I've played about 30 hours and have come to a conclusion about this game... It has an annoying amount of micro management. You get to late game and it seems like you are fighting the city mechanics, instead of enjoying them. The game is fun to a point, but I'd rather be fighting other civs, instead of a Food mechanic.

Definitely feels like a step in the wrong direction for 4x games vs the direction civ 7 dev team is going in decreasing monotony. Micromanagement feels cool and interesting in early game with these games but gets unmanageable pretty fast when your empires grow in the mid game.

@@krusty9973i disagree.. i think it is a really refreshing take to this 4x games... the early game is so much fun with these crafting.. but i think they should tone it down a bit.. and have some sort of autofill options with these crafting so that your buildings are automatically filled with those crafting materials when they are available in mid-late game, then everything would be better.

There’s definitely a lot of micro, and some real issues that need to be addressed. I talked about them in my last video and I don’t want to repeat myself too much - but I broadly agree. The UI could use some streamlining, and some of the micro around upgrades, crafting, etc needs some serious streamlining.

I like the micromanagement of the crafting tree, I like seeing every resource and what microing what it all does and where things go. What I see as the MAIN issue is the UI design and implementation itself.
It's severely lacking in features for me to be able to manage all the crafting such as the Search function only being able to search for the name of the improvement, instead of being able to search for keywords, searching for the resource directly, etc. When browsing improvements, I should be able to search for which ones craft glass for ex. or which ones give me Knowledge. I can't be expected to remember every Improvement's specific name. Then the sorting and filtering functions are lacking. I also need a wide view of all my resources so I can check the crafting tree and which resource uses what and what amounts, etc. It should be visual, where is all my gold going? What's using all my lumber?
Also, when queuing up crafting, I have to go thru WAY too many confirmation screens, doing it one by one, to get the correct stuff going. AND the scroll Bar is for made for ANTS. it's so thin and tiny it's like a minigame trying to click on the scroll bar.
TLDR: I LOVE micromanaging the economy and the crafting. I like that glass does a bunch of things lol and I can actually see exactly how my empire uses its resources. The problem is poor implementation of the system. I think that;s the main problem people are having, I think a lot of them think the micro of the crafting sucks because the system sucks, not the overall idea of microing the economy.

I mean isn’t a civs concerns about growth and food equal to the the worries of war? The fact survival kinda plays a big part of the game I kinda like. Rather than it just being ‘a war game’. War is just one small part of a far larger picture

I feel this game is very much an early access. If you try and conquer too many cities you get heavily penalized to the point where it isn't viable. Also when setting up a game you can't change the length. I put in 1250 turns but the game still ends after 500 turns even though I have researched every tech. The game therefore clearly isn't finished and was released in a non complete state which is why some aspects of the game are not balanced or haven't been fleshed out at all.

The more i see, the more glad i am not buying this game. Seems like micromanagement hell. The crafting looks like a great mechanic, and it looks like civ 7 will have something like it when i see factories on the resources screens from all the reveal videos.

  • @xavieralexxanderr
    @xavieralexxanderr วันที่ผ่านมา +4

The micromanagement can be fun during the early game but definitely becomes more unmanageable by the mid-game, especially since the UI doesn't allow for easy searching. This issue applies to buildings too. For example, the university boosts science and military building production, but you can't filter buildings by type, so you're left looking through every building to see it's category if you want to be effective with that bonus. Definitely an unnecessary waste of time with a simple fix.
I think it may be a good idea to automate crafting production when a certain tech/building is unlocked mid-game (like a factory or something). This would make the game more playable and have some historical continuity as well. All in all, I think there's great gaming potential if the UI is massively improved.
In regards to your tips about Quality of Life stats, I think you can ignore prosperity in the very early game since the Chieftain government has 0 taxes to begin with.

You must make tons of food and health amenities. Grab every resource you can get with your first 3 or four cities. Horses grain furs fish wool and copper are must haves. Have at least 5 or 6 workshops . Always have a basket and furniture in your dwellings they boost your food as well as regular production. Grab grain early and grainery. Make grain stores. after almost 30 hours, ive been so disappointed with Ara that i bought civ 6 just so i can learn the mechanics before civ 7. Ive tried so many 4x games before civ just because i wanted to see what the genre had to offer before going to what most people play, and ara drove me to civ. Such a massive disappointment.

The biggest problem I see besides lots of tedious micro management is that the way this game is designed makes it easy to fall into repetitive ruts which will make it get very boring very fast. When a game can be reduced so readily to a formula then you've made a mistake of design. I've played a few hours on game pass before watching any videos or read much about it. I've played just about every turn based civ-like that's ever existed and so far it hasn't grabbed me. I can see it becoming more like an unpaid job than a game lol. It doesn't help that settler rushing seems to be the go to when starting. I've always hated frantically expanding and having the map filled up way before the end game. It has some cool aspects so I'll continue on to give it a chance. I feel it will end up similarly to Humankind even though they are quite different but they seem to share a similar aspect of 'the right way to do things' and not doing those things is purposely gimping yourself for the sake of what...variety? That's like deciding to go to work tomorrow with only one shoe on. Aside from some awkward questions and perhaps a bit of banter, what have I accomplished? In the game I wouldn't even have that lol. Basically I get no joy from min-maxing in any type of game. It just wrings all the joy of wonder and possibility completely out as everything is reduced to basic math. I like meaningful decisions and min-maxing takes that right out of the picture.
On another note. I played on an old system, 4790k w/1080ti in 4k and had no problems other than raising the temp in the room by 5 degrees lol. It wasn't maxed but still looked nice. If you're unsure on purchase I'd recommend Game Pass. I think it's now 11.99 which is a lot less than $60 and you can play other things too. I also use GeforceNOW on demanding games but Ara is not yet on there. It gets hot where I live in summer and not ramping up my system is a god send and also keeps the electricity bill lower. Over all for $20 it's a pretty awesome deal and during the hottest part of the year it's basically free due to electricity savings.

Im very much a beginner when it comes to 4x games with my only other being Humankind and definitely vain when it comes to art styles so I’ve always been put off by Civ 6, and to me managing all the crafting items is honestly just a bit to much for me, especially when I get to close mid games and I need to fight between gathering and industry. As well as crafting all the right things, it’s just a bit much
Though i am mostly enjoying my time playing even if my games don’t save
