This laptop is for school kids. Other than doing homework and watching youtube they can play some less demanding games like Dota 2, minecraft, csgo, TF2, Overwatch, WoW, Diablo 3, Rocket League and so on. Its fine for what it is.
Hey man, I have a gaming PC in which I play everything I like to. I have a 5-year-old laptop that desperately needs to be replaced. I need it for normal use (university stuff), but since I travel somewhat frequently, I'd also like to game on it (99% of the time League of Legends and Diablo 3). I don't mind playing on low settings, or even lower than 1080p, I really just need a laptop good to game comfortably whenever I can't play on my gaming pc. It has to be a good laptop though, with minimum 8gb of RAM. Can you recommend any? Is this one on the video enough? I think diablo 3 is a pretty demanding game, more than overwatch, and I really dont wanna dip below 60 fps. Thanks

my childhood laptop was this exact chassis just with older specs (I think it was from around 2013 or 14) and so I still come back to this video sometimes just for that nostalgia. Although I'm definitely happier now with my actual gaming PC I still miss the simpler days of being a kid with this laptop and being a wizard101 and club penguin gamer ;)

laptop's 2800mah battery is not the same as smartphone's 2800mah, need to look at the watt-hour to find out the actual battery size that can compare with each other.

Austin, I bought a 380$ acer laptop from newegg that rocks an i5 6200u, 8gb of ram, and a 940mx nvidia gpu. It also has a 1080p screen with amazing viewing angles. I think you chose a pretty bad laptop for this price range. Please do research next time, please...

I have the same PC, but with a dual core i5 and Nvidia 840m. It's over two years old at this point, but it still holds up great as I have swapped out the SSHD with an SSD. Mine has a 1080p screen which is a lot better than a lower resolution panel. The keyboard is nice and the trackpad is smooth and accurate. It looks nice but will attract finger prints and scratches. I wish it had an IPS panel and a backlit keyboard, but I'm very happy with my purchase, and hopefully, it will last for a few more years. I use mine for gaming (CSGO, Euro Truck, etc) and video/photo editing in Photoshop and Premiere.

I think the target demographic with this cheap of a laptop for gaming with classic stuff like vga is meant for a gamer with a desktop at home, but may want to bring it on a trip with them and play some games in the hotel room. @0:50 No they don't. Because this one has 2,8 Ah at 11 Volt (probably), while Smartphones usually have around 3-4 Volt. So this battery remains 2-3 times larger regardless.
Actually this laptop makes a lot of sense, because it can run old games really well. For example, the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 isn't that demanding, but if you had it on disk, you can't really run it on most modern PCs. But, with this laptop you can play old games, including any disk games you have, at high settings on the go. Also, all the extra ports make this a perfect modern laptop designed to be compatible with older systems. Once this thing goes down a little more in price, I'd be tempted to buy it or a laptop with a similar design.
VGA port and DVD drive are for students. Specially those who can't afford to have both a laptop and a desktop computer and still want to get connected to projectors and run school media on their laptops without dongles.
my budget laptop is a Aspire E 15. it was $500 and has a i5-6200U and a Geforce 940M with 8 GBs of Ram. I can play a lot of good games no problem at 60 FPS at 1366x768. it will go down to about 30-40 FPS when I put the games at 1920x1080 but it doesn't bother me when my games are not at 60 FPS constintly. I grew up with a computer that played most games at 7-15 FPS so I'm used to it lol.
To answer your question, probably not for myself. I think that would make an excellent first laptop for a kid though. Especially at that price range. The fact that it'll play games at reasonable framerates is just the icing on the cake. The point being that if it does get broken, we as parents, won't be out that much money as compared to one of the new Razer or MSI offerings. For that purpose I think it's totally worth it. Personally I have an older MSI GT70 which still works fine. It may only be 1080p but it will absolutely handle SkyrimSE with all settings maxed an still stay above 45fps which in my opinion is totally playable. Thanks for sharing this. I'm actually seriously thinking of getting one for my son now.
In fact i actually bought it for less than 400$ and it's gonna be a good upgrade since my actual laptop is an Acer Aspire 5732z it was released back 11 years ago and it still works fine for seeing videos at 720p, I used it to run oldschool games at the lowest settings possible with the lowest frames possible, but it handled well those years, now its time to jubilate him! my laptop I used for "gaming" was a AMD A8 Apu acer, it kicked so much ass for gaming when I was younger TF2, a bit of skyrim,and some Tera online. it wasnt the greatest but worked so well for me.

Get an acer aspire e15 e5-575-33bm its 350$ and it has integrated intel hd 620 graphics which isnt bad , Also it can run cs:go (max) at around 40-70fps!
Assuming you are buying the laptop for school as well, I would just recommend buying a Chromebook or inexpensive (non-gaming) Windows computer, and like Cathal said, build a PC, using the rest of your budget.

My mom bought this for me for christmas. Its quite good so far, i have a large range of games ranging from minecraft to CSGO to Fortnite. It does struggle with fortnite even at the lowest settings. But CSGO runs at a smooth 30-40 fps on some of the high settings... So pretty good for a budget laptop
I have what looks like the older version of this laptop (Lenovo Z510). Has almost the same body, specs, and features (like the disc drive) I think the whole battery thing is because the old laptop batteries died with in a year, and you'd have to purchase an after market battery.

