Nice and simple. Great video. Its amazing how complex many people try to make language learning, when it really is down to immersion and input. Of course when you dive into the literature, there are plenty of complexities in how to do it optimally (I've become a fan of chorusing as a technique to improve listening), but there is really only one route to learning languages well, and thats lots of reading and listening to appropriate content. But you can't make as much money from that as you can from selling hacks and apps and textbooks.
Cheers Philip! Yeah, not as glamorous but for anyone who hasn’t successfully made progress we can list after the promises of new apps or books. The secret is actually quite boring: comprehensible input, keep going
Oi, you forgot the camera outside! You are good at making the videos engaging, I must say. Going for a walk, playing with your dog, casually assembling IKEA furniture… 😆It's a nice breath of fresh air!
damn bro... you're right. I've been struggling with korean for 2 years now. I have a hard time sticking to things, content is boring and i get frustrated. I even know how to learn languages, i've learned 4 others before korean, but because of how hard it is i've kinda been giving up a lot. This video really hit home thanks
My man! That's exactly why I made it. Honestly, just stay consistent. All the research says that keep feeding your brain the language using comprehensible input and you'll get there. I wish I did it earlier with Chinese but that's life. Pick something small and do it daily. See what happens!
@@matt_brooks-green yeah. Hard to find easy resources, but its getting there 💪 Greetings from Argentina, I'm quite impressed with how well you understand Spanish. If you ever want to practice a different Spanish flavor let me know!
I am not struggling with Chinese but I am struggling with English listening. I’ve been studying English for more than 30 years and a lot of parts are still missing when I listen. Really hope a break through 😅.
i am depressed right now and i feel like i am going to give up learning this language. i just recently started learning german. its been a month now and i feel like i am not improving. i am getting frustrated and angry at myself thinking i am slow and dumb.... but listening to your video made me feel a little bit okay. i was about to give up, i really do, but i dont want to lose my progress so i wavered back and forth.... i decided to trust in the process and be consistent. thank you
You can do this. If you're feeling overwhelmed ease off a bit and maybe even take a break for a week if you need to recharge. Find things that interest you if you can - like TH-cam videos or a podcast. When you can find something where you forget it's in your target language it's like the cheat code to all of this. Good luck!
I used to try learning languages by learning one word at a time with text flashcards, and I didn't get anywhere. When I switched to learning sentences / words in context, the difference was incredible. I also listen more now. Some methods are better than others, but you still have to put in the time. It can still be hard to find material for some languages though.
Hi Matt, Im not sure if you might be able to help me with this language but I am trying to learn Assyrian. Unfortunately there is not much out there in terms of comprehensible input apart from maybe some songs. Any advice for those struggling with the more obscure languages? Thank you very much
That’s a tough one. If it were me I would search high and low for comprehensible input resources. If that doesn’t yield results start with a teacher using crosstalk. Maybe see if there are any children’s series you can stomach (many swear by peppa pig but probably too obscure). Watch them a lot and listen to the audio for them when you are out and about. Failing that I would rely on reading and start with beginner dialogues. Personally crosstalk with an online tutor or a language exchange is your best option I would have thought
It's like you know me...switching from process to process because I'm not sure if it's me or the method I'm trying. I'll be the first in line to do the Matrix option when it's done. I'll pay a couple grand to get my TL uploaded and call it a day. Who's working on that and when will that come out?

Great! I tried sentence mining but found reading more enjoyable to graded readers were the answer for my struggles in chinese
@@matt_brooks-green I also prefer consuming content, if I can find easy enough content.
when did you start to learn chinese?
My first dabbles started in 2007 😬
@@matt_brooks-green holy cow, you must be a grandmaster then 😇太厉害了吧
