    I understand all this already so I personally am not confused by your video, but others might be. The question asked was why do you set yours to be 72dpi, and by the end you explained why you would choose 150dpi. You didn’t actually address why your canvas at the beginning of the video was 72dpi.

      If you are viewing something from father away all the time. You can set the dpi lower. But if you'll be viewing the art piece close up. 150 to 300 is best.

      DPI is only relevant when considering the final out size (DPI on its own is meaningless). Mosty important is the pixel dimensions. More pixels = more detail. For printing, 220-240 DPI can be used to determine the maximum printed size. 150 DPI quoted in the video is too low, IMO.

    Thank you so much!! I was struggling with getting the correct canvas size and was having issues with the sizing when I uploaded the file to a poster template (size 24x36") for printing. I had the incorrect size and when I uploaded it to the poster template, the file would not fill up the whole 24x36" and left a 2" gap at the top and bottom. After watching your video I was quickly able to adjust my canvas size and upload it to the poster template without the pesky blank gaps at the top and bottom of the poster. Thank you so much for helping!

    i have the slightly smaller model ipad than yours. if i was to set my canvas to (as your example) 841 x 1189 mm i'd get less dpi. would say 72 dpi make a good poster at that size still, or does the dpi really matter? still tricky to comprehend this!

      This will be reflected on your physical size. The max for print will be 42cm * 60cm based on your dpi settings, if you changed it to 150dpi you will be able to print at the A0 size which is 84cm * 118cm at half the quality.

      I always go to Photoshop to enhance the picture. I change the levels of the illustration, because in print they always turn out darker. I also flatten the png, because when you export from Procreate, it also comes with an alpha channel that increases the size of your file.

    Hey Stayf, I’m trying to use Procreate on my iPad to make designs for Redbubble, but they say on Redbubble that you’re supposed to create artwork using the CMYK color space and then convert it to sRGB just before exporting to the site. Procreate only lets you use sRGB or P3 Wide Color for color space options, and I’m not sure what the best route to take here is. Do you just create your Redbubble art in sRGB and upload it to the site without converting it to a different color space at all? I’ve heard P3 Wide color is better for printing than sRGB but I don’t know if it’s best to use P3 for Redbubble.

    Hi Stayf! I wish you can give some advice. I have my art work done in procreate with hand lettering drawn on it. The original artwork is done on an A4 canvas at 300dpi.
    I would like to get it printed at A2 and AO size? Do you recommend resizing the canvas and resampling it Or should I create a new canvas? What should I set it up as? Would really appreciate your help. My main concern was the hand lettering getting pixelated 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, you can at most upscale to A3 size, because with digital prints you can use 150 dpi. If you go above that you will get pixelation. Especially in lettering. I am afraid you have to redo your drawing to get it at A2 or A0 size. Try and get the biggest canvas possible in Procreate.

    Hi Stayf. Thanks for elaborating on the size and resolution issues in Procreate. I was wondering if there is also technology available that allows one to print at really large sizes without compromising the resolution. For example, how do billboards get printer? I imagine the artwork is done at a much smalller size and then proportionally scaled up. I'm curious as to how this works as I've always thought scaling up decreases resolution.
    Thanks.

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Maria, great question. With Adobe Photoshop you can now double the size of an image without pixelation. Bilboards are printed with a smaller ppi. They are always further away, so you won't see the big rasters. It depends on what kind of iPad you have. An iPad Pro 12.9 inch can handle larger file sizes. Unfortunately there is no way around it. Procreate has a limit to the file sizes. Their priority is that the app does not crash at bigger file sizes.

      For print you need 300 dpi.(Dots per Inch) Make a canvas of 50cm x70 cm and set the Dpi to 300. Then you will have only 6 layers to work with. The minimum Dpi for digital print is 150. Then you will have 39 layers to work with.

    The reason of such good quality of your prints is that your real ppi is not 72, but 150 pixels.
    Look, real size of your canvas are much more bigger than A0. Physical dimensions in procreate is 1764 x 2505 mm and real A0 size is 841 x 1189 mm. It's almost twice smaller than size you put in procreate. So, if we will scale down your canvas to real A0 size we will get 150 ppi, not 72.
    I do not know if I explained well. I'm working with prints too, so I've test it a lot with help of Photoshop canvas properties to to understand it correctly.

    • @StayfDraws
      @StayfDraws  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Marjetka, you first need to find out what 4:3 jumbo poster is in inches or centimeters. There is a limit to the size of the canvas you can make in Procreate. With an iPad Pro 12.9 inch the biggest canvas is 7000 x 5000 pixels.

      If you want clear and crisp lines it is better to use a vector app. Procreate is a pixel app. The bigger the size of the canvas the less layers you can work in. Just use the A4 size with 300 dpi, it still has 57 layers to work with.

      first you save your finished artwork in to your gallery. Then create a new file at the dimensions and resolution you need, then import your image from your gallery and resize it with the arrow tool. (this is just my guess and have not tried it out).

    Hi Steyf!
    Just to be clear...
    If you want to create a canvas suitable for printing in A0 at 300Dpi It MUST be 9933 x 14043 pixels.
    Not 5000 x 7100.
    Clearly I guess that you use that "limited resolution" in order to have 11 Layers in Procreate.
    But using the resolution of 5000x7100 you can ONLY print at 150 dpi, not 300, if you want to print and A0 poster.

      Hi! Can iPad Air 3 export 300dpi from Procreate?

    • @FirstUPdaGREAT
      @FirstUPdaGREAT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thư Thư I measure mine in inches. What I do, is I put in the inches I want my canvas to be, and then, I play with the dpi to determine how many layers I decide I want to have.
      Example, my iPad Air 3 - 30” x 40” at 200dpi will get me 1 layer. If I drop the dpi to 150 it will give me 5 layers.
      IF, you NEED 300dpi, just make your canvas smaller. Just play with the inches, or whatever you use to measure your canvas and see how many layers you want to have.

      A2 formaat is 420 x 594 mm. Vul dit in als je een nieuw canvas maakt en vul bij dpi 300 in. Dan heb je een canvas op A2 formaat dat geschikt is voor print. Als je klaar bent met de tekening sla het dan op als een TIFF, dit is het beste formaat voor print.

      I imported it into Photoshop to first change the color mode from RGB to CMYK. You can not do that in Procreate. Secondly I also had to place some text on the poster. That is something you can't do with Procreate either. You can send it to to the printer as is, but then you need to make a canvas in the right physical size and dpi.Some print services won't except files in RGB.
