    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching. What combines did you use on the farm ? I like to find classics still at work when ever I can.

    • @okiecubsfan1961
      @okiecubsfan1961 ปีที่แล้ว

      @bigtractorpower we used old 95 John deeres. Last time my husband and I helped with harvest was in 1991. My dad finally retired last year and sold all of his equipment. The combines sat out behind the barn with trees growing up in them. Sometimes the air conditioning worked and sometimes it didn't. As a kid, I drove the tractor and then as an adult drove the trucks to the elevator. It was definitely a time to remember.

    Enjoyed them all, favorites would be IH, really like the 1480. Notice the large increase of horsepower, grain tank capacity, header lengths and while not stated, fuel consumption. These modern combines harvest a lot of acres per operation hour and use large amounts of fuel too, large costs of doing business!!

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The 1480 is a harder to find combine these days. 1460s and 1440s are easier to locate. I will have full 10 minute spec videos on each of these machines over the summer.

    Today the Claas, 1984, the 1480,. They are all good machines in the late model sense. 1980s and 1990s thiers lots of debate. If you don't want your dirt in the field use a John Deere, it'll be all over the machine. The rotaries usually all run cleaner. Great commentary with a lot of different machines. Just wondering at what point will equipment have to stop getting larger because they will no longer be able to transport it down the road.

    • @heatmoon
      @heatmoon ปีที่แล้ว

      I've wondered this too. Watching even 1 big combine harvesting high yield corn it seems to need lots of other expensive equipment like big grain carts and the high HP tractor needed to pull one of those. Growing up on a farm in the 80s we had 2 grain trucks and a gravity box and 1 Gleaner L2, which was optioned with a bigger diesel and could really move. We did 2000 acres more or less with just that. Trucks would be parked with 1 driver for both taking grain to bins or elevator. Long days, we also would run our grain dryer when needed. Time is money on farming but with equipment so expensive it's hard to imagine.

    Guys have bin having big issues with the x9’s up here in northern Saskatchewan. Plugging the backend of the combine when the straw is tuff. And it is literally just the x9’s. The s790 and nh 9090’s in the same field didn’t plug once while the x9 plugged the back 3 times. We’re not the only people with the same problem in the area.

    I notice that some of the combines are cutting close to the ground. While this is sometimes necessary if the crop has started to fall over it was not always the case. I then noticed that the straw was being discharged in a single windrow. I assume this is because the farm bales the straw.

    • @bigtractorpower
      @bigtractorpower  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the Challenger 560C and the Deere 4425 were windrowing the straw to have it baled. Farms that bale often cut close to the ground to create more tonnage.

    How can the gleaner combine have 375 hp and hold 390 bushels and the jd is x9 top of the line 690 hp and 460 bushels look at all that wastes fuel you burn for 70 more bushels

    • @chuckrobinson6244

      The X9 is running 5.5 mph with a 50ft head in 95 bu wheat. The S97 is running a 40ft head in 95 bu. Wheat at 3 mph. Both are good combines. The X9 is simply built to run faster and wider. In my opinion the S series Gleaners do the very best job on the market. The Gleaners only set back is it can not move the amount of grain a class 9 or 10 combine can per hour.
