The greatest contribution of Mao, Chou, Deng and Xi is indeed governance, mastered by Xi and turned into a self-error correcting system that not only made Shenzen, Shanghai etc., into models of development not only in China but the whole world, envy of Trump. In the west Multi-party system fails to solve the gun problem, health care, polluting politics by the corporation, pharma crimes, legalizing drugs etc. One party system, that fell victim in USSR, became an evolutionary leap under Xi, leading to a new world order, saving the planet, providing safe food for all and above all equitable distribution of wealth, fighting imperialism and promoting globalization.
When one is wealthy and famous with power one does NOT feel arrogant by having an empathy with the poor in alleviating to a high level of better living. This is what President Xi Jin Ping ambition on its poverty alleviation of 800 millions citizens with a great shock to the World with true actions NOT only paper talks. 不是紙道談兵。 Moreover, in turning deserts into farmlands. That's really action for the people, of the people and by the people with Universal LOVE, NOT delusive, elusive and rhetoric speeches but empathy love of sharing and caring.
yeah but where's the communism? We need a reliable source of communist theory and practice. It's weird that the CPC doesn't support international socialism as the Soviets did
Michael Willman we Chinese doesn’t care about communism anymore. We are researching a more practical political system that can balance between development and distribution.
China's aim is to build socialism through controlled capitalist growth. Unlike the under Mao, when the state played a key role in the economy, the current Chinese model is based in Deng Xiaoping thought of encouraging capitalist growth under the control of the communist party, and Xi Jinping theory of the state being proactive in distributing wealth, tackling poverty and so on. The aim is to build a moderately prosperous society by 2021 (ie eradicate poverty) and a universally prosperous society by 2049 (by giving all Chinese citizens a decent quality of life).
Patrick Ellis yet the state does play a key role especially when it comes to restrictions on bourgeois freedoms. Dengism played a more dominant role in the 80s which lead to a crisis. The communists under Xi have done a lot to reverse the reintroduction of capitalism. They have and continue to wage a struggle against the bourgeoisie and the bourgeois elements of the state. Xi spoke openly of returning China to the principles of Marxism-Leninism during the Las convention. I don't disagree that there still is a capitalist economy with a bourgeoisie controlling a proportion of the means of production but that is less than 20% of economic activity. The silk road, the development of Africa, transforming deserts into forests, these successes are through the dictatorship of the proletariat. The interests of a bourgeoisie are not represented by Chinas economic policy and without a bourgeoisie there is no capitalism
Michael Willman I think the issue is that Socialism with Chinese Characteristics suffers from quite considerable ideological confusion. Although I agree the Xi is a more careful economic manager than Deng, Xi Jinping thought is still closely modelled on Deng Xiaoping thought at the moment. There isn't really a sturdy ideological basis or guiding principle, as party ideologues try to justify it through a socialist lens, capitalists try to justify it through a capitalist lens, and the President needs to accommodate both of these views. I don't think it's likely that we'll see any radical changes to the way the Chinese economy functions at least until 2049. Although a serious economic crash could escalate that.
Patrick Ellis I don't see China crashing soon but the west is right at the knives edge. A western capitalist collapse will force some changes. We can't expect things to remain the same. How China will respond I can't guess
This presenter explained everything very clear n easy to understand her English. .good job.