I own this laptop and got it on sale last year, it can run tons of games at high and medium settings, it has a hard time running AAA titles like battlefield 1 and Just cause 3. I really like this laptop because of how cheap it was, i only paid about 200 for it and everything it can run is amazing especially for the price, i get about 90 to 120fps on csgo at medium settings 60-90 on max just depends on maps and how much is going on around me

My girlfriend has a lenovo laptop similar to this (exactly the same design) with a core i3 4xxxU and 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD together with a dvd drive. for around the same price back in 2013.
Well I had a 6th gen AMD APU and it had a small battery with a TDP of 15W. It played games pretty ok but it had power throttling when both the CPU and GPU were tasked
The only games I really play are GMod, Sims, Hearthstone and World of Warcraft. This allows me to have a small budget when coming to PCs. I also picked my i5 6600k, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 2TB HDD an Nivida Geforce GTX 1050 2GB for only 250 quid.
One thing you should know about the feature of it. You can activate the dual graphics technology on the panel of AMD catalyst control center once you activated it you'll recognize some improvements on the fps. Note that some games doesn't support the feature. I've recognize some improvements on the performance. Ex: (Witcher 3 from 15fps to 20-25 on low quality) My Specs: - AMD A10 7300 Radeon r6 4C+6GPU - Radeon R6 M255dx 2G - 8GB Ram

I have the same PC, but with a dual core i5 and Nvidia 840m. It's over two years old at this point, but it still holds up great as I have swapped out the SSHD with an SSD. Mine has a 1080p screen which is a lot better than a lower resolution panel. The keyboard is nice and the trackpad is smooth and accurate. It looks nice but will attract finger prints and scratches. I wish it had an IPS panel and a backlit keyboard, but I'm very happy with my purchase, and hopefully, it will last for a few more years. I use mine for gaming (CSGO, Euro Truck, etc) and video/photo editing in Photoshop and Premiere.
yes, especially as a travel fifa or tf2 machine. I think the target demographic with this cheap of a laptop for gaming with classic stuff like vga is meant for a gamer with a desktop at home, but may want to bring it on a trip with them and play some games in the hotel room. Actually this laptop makes a lot of sense, because it can run old games really well. For example, the original Star Wars Battlefront 2 isn't that demanding, but if you had it on disk, you can't really run it on most modern PCs. But, with this laptop you can play old games, including any disk games you have, at high settings on the go. Also, all the extra ports make this a perfect modern laptop designed to be compatible with older systems. Once this thing goes down a little more in price, I'd be tempted to buy it or a laptop with a similar design.

my budget laptop is a Aspire E 15. it was $500 and has a i5-6200U and a Geforce 940M with 8 GBs of Ram. I can play a lot of good games no problem at 60 FPS at 1366x768. it will go down to about 30-40 FPS when I put the games at 1920x1080 but it doesn't bother me when my games are not at 60 FPS constintly. I grew up with a computer that played most games at 7-15 FPS so I'm used to it lol.

To answer your question, probably not for myself. I think that would make an excellent first laptop for a kid though. Especially at that price range. The fact that it'll play games at reasonable framerates is just the icing on the cake. The point being that if it does get broken, we as parents, won't be out that much money as compared to one of the new Razer or MSI offerings. For that purpose I think it's totally worth it. Personally I have an older MSI GT70 which still works fine. It may only be 1080p but it will absolutely handle SkyrimSE with all settings maxed an still stay above 45fps which in my opinion is totally playable. Thanks for sharing this. I'm actually seriously thinking of getting one for my son now.

In fact i actually bought it for less than 400$ and it's gonna be a good upgrade since my actual laptop is an Acer Aspire 5732z it was released back 11 years ago and it still works fine for seeing videos at 720p, I used it to run oldschool games at the lowest settings possible with the lowest frames possible, but it handled well those years, now its time to jubilate him! My mom bought this for me for christmas. Its quite good so far, i have a large range of games ranging from minecraft to CSGO to Fortnite. It does struggle with fortnite even at the lowest settings. But CSGO runs at a smooth 30-40 fps on some of the high settings... So pretty good for a budget laptop

I have what looks like the older version of this laptop (Lenovo Z510). Has almost the same body, specs, and features (like the disc drive) I think the whole battery thing is because the old laptop batteries died with in a year, and you'd have to purchase an after market battery.

Help! Whenever I press “q” on my laptop keyboard, it always turns the cursor red and back to normal again if pressed again. The problem I have is that I can’t use the Q key.
I own this laptop and got it on sale last year, it can run tons of games at high and medium settings, it has a hard time running AAA titles like battlefield 1 and Just cause 3. I really like this laptop because of how cheap it was, i only paid about 200 for it and everything it can run is amazing especially for the price, i get about 90 to 120fps on csgo at medium settings 60-90 on max just depends on maps and how much is going on around me

My girlfriend has a lenovo laptop similar to this (exactly the same design) with a core i3 4xxxU and 4GB RAM and 500GB HDD together with a dvd drive. for around the same price back in 2013.
Well I had a 6th gen AMD APU and it had a small battery with a TDP of 15W. It played games pretty ok but it had power throttling when both the CPU and GPU were tasked
The only games I really play are GMod, Sims, Hearthstone and World of Warcraft. This allows me to have a small budget when coming to PCs. I also picked my i5 6600k, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 2TB HDD an Nivida Geforce GTX 1050 2GB for only 250 quid.
I’ve had this since 2015 but the intel core i7 and the nvidia 840m edition. Very solid.
One thing you should know about the feature of it. You can activate the dual graphics technology on the panel of AMD catalyst control center once you activated it you'll recognize some improvements on the fps. Note that some games doesn't support the feature. I've recognize some improvements on the performance. Ex: (Witcher 3 from 15fps to 20-25 on low quality)
