I was born in 1987 and grew up watching Mary Poppins on VHS, but it wasn't until many years later, looking up the history of the film before Saving Mr. Banks was released, that I read about the real meaning of the song. The kite represents the family throughout the movie--a bit battered and torn in the beginning, not seen as very important by Mr. Banks, but he is the one who helps mend it back together in the end. And since then, I cry every time I hear this song. Wonderful!
actually i found out well it appeared she were u thinking he the PL is a stage name the author of the books uses or is shedding manly tear u being sarcastic and she actually rather enjoyed this song at least and before it appeared in the movie, yes i saw saving mr banks very good movie
its all good lols i just was wondering if u knew PL was a woman i mean i saw the movie and wikipedia her before really isnt her real name tooo, its Ellen.youtube is crazy was looking for a spoof for a song found one only it wasnt a spoof a knockoff just a bunch of im assuming bored idiots lip syncing to original song
it isn't I love hearing it. I love how everyone just starts singing because they all know it so well, from the older people in the crowd to the little toddlers, it's timeless
That is beautiful. I watched Mary Poppins for the first time just about a month ago. But I am deeply blown by how beautiful and joyful the film is. This singalong is amazing
So proud to have my daughter and son performing in this - the little blonde boy in the red jacket at the front. It was great fun to stage - thank you Disney!
This song from when it premiered back in 1964 to forever will bring smiles and joy in people...love this song and hope my children will enjoy it as much as I did when I grew up listening to it
The Sherman Brothers wrote many songs in their illustrious careers, but I don't think any have as much meaning, and ability to pull at the heartstrings as this one... no matter how many times you hear it, it gets to you, the tears well up, the foot taps.along, and it just brightens up your day... Name me one other song that can do that?
This is the world I want to see. One that lives in peace and happiness. This brings me to tears every time. Why can't the world look like this everywhere.
With tuppence for paper and strings You can have your own set of wings With your feet on the ground You're a bird in a flight With your fist holding tight To the string of your kite Oh, oh, oh! Let's go fly a kite Up to the highest height! Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring Up through the atmosphere Up where the air is clear Oh, let's go fly a kite! When you send it flyin' up there All at once you're lighter than air You can dance on the breeze Over 'ouses and trees With your first 'olding tight To the string of your kite Oh, oh, oh! Let's go fly a kite Up to the highest height! Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring Up through the atmosphere Up where the air is clear Oh, let's go fly a kite!
Winds in the east, mist coming in, like something is brewing, about to begin, can't put me finger on what lies in store, but I do know one thing that will always happen, Disney will forever long
And those were dad’s words. He, my uncle and Walt were kindred spirits. They fed and inspired and informed each other. That way the magic of the Disney/Sherman collaboration. Each brought something to the table and the symphony was exquisite.
It makes me so happy to actually see something like this, just to know that there are a lot more people who love and appreciate this movie as much as I do.
Actually the cool thing about this, is this many people actually (either) grew up on Mary Poppins or knew the songs through the years. When you hear something from your childhood, by some strange miracle, all the lyrics seem to return to your brain 20 years later :)
I wanted to hear him perform more of Chim Chim Cher-ee. It's no wonder why that song won an Oscar and a Grammy award for best song. It;s dripping with London.
I was 7 years old in 1965 when I first saw "Mary Poppins". I watched "Saving Mr. Banks" and had NO IDEA how the amount of work "NEEDED" to make the book into a "FANTASY "film and since I also speak Spanish( Latin American/Mex. version), French, Italian, Portuguese, German, some Dutch and a bit of the Scandinavian languages(Norwegian, Icelandic[which is just 8th century Norwegian], Swedish and a smattering of Danish, I've watched "Mary Poppins" in the forementioned languages and if one can sing-a-long with "Supercalifrajalisticexplialidocious", one can speak the language the song is in.IMO. :)
I always thought the last chorus line should have been - Up through the atmosphere, up now the clouds have cleared, let's go, fly... fly a kite. The clouds clearing suggesting new beginnings.
Today, we'll watch "Saving Mr. Banks" later today. And we realized, we both hadn't seen the movie "Mary Poppins" yet. We had to get it on Netflix. Sometimes we forget that we actually didn't grow up in the United States... Luv' this Sing along Flash Mob from London... Thanks to ***** for sharing this earlier today.
I have seen two other videos on you tube here with the same performance and I got to say it is interesting to see three different videos with the same exact performance all at a different angle.
This is just amazing! Nothing is better than Disney. It's magic. Oh, let's go fly a kite!!! :) I love when in the movie Pamela says "He fixes the kite, I love it!" Watch Saving Mr.Banks
Ohh ohh ohhhh lets go fly a kite up to the highest height lets go fly a kite and send it soaring up through the atmosphere up where the air is clear oh lets go fly a kite

