My first impression was "He's wearing a shop coat, he's not from here," :). I bet your wife appreciates that too, we don't seem to wear shop coats here, just get sawdust in our jeans and carry it into the house! Many noticed all the equipment in the shop that you have but I say "Look at the man-- he appears to be over, say, 35; therefore he's had a few years to accumulate them. Say your 20ish, you will have the next 15 years to make/buy your collection of tools. It doesn't happen over night. And this man is seriously into wood work, which most of us in our garage shops aren't. So we use what tools we have now, and add more as we gain more experience and hopefully more income to afford better." I really liked the editing, and your doing the work instead of giving long explanations about what your going to do. Thanks for your video.
I second this comment. I started off approx 5 years ago and I had no tools except for a dewalt impact and drill my dad gave me. from there I bought and sold many tools, ended up with a job. moved my tools a few times from shop to shop. and Now have quite a few tools. I have a drill press that will outlast me, the mitre saw I dreamt of owning. a wood lathe thats better than I need it to be and a metal lathe that I havent wired up yet lol. The point is. youll get there. start off with projects that you CAN do with the tools you do have. or do what I did and pick projects where you need one mpre new tool to complete. Thats how I ended up with quite a few great cordless tools 😅
Great result but many details needed by prospective DIY builders not provided. How are the discs attached to the drive shafts? How did you achieve a low 0.01 mm run out? Why the serpentine belt running with grooves outermost? What is the RPM of the discs?
+Mike Rice alcohol glue or contact glue. You have to be careful with the calibration of the wheels, because if it gets badly, the vibrations are unbearable
He didn't use glue. He used a hard, sticky wax. It grips firmly but will peel right off for easy paper replacement. You can purchase it in paper/cardboard tubes. If you apply it while the sander is running, the friction will help spread a soft sticky layer across the disk. turn off, stick your sandpaper into place and you are ready to go. Most disk sanders use cloth backed papers for ease of removal.
This video inspired me to make my own disc sander. I made it lately and now im wondering where to get a piece of sanding paper. May i ask you where you got such a big piece? maybe somwhere online? Thanks alot!
Good music and great editing. Very enjoyable. My heart stopped when I saw you line the paper up with the disc. I have seen disasters with contact adhesive. What glue did you use?
Am I expressing ignorance by asking how would you conveniently change the sanding disk? How often would it need to be changed on average? What about a Velcro style of attachment?
First off awesome work! I have been messing with a design of my own for the same exact tool! Question for you if I may - One thing I've been a bit apprehensive about is the speed of the motor. The one I have came off an old 6 inch jointer that I no longer need. It spins at right around 3200 RPM and my gut reaction is that it'll just be too darn fast! LOL Do you happen to know what RPM your motor is spinning at?
An excellent project but a useless video for someone that wanted to build the same. You go into no detail on the important bits and waste half of the video in planing and cutting wood to make the table. Thanks for the effort though.
At least it is a useful/usable machine as opposed to clumsy "machines" churned out daily on youtube with not much use other than clickbait for views... THOSE are waste of time!
i mean, if you have it, use it. i know for a fact he didnt NEED all of those tools, mount the wheel on the motor to lathe it out, you dont need a table saw, you can do whatever you can on a table saw with a mitre, band or skill saw, it just takes more skill and you will get less precise cuts. hell you could even use a hand saw if you wanted. you dont need to plane the wood, but it sure makes it look nicer, all you need is a saw, a chisel, a drill, a square and a measuring tape. you can use longboard wheels instead of the storebought or lathed out ones he has. think brother, theres always a cheaper solution to everything.
Actually, you can do all he did with a dual sided bimetal hacksaw (wood teeth and metal teeth), a screw driver, and a basic drill. I know, because that's what i did in school when our shop sander bit the dust in metal flames. I was so pissed off at the moron who did it, that i channeled my anger in making a new one. Only difference between mine and his, is that mine used rock sand paper (quartz particulate), much, much harsher. Alas, another idiot nearly scraped his finger off, and thus, the disc sander had to be dismantled as it was deemed "not safe".
That wasnt a good video for the do-it-yourselfer. More of a "look what i can do" video. Ur skilled thats no doubt but i just wasted 6minutes of my life.

