This is like watching brain Vs heart talking to each other. Their approach towards life is so different and that dichotomy emerging in their appreciation for each other even though they don't necessarily live like that is beautiful to watch!
If you can afford to quit your job: fine, go for it. But it's not all or nothing. For those people around here who can't just quit, who have caring responsibilities or who struggle with their health: you can also follow your passion at a slower pace. It's totally fine to take ten years to write your first book instead of two. The journey is so much more important than finally reaching the destination. In my experience, it's all about consistency, which also involves saying no to other things a hell lot of times, and not so much about speed. Also, you might want to consider that writing a book is a mentally straining process and it can actually be great to have some stability (e.g. by working a part-time job). Plus, it can make you so much more efficient if you only have a few hours a day or week to write. The important thing is to get started even if circumstances are not ideal and the plan is not all laid out and success by no means guaranteed. Enjoy the ride!
Ditto. I think if you quit your job to write a book, you would only be able to focus on trying to write something that would sell well. Whatever you wrote would probably suffer because of that impulse.
Deep Dive is probably, bang for your buck, the most valuable podcast in this genre at the moment. It differs from a lot of the others in that It doesn’t feel over saturated with a bunch of ‘experts’ all disagreeing with one another on the same topic to be controversial. These are just good quality inspirational guests who are telling their own proven success stories, for us to withdraw little nuggets of wisdom from. Great work. ☝️
Hmm, Sheehan gives me anxiety, actually. Wouldn't want to listen to him too much!! He's a bit immature still. And newly successful. Ali is definitely more mature and has always been upfront about wanting a lifestyle business. Soon Sheehan won't be able to stay up all night anymore and he will eventually get a calendar. Ali will schedule in friend time and relaxation time. Good times.

This guy is inspirational. It's refreshing to hear from someone like this. I've been trying to optimize my workflow lately, but in the end, it's all about passion and about just waking up and doing the thing you're passionate about. I spent 12 hours working on my photography today and it didn't feel like work at all. I don't know if I was productive or efficient, but it is the thing I want to do and want to put out into the world. That's what matters in the end.
Screw your routine, just get the thing done. Needed to hear this! Also love the reminder to set aside time for noticing and paying attention. Inspiration needs space to breathe.

For writers a lot of the time it's about the angle, the point of view...not the specific themes they write about. This was super inspiring, and must have been very eye opening for Ali Abdaal, because it's pretty much the opposite path to success. I have watched many interviews and yet this one stood out to me. I wasn’t sure why at first and after much thought I think these are the reasons: Most of the successful people who are featured in the interview are admirable for sure but seemed… overly polished and ‘glossy’. The way they present themselves verbally, physically. And yet Shen seemed very genuine, kind hearted and yet brilliant. Very humane. Secondly, his origin story represented how ordinary people like me can deeply relate. Many cultural references he used was very much connectable. I have listened to this very episode all the way through several times and thank you for being courageous on your own journey and sharing it so honestly.
This interview was delightful. The Cultural Tutor is an absolute gem. Refreshingly real. I loved the whole 2 hours! And Ali, you are an incredible interviewer. You let him get to the heart of his responses to your questions even when it took a bit of time without interrupting him. As I said, I loved this so much.

I've watched 4-5 of your interviews and it bothers me that you don't clarify what these guests are doing and make them successful. This guy writes online is not enough to mention, I want to know more facts. You dilute your very long interviews with lots of "bla bla" and after 30 minutes I have not understood anything at all about this person's profession and success. Do 15-20 min pods and talk about the most relevant.
