Flaky limestone walls - thanks to cement!

  • A common problem with limestone walls is flaking. Many walls become powdery and dusty.
    The cause of this can be traced to wrong products used when either building the wall, or more often than not, 'restoring' it.
    We 'did up' the wall 16 years ago and now need to take out the cement mortar that was used and replace with lime mortar.
    Another problem, though some may disagree, is the damp proof course in a part of the wall was bypassed when we laid down new tiles.
    However some people consider rising damp a myth. Please feel free to post your views.