Ralph Ritchie 100% true
Exactly!
Somewhere, P.L. Travers is watching this joyous moment and... sneering in disgust. *sheds manly tear*
actually i found out well it appeared she were u thinking he the PL is a stage name the author of the books uses or is shedding manly tear u being sarcastic and she actually rather enjoyed this song at least and before it appeared in the movie, yes i saw saving mr banks very good movie

I had rivers going down my face after 15 minutes or less would pass. Though it was an AMAZING movie!
I cried from the first minute to the ending credits and beyond.
I cried disney brings people in such a beautiful way .
I wonder if it's possible to hear this song and NOT smile?
... or cry.
Lallanzinho Costa I definitely cried. Like.. a lot.
Flood warning in New York
I don't think so. Every time I hear this song I smile!
it isn't I love hearing it. I love how everyone just starts singing because they all know it so well, from the older people in the crowd to the little toddlers, it's timeless
I sang along with them. It’s so moving ❤
I just noticed that I was singing along, smiling, and crying. Gosh I love this song! :3
That's just happened to me x')
Listening during the lockdown days, I hope we will again sing and rejoice like this ..... dancing like a kite.
I think WALT DISNEY would be proud and I'm sure that he was smiling when he saw that from up there !! ....
That is beautiful. I watched Mary Poppins for the first time just about a month ago.
But I am deeply blown by how beautiful and joyful the film is.
This singalong is amazing
This song can bright up anyone's day.🥰
If both the Shermans brothers could see this, I think it would make therm happy, indeed.
Seeing many people happy make me happy
I'm so dang proud to be connected to Mary Poppins. Grandpa, your legacy will live on forever thanks to this and many other amazing films.
Dallas McKennon.
Oh... the Irish Fox, the Merry-Go-Round Operator, a horse, and one of the penguins.
I wish I had his voice range, then again him imitating everything around him wasn't exactly my strong suit growing up.
So proud to have my daughter and son performing in this - the little blonde boy in the red jacket at the front. It was great fun to stage - thank you Disney!
Wish I had been there :( This song got me in tears at the end of Mary Poppins .

Feed the birds.
Now, THIS is how you advertise a film!
This is the world I want to keep living in.
Charming...!!! So sweet, in this wicked old World....
This is objectively the most wholesome video in the history of youtube. Whenever I'm sad I come here 💞
This is the world I want to see. One that lives in peace and happiness. This brings me to tears every time. Why can't the world look like this everywhere.
My school is doing this for our musical this year. It’s an honor to be in our most ambitious show yet! I also can’t wait for Mary Poppins Returns!

One of my favourite Disney songs of all time. Thank you so much for posting it. I've got tears running down my cheeks.
The guy with the broom was fun to watch....

