure but how low thou? 14 PSI?
On a GT? I would try 18psi and then lower it from there and keep trying. Higher pressure will make it more likely to tip over to the side, low pressure can make it more likely for the nose to go down
@@JakeLeary Yes on a GT. So it was at 24 PSI and it would tilt from heel to toe really bad. Thats when I ate it and got my first One Wheel battle scar lol....Ill try 18psi. thanks! I appreciate that people with a lot of experience running the XR don't like the pint-style pushback, but I think from FM's point of view, I suspect they have no choice. For probably 90% of their customers, the way the XR behaves is genuinely dangerous, and a potential liability issue. I learned how to ride on a Pint X. I'd been riding it daily for about a month without a single accident, without even a potentially scary situation. Then, I rode an XR. The first time I rode it, in the exact same place I'd ridden the Pint X dozens of times without any problem, I experienced a nosedive and bruised a rib. I understand that XRs are a lot more fun to people who don't mind the potential dangers, and that's fair. But I also think the XR's behavior is a huge lawsuit just waiting to happen. This means that FM can't make it an optional feature. If they provide this option, then inexperienced people will enable it, hurt themselves, and FM will still end up in hot water, because they provided the option to make the device unsafe. Probably the only alternative here is to do something outside of FM's control, like flash a custom firmware on the board. At that point, you're clearly doing something FM can't be held liable for.
There are situations when there simply isn't enough power left to warn us with pushback, and keep us moving and balanced. Some don't want to hear it and sued FM. Result - harsh pushback. Also result - never buying pint or gt
@@redboyjan It's probably true that the pint-style pushback can cause its own safety issues, but if you look at videos of people crashing their onewheels, they almost exclusively ride XRs. That is probably partly a selection bias issue (there are more people with XRs, and they ride their boards harder than pint owners), but it's also definitely true that the Pints and Pint Xs are a lot safer than the XRs. And while it's true that there is a problem with pushback where onewheels can get into situations where they are no longer able to provide proper pushback, that also brings up another issue: for the life of me I don't understand why onewheels don't have an (optional) loud safety beep, so that they can always alert you to danger even when they can't push back anymore. Finally, when I ride the XR and it pushes back, I'm often unsure about whether pushback is going down because I'm slowing down, or whether I'm pushing through it, because the two can feel very similar. Having an additional mechanism to tell the difference, like a safety beep, would be helpful.
