Papaya salad with beef, and liver jerky. 2nd dishes fried taro covered in rice flour with egg. The sauce is soy sauce with vinegar, sugar, water, and daikon.
The white stringy at 14:17 isn't daikon, it's green papaya, and the "fry egg potato" is called "Bột chiên" and it doesn't have potato in it, "the cake" is the mixture of rice flour, sticky-rice flour and tapioca flour and the sauce is soy sauce, water, black vinegar and sugar mix together. You guys definitly missed these dishes at 2 famous spot in Sai Gon, the beef jerky salad at Le Van Tam park and the "Bột chiên Nguyễn Kim" near Nhật Tảo electronics market. But in Sai Gon, the green papaya salads usually served with rice cracker, and the "Bột chiên" served with green papaya, maybe because this is Đà Lạt's style.
Oh no way! Thank you, that’s super helpful. It was an interesting textured papaya that we’ve never had before. We will have to try those places if we go back ☺️
❤ I love your perspective on Vietnamese people and food, seeing the two of you makes me very happy, I hope you experience many Vietnamese places and dishes because it is very diverse and rich, please experience it fully. The food segments are rich, poor and popular, wherever there are crowds, there is good❤
Awww that is so sweet of you to say. We really appreciate Vietnamese food. It’s so fresh and tasty and made with a lot of love. ☺️❤️thanks for watching friend! xx
It seems you guys enjoy Dalat a lot, good for you, I love the atmosphere of that city. My mouth watering watching you guys eating Banh mi Xiu mai, one of my all time favorite, and I was surprised you managed to try everybody local's favorite street foods: dried beef with green papaya salads and fried crispy flour with eggs, I love these dishes very much, the sauce to dip with eggs is a mixture of soya sauce and vinegar, locals often eat also "bò bía", kind of fresh spring rolls, you should try. Love y'all ❤️
Yes we sure do! It’s a beautiful city in Vietnam. Such amazing food and great weather. We are so happy we got to experience new foods too, some of which are your faves and we can see why. Vietnamese food never ceases to amazing us 😂😍 thank you so much friend!
Bánh Mì Xíu Mại guess what I grew up eating so much of this dish and my Dad used to wake his kids up early in the morning litterally about 4:30 am and took us to the market for this dish. My childhood memory 💗
There are different types of fried flour. They're either mixed with taro or daikon or both. What makes them good is the intense heat that caramelized the outside while the moisture and flavors are retained inside. The salad dish is shredded green papaya with jerky and fried liver. There's another version of this salad can be found further south in the Mekong delta where they'd replace papaya with shredded green mango, and sometimes they replace fried liver with tenderized dried shrimps. I prefer the mango version, it's much much better. These 2 dishes are my favorite. Love watching your videos. So much energy, so much fun. Have more fun and please post more videos.
There will be many surprises about Vietnamese cuisine that you will have to find a way to discover. Vietnamese cuisine is number 1 in the world! Welcome to my Country !
@@ChaseandShelbs next, you can try the other version with the fish sauce. I think the one you had was with soy sauce. There’s also a Thai and Lao version. The latter has crab paste in it. I’m addicted to them all!
Hello 🤗 Shelbs and Chase, you could always ask for two rolls of bread to enjoy the xiu Mai the remaining broth. Sugarcane sugar is healthy cause it's from nature.
The salad you guys were enjoying in the video called green papaya salad mixed with Vietnamese mint and offal beef jerky with the kind of vinegar dressing 😊 Just FYI!!! Thank you for wonderful videos you got there to introduce our beautiful Dalat!!!
I Love Da Lat , i went there more then 100 times in my life =)))) I wish i can show you guys all the best food in VN cause i saw you just try all the randoms only lolzzz
HELLO DEARS, I SEE SOME REPORTS FROM LOCAL THAT THERE IS A NEW TIBETAN TEMPLE HIGH ON THE MOUNTAIN IN DALAT BUT IT HAS NEVER BEEN REPORTED AND SHOWED BY VISITORS - I VERY HOPE YOU COULD SHOW IT - THANK YOU👍🌹😉
Duuuummmaaaa I’ve never been to Da Lat but it looks nice & clean! I’m Viet & you are eating dishes that I’ve never had before. Love that you’re both immersing yourselves into Viet cuisine & culture. Also love how Chase is wearing a Vietnam shirt. Keep up the good work. Thank you for representing Vietnam in such a positive light.