Winds in the east, mist coming in, like something is brewing, about to begin, can't put me finger on what lies in store, but I do know one thing that will always happen, Disney will forever long

That's my boy, the blonde tart, so proud of him, Tom Bowen, now in mamma mia! He is going places!
I watch Saving Mr Banks and Mary Poppins. This films are fantastic. Songs are beautyful. I love films and song. Wow
I don't know why but every time I hear this song I smile and then about to cry.... :') what a wonderful song
The same happens to me every single time.
It makes me so happy to actually see something like this, just to know that there are a lot more people who love and appreciate this movie as much as I do.
I know a lot of people say ET or The Wizard of Oz is the best family film, but I'd say Mary Poppins is.
Actually the cool thing about this, is this many people actually (either) grew up on Mary Poppins or knew the songs through the years. When you hear something from your childhood, by some strange miracle, all the lyrics seem to return to your brain 20 years later :)
These things, these little flashes of beauty, still give me hope in humanity
This is the best thing I've ever seen.
Made my day just that tinier bit better! Thank you
Hearing this song really does make you feel like you can fly just by opening an umbrella ☂️🌂
If only there were more things like this!
I wanted to hear him perform more of Chim Chim Cher-ee. It's no wonder why that song won an Oscar and a Grammy award for best song. It;s dripping with London.

This is my favorite one. There is something so transcendentally cheerful about it.
I love when people do this... :D
wish i could ever live something even close to that!
I cried as a baby!
(P.S.: I'm only 12 years old and I love Mary Poppins!)
I love it when people get together like this
My mom would have loved this thank you 😌
If I was there I'd probably start tearing up! Wasn't expecting the umbrellas either, love it!
It's so wonderful wehen you are thinking about the scene in "Saving mister Banks". I had to cry when I saw the film...
Aww that was just beautiful!

This is absolutely amazing! One of my favorite songs.
This is so cool. Just a happy thing to do. I have great childhood memories of the movie and this song.
The man with broom is the best!
this is one of my favorite Disney songs
I always thought the last chorus line should have been - Up through the atmosphere, up now the clouds have cleared, let's go, fly... fly a kite. The clouds clearing suggesting new beginnings.
Smile and the world smiles with you
But fly a kite and I will join
Makes me think if only the world could be like this.
Why have I got tears in my eyes??
I wish somebody IDC WHO had a kite with them right there
The world needs much of this.
Makes me smile!!! So happy!
music brings people together.
Today, we'll watch "Saving Mr. Banks" later today. And we realized, we both hadn't seen the movie "Mary Poppins" yet. We had to get it on Netflix. Sometimes we forget that we actually didn't grow up in the United States...

Mary Poppins is one of my all-time favorites! Saving Mr. Banks is also very good :-)
It reminds me of being a boy, I love Mary poppins, this film is magical, it's a real one off.
Why are there no iconic songs like this anymore?
i used to watch this every night before bed. :,( the memories
A wonderful video all people sing together. Bravo😊
If it suddenly started raining at that very area, people would say it was David Tomlinson crying tears of happiness.
I have seen two other videos on you tube here with the same performance and I got to say it is interesting to see three different videos with the same exact performance all at a different angle.
Lol when i clicked this i was watching mary poppins and fly a kite was on XD
Why does stuff like this make me cry?
This makes me so happy...
I cry every time I watch this performance
Why doesn't this have more views!? This is wonderful!
This is something I miss from the pre-pandemic world. I doubt it'll ever happen again in our lifetime :( People have become wary of crowds...
This song has become a legacy. For generations, everyone will forever love this song
This is just amazing! Nothing is better than Disney. It's magic. Oh, let's go fly a kite!!! :) I love when in the movie Pamela says "He fixes the kite, I love it!" Watch Saving Mr.Banks
still awesome to watch this who can dislike this beyond me
this is my favourite thing on this planet
I love this song😭❤️😢
My mom is a Disney collector and for her birthday I got her a Mary Poppins Precious Moments snow globe that plays this song.
I bet more people know the words to this than to the national anthem.
Ohh ohh ohhhh lets go fly a kite up to the highest height lets go fly a kite and send it soaring up through the atmosphere up where the air is clear oh lets go fly a kite
How have I never seen this?!?!? It’s delightful!
Someone needs to do this song for America’s Got Talent!
Videos like this reminds me, there is still some good in this world....
See it doesn’t matter how old you are you can still be that innocent child even as an adult
This made me cry
and I sang along...... and for some reason with a tear in my eye.....?????
If you ever see me quiet you know exactly what I'm thinking
I cried so much with the film
Cool beans!! I hope everyone involved with the film sees this and smiles like everyone else.
