That is a great lesson. In the past, I've always mixed those three verbs, thinking that they have the same kind of function, especially 'would' and 'could'. The best thing I learn in this lesson is that "would, should, could" are modal verbs, which don't have past forms. Back in the days when I learned English at school in my country, "would and could" were kind of mistaken as the past forms of "will and can," and that made it really confusing with the idea adding "have + P.P." to talk about the past. Thank you so much for pointing that out right at the beginning of this lesson!
It's a common point of confusion! The problem is that in some cases, 'could' and 'would' *are* the past forms of 'can' and 'will', but they're also full modals in their own right. Modals are complex, I think.

It's a conditional sentence , isn't it ? And also I've come across such a sentence which is "I wish I never met you" The act of meeting is in the past but why not "had never met" Could you explain why ? Thank you so much!
