Thanks! I appreciate you talking potters/viewers through the good and the bad of a pottery business. I'm not ready to hang my shingle just yet, but you're giving me more to think about. I appreciate all that you are doing. Have a very Merry Christmas!
Wow! Thanks for the super!! It's definitely a lot to consider, turning something you love into a business isn't always the best path. Merry Christmas to you too!
Sarah it was a excellent video glad you shared your expert knowledge. It’s amazing all the things we need to be as artists, business owners and so mush more. You answer alot of ? And that is super helpful for people thinking about a Etsy shop thank you so much and Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
@ question: so you make one listing per object vs variations in one object? I’ve mostly been doing the latter, but the variations are pretty different and am thinking of doing one object:one listing.
Thank you so so much for your video, I'm right now in the stage of deciding to sell on etsy or creating my own website. I think etsy will be best to start for me😊...I'm right now in the middle of your video, have to finish it later (going to work), idk if you adresse this 2 question I have later on in your video. Is it easy to get all information for the taxes on etsy? I mean every state has different amounts to tax, does etsy calculate that ( I just afraid to get in trouble 😅) . And last question, do we need insurance as potter's? I mean what could possibly happen to a costumer with my pottery right?! Idk I'm just a over thinker 🤦♀️. Anyway thank you so much for sharing, merry Christmas 🎄🤗
Merry Christmas to you too! As to your questions, Yes, I feel like Etsy does make it easy to do your taxes. They have export features that link directly with tax software, so I have mine set up to go into my small business accounting software (I just use quickbooks). Etsy also makes it really easy to see your expense totals in the different categories, shipping, advertising, etc. SO I am not a tax professional and am only speaking to what I do, so you'll want to check with your own tax person. I do my own taxes, I currently just operate as a sole proprietor, and I do a schedule c right along with my normal 1040 form. I do pay quarterly taxes, and if you have something like quickbooks it will help you estimate that. Basically, if you get to the point you're making more than 5k, start paying in some. I do have business insurance, mostly for my photography business because hotels require it. It was a simple thing for me to add the pottery. I think for insurance, i read recently about someone getting sued for using the word "smiley". So possibly the risk of copyright infringement.
@threelittlepotters thank you so so much for taking your time to respond in such detail, you are amazing 🤗 I will definitely get a insurance 👀 never know with some people 😅. I will definitely talk to a tax professional....thank you again