You have mastered your chopstick skills. Interesting when you say avocado ice cream is sweeter. I am Vietnamese and have been to many parts of Vietnam and I notice each city or region has its own taste which pretty much decides how the food taste. I got the feeling people like it sweeter in warmer weather region.
Papaya salad with jerky. Love love your videos and vibe not boring at all .... That is actually where i was born and i love it there i can't do Saigon too hot... there is a place that has udon noodle that i am obsessed with. Banh canh phan rang its right on the street where you enter dalat.... enjoy your stay.
That’s a huge compliment haha thank you! We truly hope we are interesting and not boring because that’s never fun, so thanks! 😂🩷 That dish sounds amazing! We will have to look into it if we are in dalat again.
You’ve said this a couple times 🤪 Chase actually a ton of the food we get once I’ve reviewed it first. Hopefully you can understand a little more where we come from/our filming style and what works best for us! @yvettedale6072
The rich dipping sauce is sweet and sour black soy sauce served with fried dough covered with a layer of egg, very delicious. This dish is also sold a lot in Saigon.

That is green papaya and the “dried beef/beef jerky” is made out of cow lung. I just recently found out from a food blogger, who interviewed the vendor. I believe he is right given how expensive beef is in Vietnam. There is no way the vendor can make a profit if she uses beef.

You guys are the sweetest and most authentic people. I thoroughly enjoy watching you guys eat. Sorry, I meant rice flour and tapioca flour instead of corn starch with a dash of salt and cooking oil. Then, the dough mixture gets steamed, cut into chunks, and fried.
Wow thank you so much for the kind words and letting us know about the dish. We had to really dissect it but finally figured it was flour. Might even be our favourite dish ever over our travels. Thanks again for the support. 🥰
You’re very welcome! Have fun, and I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and good eating! My husband and I decided to bring our girls to visit our homeland after 40 years for the first time last year. We went to six cities from the southern part of VN to the central. We are planning to visit Hanoi, Ha Long, Dalat, and Hue (my home town) one more time since we only spent one full day there the last time. We can't wait to dine at the places you and Chase recommended. Many thanks!
Sugar cane is so healthy for you! It's not sugar as in refined sugar! It's full of minerals and the sugar feeds your brain and muscles! It's also diuretic cleansing your kidneys and bladder! + it's a bit laxative to keep your bowels moving 💩🤌💯
You know, Vietnamese cuisine is very diverse and rich. An interesting thing about Vietnamese people is that they do not pay too much attention to rituals or order when enjoying a dish. As long as it's convenient and comfortable, it's fine. What you need to pay attention to is the sauce that comes with the dish, it needs to be consistent otherwise it will be a disaster. 😱😱😱

Hello Dalat is my home town. Watching you guys and it made we missing Dalat very much. The vegetable dish you had in beff jerky is papaya and the fried egg is fried flour cake. Bon appetite 💑
There are actually 2 ways to eat Sui Mai ( Vietnamese version meatballs vs Chinese version dumplings ) written on the shop sign : Siu Mai Chen = Siu Mai in a bowl and you dip the bread in it . Banh Mi Siu Mai O = Sui Mai in a bread like a sandwich . Nuoc Mia Ly Lon = Big Size Sugar Cane juice ( Ly Lon = Big Glass ) . The Calamansi or Kum Kat is always added to the sugar cane juice to enhance its flavor. If you don't want that flavor you have to say " Khong Tac or Khong Quât ". Sugar cane juice is definitely NOT GOOD at all for diabetic people , but is good for refreshing your body in tropical countries. It's actually green papaya in the beef jerky salad ( Goi Du Du Bo Kho in Vietnamese ) and the mixed fish sauce dip . It's not fried potato omelet but fried rice flour cake omelet ( Banh Bot Chiên Trung ). The black sauce is made of soy sauce , black or red vinegar , sugar and some exotic spices .
During French colonization, they built Da Lat city so they could enjoy somewhere with cooler weather like home. And the French influence to local culinary culture and tea/coffee culture is strong. Bánh bột chiên fried flour
that may be cauliflower, the Vietnamese people love to mix cauliflower and eggs together and deep fry them i know because i am a vietnamese myself and i eat that all the times
Papaya salad with beef, and liver jerky. 2nd dishes fried taro covered in rice flour with egg. The sauce is soy sauce with vinegar, sugar, water, and daikon.

There are actually 2 ways to eat Sui Mai ( Vietnamese version meatballs vs Chinese version dumplings ) written on the shop sign :
Siu Mai Chen = Siu Mai in a bowl and you dip the bread in it .
Thanks for that information. We are glad because it’s one of our favourite places now 🥹