You did a great job! Very good use for left over parts. I really enjoyed that!
Thanks a lot, I have, all the parts necessary to complete this project... I didn’t know where to begin... Now I know thanks again

+Willem Kossen Thank you.
Отлично! Мн понравилось. Надо повторить.
Excellent work! Where did you get the disk to shaft mounting plate shown at 4:25 in the video? Please advise. Thanks.
That is a plate of an old lathe.
nice work !nice music
Great. 4:49 what is this? ( foam??)
Ciao.. mi eri sfuggito..
molto molto intressante..
bravo 👏👏
Grazie.
Well done
any comments on where I can get emery cloth that big Canada ???
GROVEY MAN !
It looks like changing the abrasive disk would be a major hassle.
How long are they expected to last?
Hi there from Portugal,
Nice ...
Thanks(Obrigado)
Nice work i like it please a band saw !!!
Great result but many details needed by prospective DIY builders not provided.
How are the discs attached to the drive shafts?
How did you achieve a low 0.01 mm run out?
Why the serpentine belt running with grooves outermost?
What is the RPM of the discs?
Where did you buy that large sandpaper? Thanks
I have been wanting a nice disc sander but now I might just make my own! What kind of glue did you use to put the sandpaper on the wheel?
+Mike Rice alcohol glue or contact glue. You have to be careful with the calibration of the wheels, because if it gets badly, the vibrations are unbearable
+From The Wood thanks a lot!
Mike Rice
Welcome to Autozone. What can I get for you?
I need a serpentine belt.
What's it for?
A disk sander.
O.o
"Sir, what's the year, make, and model of that disc sander?"
@ From the Wood - Where did you get the metal plate that we see at 4:17? Thanks!
It is a faceplate. I get it from an old lathe.
proficional o trabalho 👍
big sander !!
Hi Sir! Thank You for sharing, disc sander self adhesive, right? why you use glue? and what type glue you used? Thank You.
+Hobi Kayu - DIY Woodworking Hobby No, it is not self adhesive. That's why I use glue. Contact glue. Thank you.
Vi varios projetos ,mas este é um showwww
This is AGENT Matt Helm come in over.
very good
muito bom
recomendo
Great disc sander but with all that glue how do you change sand discs? :)
A heat gun would unstick the glue

Fantástico, parabéns!
Why did you choose to serpentine the belt instead of direct pulley or step pulley?
How to change the sand paper? It glued, why dont use velcro instead?
when the sandpaper wears how do you replace it??
build a new machine
you can rip it off, peel off the glue he used to stick it on there (it peels off really easily) and stick a new disk on it
darn good
Hi where did you get the metal disk from to which you attached the wooden sanding disk.
+Rob Whitelaw hardware store.
Scher schön!!!
This video inspired me to make my own disc sander. I made it lately and now im wondering where to get a piece of sanding paper. May i ask you where you got such a big piece? maybe somwhere online? Thanks alot!
No, it is not online. I am from Portugal and we can buy here: www.indasa-abrasives.com/pt/en/
where can I get one of the black disk you attached the big plate to the rotor rod
que vas a lijar con semejante máquina!!!!
Iroko Natura
I love the music
Good music and great editing. Very enjoyable. My heart stopped when I saw you line the paper up with the disc. I have seen disasters with contact adhesive. What glue did you use?
Contact glue or alcohol glue. I dont know the correct name in english. Thank you for your words.
Am I expressing ignorance by asking how would you conveniently change the sanding disk?
How often would it need to be changed on average?
What about a Velcro style of attachment?
Are these discs not available that you had to cut and glue
Yes
Gread job
What did you cut the green 20" disc backer from?
+Kevin Hanes MDF
Where did you find the sandpaper?
In a litle store in Portugal
Nice job
Please what is the name of the music
What kind of table saw is that
Electra Beckum

My engine is 3200 rpm, but I reduced to half the disk speed with two pulleys. one is half of another.
Very nice job, when you used that colored mdf the first thing i thought was you are probably from Portugal. What RPM does your sander run at?
About 1000 rpm

Cool! Why do you need the extra pullys? Is it because your drive-belt was too long? I don't get it.
Yes it is. Thanks
i put an extra one in most of my mechanical pieces, often with a spring, to tension whatever i'm using for a belt.
Awesome job. May I know the music name too? Thanks
Good day!
Tell me what is the allowable rpm of the machine with this disk diameter?
In other words, how can the revs HIGH?
Regards
is this parkside drill ?
What do you think about this
thank you :)
It is ok. Nothing special.
MUY LINDO, MAEASTRO

An excellent project but a useless video for someone that wanted to build the same. You go into no detail on the important bits and waste half of the video in planing and cutting wood to make the table. Thanks for the effort though.
It's simple. Just go to INPLIX page and make it yourself.
You're not normal, to do this you use 10 different professional machines that hardly anyone of us amateurs has, really helping us
At least it is a useful/usable machine as opposed to clumsy "machines" churned out daily on youtube with not much use other than clickbait for views... THOSE are waste of time!
You need a cartload of equipment to make a poor man's disc sander.
Well the $500-$700 you save on the sander can buy quite a bit of stuff...
jon Q $500-$700 won't even pay for that lathe.

That wasnt a good video for the do-it-yourselfer. More of a "look what i can do" video. Ur skilled thats no doubt but i just wasted 6minutes of my life.
