  • Do you wonder if you can use Procreate for professional work? Last October, the City of Madrid commissioned me to create the official illustration for the 2021 Madrid Navidad (Christmas) Campaign. The illustration was entirely done using Procreate and was printed on big-size billboards, posters all over the city during December last year. In this video, I will tell a bit about the story behind that illustration, show you guys how I set up my canvas in Procreate on my iPad Pro, the DPI I use, and the drafts I made for the campaign.

    Hi Asia! Great video on using Procreate for large format illustrations. I recently did a video myself on the topic, but doing more of a comparison between how big you can go in Procreate vs Photoshop. I like that yours is more about the story of an actual illustration. I will definitely be sending people who ask about this subject to your video :)

    Asia - great video - I use Procreate and Photoshop - what did you do in Photoshop for the client prep to get it to high resolution - are you able to simply increase the Procreate 150 dpi resolution to say 300 ? and how do you do that ? could you do a follow on video or similar on converting a low dpi 150 in Procreate and upscaling it ? that would be so helpful :)

    • @AsiaOrlando
      @AsiaOrlando  ปีที่แล้ว

      Scaling from 150 dpi to 300 is not something possible that I'm aware of, as you would be adding more dpis, more "pixels" to the same space. What you can do is to go from 300 dpi to 150 dpi when increasing size for example, which is normal. Bigger pints do not require so much ppi so there's less visual quality lost ...

    Hi, Asia! Congratulations on this great project! BeautifuI art as always! I love watching your videos, great tips and stunning illustrations! I've always wondered, how do you export big files from procreate to psd and bring them to PC? I'm working with canvas approximately 210×297 mm with 600 dpi resolution, the files are about 500 mb. Saving finished pieces to Google Drive takes hours and when I download them to my computer (windows) afterwards the files turn out to be broken and Photoshop doesn't open them. You're working with big formats, perhaps, you have faced the same problem? If so, what method are you personally using to bring your files to PC, if it's not a secret? I'm thinking of buying a lightning USB connector, but not quite sure if it'll work in my case.

    • @AsiaOrlando
      @AsiaOrlando  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Helen how are you, thank you so much! Not a secret at all :) I use my Samsung SSD drive when I have to move larger files, and it’s just a few second :) and never issues with loosing data or corruption 👍🏼 hope it helps

      Can I ask why you are doing it at 600 DPI at that size? Usually 300 DPI would be fine for a 210x297mm size. Unless eventually you are going to print the artworks at a bigger size? It also is about the viewing distance. So if people are going to see something in a big billboard they will never be close to the item to see all the fine details so you can get away with less of a DPI like in Asia's example 150 DPI.

    Hi Asia, if it’s not a commercial secret, how do you control 100% resolution/look of the illustration, to be sure that it’s not pixelated?

    • @AsiaOrlando
      @AsiaOrlando  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Roger, it’s not a commercial secret⚡️the answers it’s in the video. Use the higher DPI possible, and 1.1 scale and loss of quality won’t be an issue 👍🏼

    • @Ron-vz1mp
      @Ron-vz1mp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AsiaOrlando thank you for response, but where did you found 1:1 scale function? Official developers team don’t think that it is important feature. Clip Studio Paint and Photoshop have 100% resolution view feature. But in Procreate it is a problem. There is a standard 300 DPI for printing. And “finding maximum dpi” always is a balance between software features and hardware possibilities. So this is not the way to work. That’s why I don’t understand why Procreate is such popular in comparing to other programs and wonder how people work with this software professionally.

    • @AsiaOrlando
      @AsiaOrlando  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For 1:1 scale you just create the canvas with the exact measurements as the final art, so it’s fairly easy. And DPI for printing is relative to the size. For example most billboards use lower resolutions and PPI instead of hi-DPI count. Procreate is just perfect for everything, that’s why so popular :) it’s not buggy, it’s intuitive, it’s professional quality and accessible to most without a huge cost barrier 👍🏼

    • @Ron-vz1mp
      @Ron-vz1mp 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AsiaOrlando understand. Thank you. I highly recommend you to try Clip Studio Paint. This is the program, that Japanese people use for their manga and anime. It looks much more powerful than procreate. And, at the same time, it needs less hardware resources. Raster and vector graphics, official assets like brushes and materials from marketplaces, also a lot of free staff and everything allowed for commercial use. And you will be not limited with a few layers like in procreate.
